Who is responsible for making Yasuo?!

Ben Sharpio··52 votes·5,511 views

I don't know if it's just me but he has to be one of the most annoying and unpleasant champions to lane against. He has been in nearly every game i've played (sometimes on both teams) and i have had to put up with his bullshit game.after.game.... The annoying part is, if you look at the games i've played, i have destroyed him in-lane every time i have gone up against him, yet by the end of the game you see him tower diving and 1 hitting everything while gliding in and out of your base. You set him behind and he just comes right fucking back! During the laning phase i find myself having to keep deactivating his bullshit shield that keeps reappearing every 5 seconds too. What can i do to stop this, seriously? He's played ALL the time. I keep destroying him in lane, i build extremely tanky, but he gets one tornado on 3 people, ults and 50 percent of my health is gone. Someone told me that his ult ignores a percentage of armour. How is this possible man?

As for the laning phase, he's painfully annoying. He's MANALESS... which mean's that he just spams all of his abilities. Tornado after tornado. It's getting ridiculous now. Every time i try to go to draft, people ban other champions over him. Why is he played so much and who is responsible for making these champions that drive people insane?!

What can i do to stop him from fucking every game up for me. I've lost so many games because of him, please stop saying he takes an immense amount of skill.

So you're telling me the same guy has been continually making broken, overloaded champions?

Darius is absolute hell to lane against, want some cs? Pulled, dunked, ignited, bleed ect Kalista just kites you to death Zed doesnt need an explanation Yasuo has already been given an explanation Thresh is on the same level as blitz, it's literally just keep trying to land your hook/pull AND THEN flay on top of that.

Ha, imagine Zyra with less mana costs, more damage, higher range, and her ultimate was noticeably larger and activated with a stun after the knockup.

Straight from the wikia:

"Skribbles was Zyra's first Creative Designer, CertainlyT was the final Designer, although Morello, Xypherous, and Coronach all had a piece of Zyra's development [1]."

CertainlyT had the final word on Zyra. Doesn't matter who started Zyra, CertainlyT ended it.

Because these champs are the only champions that are broken? Azir is permapicked mid Jinx has been nerfed since her release Ekko Don't even get me started on him at release RekSai Kit so overloaded she keeps being nerfed, and yet is still picked So no, It's just that newer champions get to have really powerful abilities.

Rew7112 votes

I feel bad for Azir, he's strong, but now... you have to main the guy to even know what you're doing.

Nameless Voice1 votes

You seem to be confusing badly-designed kits with overtuned numbers.

Jinx is an example of a champion who is overpowered but whose kit still feels fair despite it, because it has clear strengths and weaknesses built in. Almost on one complains about Jinx much, despite the fact that she had one of the highest win and pick rates for quite a while.

Compare to something like Kalista whose kit can completely invalidate entire champions. Not invalidating a player by outplaying them, but invalidating a player merely by the champion that they chose.

I'm certainly not saying that CertainlyT is the only one making badly-designed / broken champions. That's not true. I'm just disagreeing with your examples.

windwolf7771 votes

People were complaining about Jinx because she shredded towers about 4-5 months ago maybe? (Possibly less). So they nerfed her early Q ranks, made it scale better into the late game, and her point blank R damage but (I think) increased the execution damage. (I think. But don't remember 100%)

Nameless Voice1 votes

Yes, she was complained about a little bit, but nowhere near the amount that the champions with the most-hated kits were complained about.

Azir's only hard counters, from what I can see, are Fizz and Viktor. The former for sheer burst and ability to snowball off of one or two items,~~ the latter because his lazor still outranges Azir's AA w/soldier~~.

Axis the Dragon2 votes

I wouldn't say Viktor counters Azir - at least, not a hardcounter. There was a couple of LCS games where it was Azir vs Viktor, and from what I remember, most of the time Azir won the lane.

I can't harp on CertainlyT for making awesome Champions. It's the rest of the Champions that need to be on par.

That said, Yasuo has a hellish kit. I can't believe Riot thought it was a good idea to release a kit like this and not give it any mana and barely any cool downs.

Oh, and let's give him two strong passives as icing on the cake.

Guy Fox Teemo2 votes

Were gonna make that E that does pretty much does no damage at all, that requires minons or champions to be around cost mana, and have a 8 second cool down on the last target? The only thing on his kit that COULD have a cost is his w. Because none of his abilities have any impact without items or being combo'd with eachother.

He does take quite amount of skill, and by the look of it your a fairly new player. (Probably gonna get down voted for saying that but try him out yourself and you'll see) He's VERY easy to shut down, as almost everything in his kit has been nerfed to do almost no damage what so ever on there own. He's insanely item dependent , if he doesn't get that statik shiv early on and destroy his opponent he'll be useless for the rest of the game. UNLESS your playing in low elo (Which you are), where people don't know how to punish mistakes or capitalize on your advantage. Often resulting in very long drawn out games where yasuo eventually gets his items and just destroys :D

KatCraft3 votes

I used to play him a lot and no he doesn't take that much skill, but he gives the player a false sense of skill. When you dash around infinitely spamming q and e you certainly feel like a badass, but because he has so much safety and bully power, with no resource management, he really is one of the easiest champs to learn. His kit does have a high skill ceiling, but to pick up and play he's very mindless.

Being resourceless and low cool downs is what makes him feel cancerous to play against, whether he is overpowered or not. Even when you win against him, you feel mad.

Fadedpf5 votes

Yasuo has been nerfed enough. You might hate him for his laning and things in his kit. But he is no where near Katarina Riven level. He also is very easy to catch because unless he jukes you with dashes through minions he has no escape. If you want to screw him over pick a strong fighter or tank with a gap closer and CC to destroy him.

Yasuo's laning is awful. They pretty much gutted it jsut so he could keep his passive with the double crit chance making him this massive hypercarry.

Heimer, Viktor, Cho are all way worse to lane against.

Celeste Benal4 votes

I haven't seen a Yasuo but once in the last week. As a melee champ, you can easily poke him from afar and punish his laning phase. His shield is easily procced by autos. AA him then drop a spell on his head. He is very vulnerable to CC.

YossarianSensei3 votes

Yasuo is one of the few champs with an interesting and engaging kit. The way he's balanced is retarded, but fundamentally his design is great.

Much better than those 'spam spells till you hit something' mages.

KatCraft6 votes

His kit is fine, the decision to give him no cooldowns or resource management isn't. It's funny that you mention spell spamming, because that's essentially what Yasuo is.

Yasuo isn't that strong. Downvote me all you want. But if you know how to play against him and aren't melee it should be a relatively easy lane. Just keep his passive down with AAs and if he windwalls your AAs just laugh in your head then poke him really hard after it goes away. Repeat until Yasuo crys. I have no issue against Yasuo with: Ahri Brand Ezreal Malzahar Zed Syndra Veigar Lissandra Braum (yes Braum vs. Yasuo) Gnar TwistedFate Viktor Velkoz Swain . Need I go on? Yasuo is all about outplaying him. If you don't you are probably going to lose anyways because he is more than likely more skilled if he outplays you.

Boogie Disco2 votes

This is really funny to me. As a Yasuo main, I've played on two servers: Korea and EUW. In Korea, Yasuo is often called 'Ya-Pil-Pae'. Meaning; If you have a Yasuo on your team, you ALWAYS lose.

You can easily experience this yourself no matter what tier you're in. The typical e in, q+auto attack, and e slide out combo isnt as simple as it sounds because most players can respond easily enough with their own skills like Patheon's W, LeBlanc's q-w-e, all of which can quickly turn the tables on Yas (who also happens to have one of the lowest HP amongst mid laners if not for his shield).

And if you play amongst Koreans, most players know this, and react accordingly (because well, they're Koreans).

My experience in the EUW server, however, has proved different. Most players cant react fast enough to use their skills whether they're targeted or non-targeted skills. This makes it easier for me to carry the game.

So I can confidently say to you, the OP, that Yasuo being an untouchable champ is really just a temporary thing. You play some more games, you'll learn how to counter him reeeeal easy.

AlphaKappaPika2 votes

Hi, Plat 3 Yasuo main here, let me see if I can help.

There are a few tips that people already know about facing a Yasuo; poke his shield off with autos, he's weakest right after his tornado is gone, and he's weak to ganks. I'd like to go into more detail.

The key to beating a Yasuo in lane is proper minion management, and proper management is different depending on whether you're a ranged or melee champion. As a ranged champion, you want to keep the wave in 1 of 2 places depending on Yasuo's health relative to yours. If Yasuo is ahead or even, you want to keep the wave frozen a bit outside of your own tower, so that he has to go into tower range to order to hit you. You can basically do whatever you want to him if the wave is in this spot because you can simply retreat into tower range if he tries to go onto you. However, if you're ahead of him in health, you want to start a slow push, so you can poke him whenever he tries to CS and you'll have a buffer of minion support if he tries to all in you. In this case, he can't do much either.

For a melee champion, you want to slow push pretty much all the time. Yasuo is extremely vulnerable to being all inned by melee champions when he's trying to CS, and a good Yasuo will try to do a slow push of his own to discourage his opponent from attacking him. One important thing to understand is that while enemy minions are oftentimes Yasuo's best friends since he uses them to dash, they are also one of his biggest weaknesses since he's required to tank them in order to trade. If you can bait him into tanking alot of minions with some kind of defensive ability like an ori shield, you can very easily come out ahead in trades, provided you don't panic, keep autoing, and hit some extra free damage on him when he tries to get out.

Generally speaking, a Yasuo will always want the wave in 1 of 2 places. He either wants a slight minion advantage on his side so he can get free opportunities to poke with Q, but not so many more minions that the wave gets frozen outside the enemy tower. A good Yasuo will bait you into hitting minions with AOE abilities to push the wave back towards him if it starts to get too close to tower, allowing him to be aggressive again. The other position is for when Yasuo has a lead on his opponent; he will want to freeze outside of his tower, leaving a long trail of minions to dash through so he can all in you if you try to walk up to CS. The key to beating Yasuo is to keep the wave where you want it to be rather than the way he wants it to be, or there's not a whole lot you can do as alot of champions.

Other general tips for beating Yasuo include: Ask for ganks, an aggressive Yasuo player is very easy to bait and kill if he isn't strong enough to 1v2 already. Take exhaust as a combat summoner if your kill pressure on him is low, its a great way to neutralize his aggression in lane as well as neuter him in teamfights. If Yasuo misses his tornado, that is the time to be aggressive. His Q is on CD, he has no CC for a while, and his ult, by extension, is unavailable. And if Yasuo gets too aggressive in lane and messes up when trying to trade, all in him right then and there. If you get a lead against Yasuo, most champions will be able to zone him out heavily since he's a squishy melee only champion with no escape and no natural sustain.

And 1 final tip that almost no one knows about. Yasuo's ult is a suspension and not a knockup, which means it can be removed with QSS, Mikaels, Cleanse, Gangplanks orange, and Olaf's and Alistars ult. If you remove it, you can move immediately and will take no damage, but Yasuo will still be stuck in his ult animation until it is finished. - credit goes to slamurai jack (senpai notice me)

Hey Bronze 2 Yasuo main here "Actually Decent" You gave me some great tips. Thank you sir :)

Bastard Chief2 votes

Exactly dude. I hate seeing Yasuo every fucking match, and it's literally EVERY FUCKING MATCH. At least 1 out of 2 matches will have a Yasuo, and that's every other game for me. I wreck most Yasuo's but he is so annoying with his passive shield that needs to be deleted. His wind wall I can deal with, but his passive shield is just too much. AGAIN I WRECK MOST Yasuo's, and it's super rare I lose my lane to one, but at end game, you have to sit back and admit, he still becomes a beast if he has a brain, regardless if he lost lane. I don't hate Kat, or Akali, or any sin more than this fucker.

I guess it could be worse laning against Heimerdinger every match, or Cho.

Bronze Yasuo2 votes

..As you could probably tell.. I main Yasuo and play him a lot and I'm pretty sure he's not a super easy faceroll champ. It all depends on the skill level of the person using him (I'm not saying I'm amazing and I am indeed in bronze so I'm not sure how much weight my words hold). There are countless times I play against Yasuos that definitely don't know what they're doing, and I punish them for it.

Whatever I say is based off my knowledge of the game thus far.. I started recently so I'm not too knowledgeable about how to take advantage of the waves, jungle timers, where a jungler would be, stuff like that.. Feel free to say I'm wrong...

Minions are Yasuo's friends so I pay attention to **my **minions.. if a Yasuo Is E-ing around everywhere then he can't use his E to engage or to retreat while the minons are "on CD". Most of the time when I play Yasuo I push the lanes hard (unless I'm against Malzahar or something) which leaves me open to ganks if I'm not careful. If the Yasuo doesn't know what he's doing and can't 2v1 and you can gank him, you can probably burn a flash off him or probably kill him since he's pretty squishy, plus he can only dash through enemy minions.. not his own.. so he has a good way to catch up to people but it's hard to retreat if all he's got are his own minions.

Like killarviper said.. if you can freeze the wave near your turret that's pretty good because the only ranged harass he has is his whirlwind so if he comes up for CS slap him in the face because he can't do much back (His Q is a pretty long skill though.. its range is also just a bit farther than the actual blade's tip)

Sometimes I try to bait out the wind wall. Yes it's OP but it's got a long ass cooldown: 26 / 24 / 22 / 20 / 18 and since it's the last skill he'd probably want to max you have time to retaliate after if he isn't trying to all-in and kill you.

**Watch the Yasuo as you're in lane. **

  • See if he's the type to throw out his whirlwind as soon as he gets it (also see if he aims it at the minions or on you most of the time to try and harass) or if he holds it (I don't like to throw out my whirlwind immediately that often because it makes my laning opponent scared or move awkwardly trying to anticipate and dodge it).

-If he throws it out at the minions, he's going to push his wave and he'll have to farm near your turret

  • See if the Yasuo uses the E > Q3 combo , where you dash in and do the AOE whirlwind. If they do, make sure you keep your distance when you see the whirlwind up because he can use it to harass or use it to ult you, if he misses the E > Q3 punish him and harass him while he's close since he won't be able to do much as the animation is going through.

Just as killarviper said...

There are a few tips that people already know about facing a Yasuo; poke his shield off with autos,** he's weakest right after his tornado is gone**, and he's weak to ganks. I'd like to go into more detail.

  • Watch his items.. if he has finished item 3087.... play safely. Yasuo gets CDR on his Q based off his attack speed (「 0.6% for every 1% bonus attack speed 」, down to a maximum 66% reduction.) and this is one of his best items. The item 3087 procs can be pretty annoying but the attack speed he gets lets him Q more so he'll be getting those whirlwinds faster and throw em out more often.

  • See who he ults, how often he ults... Yasuo's R has a short CD but see if the one you're going against is the type to go in on any knock up they see even if it's on a tank you can take advantage of that..

CC counters him hard.... especially if there aren't minions for him to move around in. For example, if you're playing Ashe (yea I know Ashe doesn't go mid), and Yasuo is chasing you with no minions to move around in to catch up to you... just slow him to death and kite him down..

If the Yasuo is not super fed/OP and he manages to ult a good amount of people take that as a chance to kill him. If his ult doesn't kill anyone or a good amount of people and there's not much back up.. think about it.. Yasuo who's most often pretty squishy is practically throwing himself at you. If he ults 5 people, he's going to land right into your whole team.. kill him..

As for his shield passive... it's really annoying in lane... I know... His shield is regenerated from moving around (including his dash) Try and AA it and harass him during the time it's down. Try not to trade with a Yasuo if he's got a shield up.

Wow this got real long.. real fast.... I should probably end it here........
