You can build tanky with her, she does surprisingly well tanky. I managed to 1v1 the enemy adc being tanky Janna.
Support=/= tank/fighter
Because you did not build her tanky?

Healers are often the mandatory to be successful in a wide range of dungeons in multiplier (and sometimes single-player games where you control a party). Going in without certain rolls can generally be felt, but going in without a healer can actually make it impossible to beat certain challenges. And healers often do peanuts for damage and have the worst defense of any class in such games.
Riot didn't want healers to be 100% mandatory for League, or supports in LoL to be completely defined by healing.
My point here is tankyness and damage aren't the only important things to look at, and rolls that don't bring tankyness or damage can still be game-breaking, even if what they bring isn't healing.
The utility Janna brings shouldn't be underestimated.
As for this:

Janna's +50 AD steroid certainly helps hyper-carries out late game and her amazing utility gives her a solid edge in 5v5 situations.
Not sure I'd call her the best late-game support though, and I don't think being the best late-game support has ever really been part of her identity.
There's a big fking difference between Tank supports & Healer supports. For a Gold 3, it's up to you to figure it out yourself.
