Does anyone else think the changes to the Rift Herald are bad?

Do not like this change at all. It's too much. The enemy shouldn't be able to force you into a situation that you have no choice but to go after an epic monster. Right now, if the enemy team is doing dragon, your team can choose to contest or not. A lot of times it may seem like you have to contest it, but you never have to, it just may be a really good idea because if you don't you will probably lose. In this new situation, if you have the Rift Herald going down your lane you will have to fight it while the enemy team is trying to kill you.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on it?

An aside from the main point above: A simpler but more powerful dragon type buff would be to add one dragon stack to whatever dragon stacks you currently have, making early dragons more valuable, and the Rift Herald a more important objective between 17:00-20:00 minutes. So, if your team gets the first two dragons when they third one spawns you could just get the one extra stack from it or try to get double from the Rift Herald. This will force the enemy team to really respect both objectives, or allow you to take the third dragon for free while they take out the Rift Herald.

Toplane has always felt like an island, the new rift herald is a great way to punish less proactive teams. It also allows toplaners to roam more and have an impact as they will have a spilt pusher to take their place while they roam. Also makes 4 man botlane ganks less likely to happen as you can punish that more frequently or just botlane camps in general.

You should always contest objectives no matter what, that was the issue with the old rift herald as it wasn't worth much.

It's a trade off you're making, just like with dragon.

If the enemy team has top, mid, and jungle doing Rift Herald, you can take that opportunity to close in on bot lane for kills or towers, secure dragon, or take down mid tower. You can also use it to counterjungle, ward the enemy, and clear out wards on your side.

Yeah, there's a price, but every trade off does. And the fact that the new Rift Herald ignores champions when going down a lane means it won't have much of an effect on teamfighting; you can play safe and clear the enemy Herald from a distance, or close in for a fight and kill the Herald afterwards.
