@Meddler: Are there ever any plans to do something with full build gold?

ModCaptainMårvelous··12 votes·9,354 views

Right now, you'll usually reach your full build in an average game by about...30-40 minutes-ish. Depending on your build/how you do. Once you do, however, your gold becomes absolutely meaningless. The only possible thing is for a quick switch in terms of items OR sell boots, buy banner, buff minion, sell banner for boots. Otherwise you just get an enormous mound of gold that builds up and up yet does nothing.

As a comparative example, in DoTA2 even if you reach maximum build, there's still other stuff to buy, One-time pricy consumeables that give you perma-stat buffs. The buyback system. etc. I'm not saying League needs THESE specific systems but it would be nice to be able to do something when we've got billionaire gold with nothing to do with it.

We'd like to investigate late game gold sinks at some point. Overall though capping out's pretty useful to the game though. It provides a chance for the other team to catch up if a team doesn't take advantage of their lead actively (can't just keep getting further ahead forever). As a smaller benefit it also serves as a signal to group up and actually try to win the game (some players just want to get their inner Nasus on and farm forever otherwise, even if it's not the right strategy).

Would be cool to see a power up for 3k that you could only buy if you have 6 items and an active Elixir. If you're that far over the gold cap you should get SOMETHING to help break a stall.

To be honest, I've never been that far ahead and still unable to close a game...

It's common for late game supports, since they have to save a slot for pink wards.

I believe Smite has a major elixer that lasts for a few minutes and costs 10 times what the smaller elixers have. They should not be way over the top but if they have a bigger boost they might prove worthwhile.

Think if this as a power play potential more then anything. However it would make late game turtling nearly impossible so not sure I would want it to happen.

Main gating factor is getting 3000 gold every few minutes unless getting a ton of kills so it would be an interesting power play Also make all of them locked to only level 18 Say the three Elixer were: Omnipotent Elixir of Iron- +10% total Health, 35% tenacity, 15% damage reduction Lasts for 2 minutes; UNIQUE – PATH OF IRON: Leaves a path behind that grants allied champions +15% movement speed. Omnipotent Elixir of Wrath- Increase base AD by 30% and bonus AD by 20% Attack Damage and BLOODLUST. UNIQUE – BLOODLUST: Dealing physical damage to champions heals for 20% of the damage dealt. Lasts for 2 minutes Omnipotent Elixir of Sorcery - + 15% AP Mana costs decreased by 20%. Cooldown increased by 10% even if at 45%. Lasts for 2 minutes. UNIQUE – SORCERY: Damaging a champion or turret deals 5% AP bonus true damage. (5 second cooldown against champions. No cooldown against turrets.)

Good suggestions!

There's a lot of interesting design space there. I'd be interested in hearing any conversations you have about this topic, even if they don't pan out in game for whatever reason.

That's exactly what I do as a Nasus main! I think "I am full build, but I can still get stacks, this is great." :D.

Appreciate the response!

I can't really think of anything off the top of my head to be completely honest. Maybe a way to "pay" for an extra super minion in lane (1 minion = 1k gold) or something like that but either way thanks for letting us know you guys do have a desire to do something about late game gold.

or make it like black market brawlers with specialise minion that boost the wave

ModCaptainMårvelous6 votes

That'd be cool, yeah, although I worry about how balanced it would be. (Anyone remember entire waves of razorfins?)

fuck those razorfins man

Rebuilding towers. Building siege weapons. Donating gold to other players. Buying buffs (similar to elixirs). Buying tower buffs. Buying minion buffs. I could go on.

I think it would be cool if, after a really long time, (like 45-60 minutes) a secondary shop opened in base that allowed you to pour gold into enhancing your push potential. Like adding a second cannon minion to each wave, adding a new long really long ranged minion, or something like this. It's very annoying when late game the only way to break a team with insane stall potential and decent team fight potential is gambling on Baron Nashor or getting lucky with Dragons and getting 2-3 Earth Dragons.

How about finally haveing a pink ward slot? It wouldn't give to much power to fullbuilt guys but certainly helps useing the gold for the team and helps building items like trinity without denying the option for pinkwards by filing the entire inventory with components. It also wouldn't allow to sink enough gold to make further farming attractive, avoiding the inner nasus.

Sad Tyrant3 votes

you could do as one person suggests, to make a purchasable pink ward slot, so people would get pink wards late game. make it like 1000-2000 gold

Might be worth looking into makinging potions like item 2138 or item 2139 available to buy at full build and activate like item 2047 does on ARAM with a full build (unless you guys already looked into that .__.). Other than that, I think capping out is pretty much fine the way it is. When I get max build, I normally think of that as the time to watch teamfights closely, see what is hurting me the most (AP damage, AD damage, enemy kiting me to death) and sell/ buy items to compensate for it. I call those my "Overkill items".

Votable Jester1 votes

Elixirs already do work like that.

VvVVvV6 votes

Invest it in a nice mutual fund. I hear Poro Snax are on the rise.

I wouldn't mind a system that lets you invest in minion waves, both cosmeticly and stat wise, when you have reached full build and wanna spend extra cash for more fun or trying to end game faster.

Like a spend "X" gold to change siege tanks to aoe attack, spawn a random melee minion with bonus stats/mini ability each wave, or just when your minions die they spew confetti that speeds up attacks of nearby friendly minions for a period of time.

Votable Jester4 votes

I think the point of being full build is that you cannot get any stronger; you've reached your max. This makes it so that the field levels out once the game reaches a certain point.

GA is a great buy if the death timers are really long. If you are in a game where you are getting to full build with gold to spare GA I imagine could be critical to the outcome of teamfights over items that you give you additional damage.

It is pretty good item for tanks/top laners and most ADCs. Maybe not a great item for supports or midlaners.

Swiftstrike42 votes

What would be nice is if you could upgrade an item to a higher form only after being full build with all items.

E.G. I build item 3110 and only after having 6 completed high items i get the option to pay the shop some amount of gold to get an 10 additional armor on my item 3110.

It could be temporary or permanent.

Swiftstrike41 votes

I rarely encounter games that go so long that I am full build AND I have spare gold. Typically, I will buy and then sell a item 3026 after its charge is up and I will buy elixirs.

Maybe one out of every 10-15 games I get my champion to full build WITH crazy amounts of gold. And those are the games where I am probably pretty fed early. Games simply shouldn't last that long.

ModCaptainMårvelous3 votes

But a GA isn't a good purchase in many scenarios. Maybe mid-game but late game the item is fairly bland without much stat benefit. Not to mention there are very few items most characters would trade for a GA.

Along with that, this isn't about "if the game should last that long" but "In these cases, what is the point of gold"? Perhaps it's just me but I frequently get games where things are a long slog with many characters hitting full builds. It would just be nice to have actual alternatives.

lilpokfluf1 votes

Most games don't really last that long but to be fair the whole point of full build is that if you reach that point before your opponents do and you can not take the game with that advantage then they deserve to catch up.

Gold is never enough. As a mid player: Sell boots. Buy luden or trinity. thats 2000-3000g power boost. Sell cheap items. Buy IE, death cap, BT, ducks blade and so on. Switch from qss, zhonya, maw, sterak and GA while they cooling. Also, raduinn, death plate are options. It depends on who will dmg you (like does liss have ult? is your tank alive so their adc will try to dmg you?) in next team fight. AD assassin like Zed can somtimes switch from ad pen to life steal. You get yommus + ravenous hydra + ruined king + BT + whisper + trinity/deathman plate and you are a god. Of course this build really depends. Talon can go full crit. It depends.
