I am the only not completely sold to Poppy rework?

EDIT: I AM TALKING MOSTLY ABOUT PASSIVE ...why a lot of people do not read further the title? :c

I am not a Poppy main, but i had my chance to play her a few times and struck as a champion i would like to play... if she was not so messed up :p

So i really looked forward her rework, and while i am mostly pleased on what i see i am concerned about her passive.

The new W and the E are all tools that are powerful both while diving and in backline protection, and that is fine because even thought she is a "daring diver" she must not have to play stupidly aggressive and tools to help the squishes are more than welcome. Her ult too can have a long range, but that is fair because it' s an ultimate, it works also from the frontline and because it' s very very cool power and strategy wise.

The passive... does not satisfy me much. I like the shield, i like the fact that i have to pick up the buckler... but i don' t like the added range. I am afraid i have to play too much conservative compared to how i expected to play her. It does not add much teamfight wise either, as if the devs thought she had problems in lane and decided to give her this farming tool rather focusing on the Q.

It is still a minor thing compared to the rework whole, so probably i am just exaggerating, but what are your thoughts on that?

I'm not sure I get it. You have extra range for one hit every 18ish seconds, and that means that you'll have to play conservatively? I don't see how that follows. That doesn't have any major bearing on the rest of her kit, which still encourages her to fight close-up. What exactly is the concern?

Decrit1 votes

that the champion, and successive balancing patches, develop too much around that added range.

But probably you are right - it' s a very minor thing that probably will not have a too much noticeable effect

Wait until you play to make judgments.

Decrit1 votes

you are right on that, but i am not judging already. Mine is a concern, and i wanted to see if i were the only.

Her passive is the only thing I don't look forward to. I know I'm going to mess up my auto attacks often because of it.

Decrit1 votes

if that procced melee i would got a better impression.

Poppy's q needs longer range that's the only problem if they were to make it about a 500 range and slightly wider poppy's rework would be fine.

Decrit2 votes

Well, if the range was bigger then the delay on damage would be way harder to dodge. However having it bigger only on activation could help for example for farming, but then there is area discrepancy between istant and delay making it very messy.

But let's not delve in these details number-wise, we can't appreciate them well enough

Valexfor1 votes

They could also make it like sion's q, you can charge it and make it bigger (and stronger), or you can just unleash it directly for the instant damage.

Decrit1 votes

meeeh, sion has a crowd control effect associated to it. I think that is unnecessary, also because she must stay nimble compared to Sion which is bulky and does not get around much.

Valexfor1 votes

Well she also ha a gap closer + stun and it should be easy to land double q with a wallstun so I get your point.

EcchiOtakuTM1 votes

Actually I would like if the first cast is it's current range and the 2nd hit was a large range that would be fine

I gave it some thought

Decrit1 votes

that would be even harder to guess in my opinion :P

and less useful for picking up CS in clutch scenarios

EcchiOtakuTM1 votes

I guess but I really just want a range extend on either the 2nd hit or both hits xD

It' s Teemo sized.

Yordles >_>

You can see the effort they siphoned into her Rework. As a old poppy enthusiast I can say that Riot put every effort into making her great.

The finished product shows the effort

Wish I could have said the same for Morde

Decrit1 votes

Well that does not surprise me - it was stated since beginning the difference in resource allocation :x

But yeah, she looks great - even if i dislike at first glance the passive it does not mean i am trashing everything else ^^

This will be the first champion who can stop all the damn dashes in this fucking game. Yes. U are only one.

Decrit1 votes

But i have nothing against the dash stopping! that is hella cool! xD

oh so when you say you are not completely sold, you dont mean you dont like the rework, you mean you just dont like every part?

Btw, buckler looks like good harass for a support who needs to take relic shield and therefore benifits from being melee. Also, her kit looks good with 0 items. Wallstun, anti dash, huge disengage ulti, more than zero harass. Meaning that poppy support will probably be her strongest role. If you play support you will def be glad of the buckler. If you get a bad matchup top lane it will greatly increase your gold/hp-lost-to-harass ratio. Otherwise, you might be right in that it will be a little weird and useless. She looks like a great support tho. Im not sure which part of her kit isnt good in that role. She might be as good as thresh.

Decrit1 votes

but did you read what i wrote? :c

I am alright with many of the skills proposed, i am only worried about the ranged attack on passive! Just that, not even the shield gain or the minigame around the buckler, just the added range.

Probably you are right that the ranged buckler works well in a support role, but i were worried more about the main role Riot was balancing around ( which is tank/fighter, mostly for top/jungle ) rather support.

It does not mean i disregard support, just that i was more worried about her core role.

Woook3r1 votes

I think the passive is really cool and something you can easily get used to on a champ that is so simple. Just keep looking at your timer. I think they gave it to her because she will be a support and needs some harass. I guess its buckler grab shield engage with wallstun? Its also going to make her somewhat less un-viable against a gnar. But then again my favorite champion is literally built around such a mini-game.

I am curious if she can proc relic with her passive. That would be interesting. She would not have to position to catch her buckler if that were the case bc it would kill miinion and come back to her. That would be good for poppy support.

Decrit1 votes

as... support? as far as i know that' s not the plan, and looking at the kit does not look like one too.

But the dash stopping barrier looks very strong, so probably there are some matchups in duo lane that favors her well ( imagine her against kalista or lucian!) but sounds more like a risky kill lane than a character that can actually "support" an other.

na. she looks like a support. Whenever you see a champion that can **do ** something without any items at all then it can be played as support. Sona has auras, jana has shit tons of ranged cc, morg obviously doesnt need items to have a 3.5 second root, alistar has an ulti that makes him super tanky at 0 items and needs 0 items to engage w headbut.

Poppy gets free armor, can build relic nicely, ulti is free and very useful peel. In fact she has two displacements, and some moderate burst that doenst need any items to be good. The harass she gets every 7 seconds is just cake. You could litterally build nothing thru the game and have a huge impact (even a game winning impact) with poppy's ult alone, same with annie's stun, morgs q. The cc on those abilities does not scale with items. Its just as usefull with deathcap as it is with boots. Even her back story looks like a supports back story.

God Mode Enabled1 votes

honestly i like her changes. She has more utility than just ulting and diving because now she is actually a champ that requires strategy to play her right.

Think of her new passive like dravens axe throw but you dont have to active it.

Poppy always lacked any form of harass when she was a top laner outside of wall bashing an enemy, hitting with Q then running away, so this provides her not only with some safe poke, but also a way to farm from ranged.

If she last hits a minion with her passive, it automatically resets letting her lane farm form a safe distance.

Poppy so depseratly needed something like this with all the high CC high mobility champions.

And that new ult is esily the best peel in the game.... sends enemys flying a full screen away? uhhhh yes please!

Decrit1 votes

I am just worried about the implications of the range in the passive, that' s all :P

If she could proc the shield by being attacked or by being close then she could at least trade melee, rather than having a ranged attack every 7 seconds that draws minion aggro. I am just worried that it will be developed a too much distanced fighting style, that' s it :P

If I noticed something with the Sion rework, it's that the community has secretly made a rule that states:

Those who have an opinion that opposes "Sion-Level Reworks" are wrong and this is proven by how shiny and new the rework looks.

Decrit2 votes

well, 9/10 cases is true :P
