Nami vs Sona support

I use braum normally but which of the 2 squishier supports outshines the other? Both have aoe ults but tenacity doesn't affect namis. However, sona is less mana hungry I think. Nami has Q for a cc early on while sona has movement speed to disengage or engage although nami has that too. Sona can shield her support from one aa harass or so while poking back... ughhhh

No, Sona is more mana-hungry. I'd suggest you go with Nami. She peels better/offers better disengage and is more like Braum (more peels) than Sona is.

Nami is more reliable in the current meta.

Has everything except tankyness, but she's a little hard to play.

Nami, period. Not saying sona sucks but with her current kit she feels a lot weaker now than before where as nami can play extremely aggressive from a safe distance and make more of a impact than sona can early. Plus the heal tends to be better :) heal and poke? Yeah I will take that any day

Nami is hands-down the better of these. Before Sona got nerfed, there was a debatable fine line between the two. Matter-of-factly, the month before Sona got nerfed, her play-rate in diamond and challenger was skyrocketing. Pro supports were picking her 2nd or 3rd most often after Thresh and maybe Morgana. The fact she's never played there anymore is evident she's no longer viable.

uhhh no, a good Sona can still do well and she is definitely still viable. Nami is overall better, but in some situations Sona definitely outshines the fish.

Those situations are when Nami is banned. Those are the situations Sona outshines Nami. Congratz, you found the one set of loopholes.

Nami is better. She has more CC and is easier to play in general. I really dislike the new Sona. She isn't bad, but she doesn't rub me the right way because I used to really like her before her rework. Her rework does give some nice power spikes when you activate your aura at the right time to support your team, but it doesn't feel as good to me without a whole team behind you. Braum can deny both their Ultimates with his shield, so just as heads up.

They're indistinguishable. Sona has a shield while Nami has a stun pre-6. Otherwise there's no meaningful difference between them.

Mm, such rose-tinted propaganda. Ebb and Flow heals more than double Sona can and will still bounce for more damage than Hymn's bolts. On the other hand, its damage is higher than Hymn's bolt+on-hit and again will bounce to heal more than Sona could dream of. Not to mention Ebb has better scaling on its heal than Aria. For the use of only a single spell, Nami outclasses Sona when she casts 2 spells.

Then we have Aqua Prison, yes its a stun, but you conveniently chose to not include the fact that just like Flow it does higher damage than Hymn's bolt+on-hit. Better damage, harder cc and equivalent scaling.

Next is Tidecaller's Blessing. Each individual charge has higher on-hit damage than Hymn's and landing all 3 once again out-damages bolt+on-hit. This all before adding in the slow that each charge inflicts. Sona only gets a slow off Tempo which requires 3 spells and she has to apply herself, she can't donate it to allies while she's out-of-range. Higher damage and a slow, a better slow at that.

Finally is Tidal Wave, it has a flat 100 mana cost, nearly thrice Crescendo's range. It applies a knock-up, which everyone knows is stronger than a stun and 2-4 seconds of slow on top of that. Sure Crescendo wasn't nerfed like the rest of Sona's abilities, but Tidal Wave is just blatantly stronger regardless.

Then you have to note Nami's passive makes all 4 of her abilities MS boosts whilst Sona only has 1. There's also the fact that Nami's abilities aren't melee range like Sona's, she can safely sit in back and buff teammates and even Aqua Prison keeps her out of danger. It's amazing to think that all 3 of Nami's abilities deal damage, yet at the same time they each individually outclass Sona's 1 damage ability.

To conclude, I'll compare their base stats: Nami has +12 base HP; +40 base mana; +1 base AD; +0.1 AD/Lvl; +5 base MS; = base HP regen; = HP regen/Lvl; + 0.31 AS/Lvl; = base AS; + 0.7 armor/Lvl

That's 7 base stats that are higher on Nami and 3 that are equal. Summarized, Nami has more damage, healing, cc, mobility, range, resource management and better base stats.

And none of that is meaningful. If you're trying to paint me as someone who likes new Sona, don't. I'm just not going to say she's useless. She's a strong tactical support. I just hate that she's a tactical support instead of her old strategic support position.

And YOU neglect to mention that Sona can give her buffs to her entire team and her abilities don't generally require aim AND that her ult comes out far faster. But of course, this is only flavor changes. They're both good supports, I just hate Sona's new identity.

Except that Sona cannot give her buffs to the entire team, her range being reduced to melee prevents this. Oft I see Sonas not even able to give it to anyone other than themselves.

The point I'm making and that this entire thread is about, everything Sona does, Nami does better. It's like, why would I play Glorious Illusion if Call of the Haunted is unlimited at 3? Why would I play Potion if Gold Berry heals double? Why would I play a non-foil Swamp if I can play a foil?

The fact that Nami is just hands-down better means Sona is NOT a good support. Something can't be good whilst something else that's exactly the same, but better still exists.

It may be difficult, but the possibility exists. Sona CAN buff her whole team. She can RELIABLY buff at least one other person unless she's just horribly out of position. But most every difference between them is some minor difference that doesn't change how they're played. Sona has her strong points and Nami has hers. Which is sad, because Sona used to be different.
