I actually think new Malzahar's kit is "salvageable" if he gets some power shifts

Let's be honest, new Malzahar is a lot less satisfying to play as since he relies 101% on his Void Swarm. And unlike Yorick who can still smack you with a shovel he lacks significant avenues to do his job besides summoning a voidling horde to eat you alive.

So why don't we change around some scalings and numbers so that his other spells feel just as good to use as other champs'? His ultimate in particular feels like it should be changed back to its flat ratio while adding a percentage health component to his voidlings.

Because let's be honest, it fits them rather well. Seeing a void swarm overwhelm a tank and eat him alive, chipping away at him with %hp damage.

I don't know, I just feel Malz could use a few changes to his kit to make him just more fun to play as. His passive for example could be changed to that he has to hit a certain amount of spells before he gets his spell shield back as it promotes INTERACTION in lane!

Just my two cents on Malzahar though http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/img/champion/splash/Malzahar_0.jpg

I don't know if the swarm mechanic was set to give him more windowed power. It just kinda feels like the swarm mechanic itself makes him feast of famine. Because you either have a way to deal with the voidlings, and he becomes useless, or you don't, and he just over runs you.

The other part is that Riot has to continue to muddy up how the swarm mechanic works, just to try and get it in a not so oppressive state. And it's a point where I think Riot could try and simplify the ability.

Theory craft with me

New W (Summon Voidling)

increase ammo count to 3 no longer summons other Voidlings Killing a lane minion reduces the recharge timer by 50% Champion Kills/Assists refreshes one charge.

Something like this could give him a little more versatility. As he can summon Voidlings as utility without having to rely on their ability to swarm. Yet retains his ability to swarm simply by acting as an ability reset. This also makes his ability to swarm a bit more mana gated. Lastly, the soft reset on minions could keep him out of the support role, assuming we wanted him to be a better midlaner.

For your voidling changes, the ammo count is the real reason malzahar became a support I feel. It shouldn't be on charges, if you want to say it cant spawn new voidlings, that basically ruins jungle malzahar even harder, at least pre 6,.23 he had a unique identity where he could take objectives really easily, and help the team that way.

I'm not sure what to say then. People keep complaining that Support Malz is ruining Malz for everyone else. I vaguely remember the Jungle build. Though it seemed to me that Riot was so ready to nerf it to the ground, I was convinced that they thought it inherently Oppressive.

If Malz is going to be good, he has to do it in a way that isn't going to be oppressive. And as far as I can tell, his swarm mechanic is on a knifes edge between uselessly getting oneshot, and oppressive overrun. Personally, I don't particularly care about role. (I'll play him in whatever role) Though I'm still of the opinion that he shouldn't rely on swarming.

Rather they just put an updated version of his old voidlings on the W. Those that grew stronger over time instead of burst spawning.

in my opinion malzahar rework was a failure simply because it took his old identity which wasn't "anti-assassin" but mage that can destroy a tank team

back in season 1 kassadin was one of the most broken champ before his first nerfs (AP ratio from 100% to 60%) https://youtu.be/kiDoE2FQgEg?t=337 but if you picked kassadin into shen+sion+ww+urgot+cho you just lost the game cause kassadin was useless against bruisers

malzahar on the other hand everyone keeps forgetting that he was one of the most popular pick in s1, his W was an AOE that lasted 5 sec and dealt %max hp damage until riot nerfed his old W from 9% max hp+1% for each 80 AP to 8%+1% for each 100 AP (total damage reduced from 45%+5% for each 80 AP to 40%+5% for each 100 AP)

then they nerfed it again to 6% and he was forgotten

just my 10cents

For the powershift,i feel like Riot sould either

  • bring him baack to pre-6.23
  • shift power from his w to his e- I don't know about the ult change, I feel like its fine, but if you do have % health damage on voidlings(and it cant be more than like 3% because thers like 6-10 of em maybe change the ult.
  • and for the passive change, instead of spells cast, make it a flat 20 sec cd at all levels, but make it reduce itself on e charges off of E refreshes.

If hes back to pre 6.23, jg malz is back, mid malz would be fine, and support malz might see a playrate drop, because his voidlings aren't spammable anymore. W has always been the problem, so shifting power to his e might change that. % health on the voidlings seems cool I love the spellshield, because it blocks so much. (anyone else ever dodged a jinx ult and gnar ult in the .25 sec time its up LOL)

I think W needs to not be a fire and forget spell and require actual effort on his part

yorick takes God damn forever to farm his ghouls and they drop instantly to autos, but they do a lot of damage when their ADC is afk

malzahar requires far less dedication to building his army

had an idea where they merged E and W, drop his space aids on someone and then builds it up with autos and spells, and when it pops it spreads the DoT to everyone nearby and summons a set number of voidlings, and so he can just have a massive army of them if he manages to pop multiple Es and run a team over
