The root of why people hate Yasuo

AhmCha··33 votes·3,088 views

So the boards are no stranger to Yasuo balance threads, and whether or not they're justified is up to the individual to decide, but I think it's important to address why exactly people hate this champion so much.

It because of the anxiety he causes.

No one wants a Yasuo in their game, you don't want to fight one, and you certainly don't want one on your team. The second one is locked in, the atmosphere of the game is liable to change. If he's on your team you place bets on how long until he reaches 0/10, and if he's on the enemy team you wait for him to pop off. Now there are several champions like this: Lee Sin, Riven, Shaco some fourth guy I'm forgetting about, and I'm not gonna say that there's something special about Yasuo, but I think that the fact that just locking him in can be a source of anxiety to both teams is at least part of the reason why so many people dislike him.

Personally I've started having an easier time laning against him, primarily because I play a fuckton of Xerath and Yasuo can't windwall most of Xerath's damage, but my general disdain for him has not gone down any less. No matter how easy of a time I may have against him, the fact remains that I don't want him in my League of Legends games.

This probably isn't new to most people, but I just like the discussion.

TL;DR: Yasuo is one of the carriers of Shaco Syndrome, and the anxiety that causes leads him to be hated.

EDIT: I sort of generalized by saying that this implies to the entire League community, I mainly meant people who already disliked him, or may have previously fallen victim to this stereotype about Yasuo. If this doesn't apply to you feel free to downvote and be on your merry way.

i don't mind yasuo on the enemy team, i don't mind yasuo on my team

don't talk for me please thanks

Fair enough, generalizing was presumptuous of me.

TyrekGoldenspear10 votes

Is the fourth champ you're thinking about Vayne?

Ralanr5 votes

I assumed Zed.

AhmCha11 votes

It is now.

Papa Andrei1 votes

I assumed it was Singed. Then again he manages to win while being 0/10 sometimes sooo

Nah, itd be cho cho, nothing is scarier then when a fed cho can walk into your fountain, eat someone and walk out happily.

I just hate him because he counters my entire champ pool. Like if I'm playing Lux, his shield and/or wall will negate most or all of my damage. If I'm playing Kat, his stupid wall blocks literally all of my damage (including ult, passive, Q) except Shunpo even though it's melee range, and I can't poke or burst him through that effing shield. If I'm playing Zyra I can keep his shield off and be a nuisance, but he vaporizes plants with multi-hits and aspd and just windwalls any roots or ulted plants.

He's just a completely cancerous champ that doesn't play by the rules the rest of us have to play by. He's toxic as fuck in lane but still has a great late game. He splits well playing from behind, can get fed easily off ally displacements, hyperscales, and isn't even squishy with the Mallet build and life steal.

I wouldn't say that he has no weaknesses. I would say that his weaknesses are not pronounced enough for as good as he is overall.

You could then learn some of these guys Cassiopeia Viktor Kennen Gangplank Jayce Malzahar Annie

Nameless Voice10 votes

Which suggests that the very existence of Yasuo aversely affects the pool of viable champions for all players.

Rend The Dawn2 votes

No, the champions I selected fall in categories, which mean they can be swapped by others in the same category. For example, Annie has a great deal of cc and burst, Kennen has good poke with autos to proc the shield, GP can farm from range with barrels (q CD way lower than windwall), Malz has a suppression, jayce has upfront burst that will dump on Yas etc.

Xerath, Talon, hell even Urgot do well in the matchup.

Now I ask you which champions are completely shutdown by him.

Moonš1 votes

You sir, should play yasuo 10-15 games, get to know his kit, and you will find it easierto fight him.

RcGjWO640w8 votes

Yasuo isn't a feast-or-famine champ though and shouldn't have Shaco syndrome. The only reason that he does is because people try to play him like they're Bjergsen at Worlds and just cock it up.

Spârky3 votes

exactly why i hate yasuo then they blame their team for not helping them

NightmareAmazoX7 votes

Because Yasuo player are the only ones to ever ''BLAME THEIR TEAM''

Spârky3 votes

never said they are the only one's i said that everyone that is on my team always do. Read what i type don't say i said something i didn't

NightmareAmazoX5 votes

Your hating a character because of the ''Player behavior'' which has nothing to do with the Character or the OP'S post at all.

Ralanr10 votes

If anything it's because he's not feast or famine that he causes anxiety. At least with Riven you can pretty much shut her down, but it feels like Yasuo only needs 2 kills to get his core and then people are like, "Fuck, he's relevant now"

Obviously it's not completely true because I've seen shutdown Yasuo's a bunch of times. But the anxiety is still there.

RcGjWO640w5 votes

I mean, he trades so well early and his late game is godlike. If he has any amount of lead, then you can expect a dash->auto->Q to just one shot your ass if you're playing any kind of squishy carry.

I would love to see Riot change him up to be more of a "if I don't do what I'm supposed to, then I can't scale". Think about Kindred. If you're not getting your passive stacks, then you're not going to be relevant, no matter how late the game is going. New Rengar is the same deal. These are champions who have to do well early to snowball into a late game lead. If they can't capture that lead early, then it'll be very hard for them to scale into the late game properly.

I think if Riot game Yasuo a mechanic like that and took away the amazing early power out of his Q and passive shield, then he would be a much more interesting champion to play as and against.

I really wouldn't hate all aspects of this champion if I didn't have to play against him every other match.

Moonš1 votes

Play rammus, not better then speeding through the jungle with a thorn finding a yasuo and ass handling him.

Some fourth guy you say? Jhin

Hey, someone else spamming Xerath ! ######Side note: it's always amusing to see Yasuo players throw up a Wind Wall as you're firing Q, W, or R.

I can think of some additions to your points:

1) Yasuo's allies feel forced into playing a knockup champion Sorry Karma Leona Sona Soraka Taric Bard Morgana Amumu Elise Evelynn Fiddlesticks Kindred and many, many other champions. You shouldn't play them because someone on your team wants to play Yasuo, so you should become his knockup bot...

2) Yasuo's enemies can have more of their kit denied by him than by any other champion Most spell shields Nocturne Sivir item 3102 disappear quickly after absorbing one spell. The exception to this rule is Morgana , who can block multiple spells but the shield gets weaker with every source of Magic Damage that hits her, so you can trade dealing damage now to break the shield then CC her afterwards. Wind Wall can, theoretically, block all abilities from an entire team. If something does get around that (heaven forbid we walk around and fire something else), then he's got a passive shield that can protect him.

No other champion in the game can completely negate so many abilities and put them on cooldown. Insult is added to injury when the Wind Wall is thrown up at the last moment facing the wrong direction and it still protects him because it starts at the center of his hitbox.

Yaśuo Main1 votes

i literally do not see any yasuo pressure an ally to change the champ they have

maybe ask, but its never pressuring them

DrCyanide2 votes

I should have been more clear: I don't see Yasuo's ask for ally champions to pick knockup champions (at least, not common enough to note), but it feels like you're expected to pick a champion with a knockup because he's on your team.

Yaśuo Main1 votes

oh ok

Moonš1 votes

Yasuo main here. Surewe fine knock ups that our team posses a good thing in all, but you should not feel pressured in picking a knock up champion, we literally have a good built in knock up in our kit, and if we cant land that, then we are bad.

Noblewind4 votes

Playing against any main of these champs is like playing LoL on hard mode. Not that you won't win those games or that they're unfair, but it just feels more stressful than other games.

They have so many nuanced ways to outplay you, just due to the fact these kits do more per second to worry about than others.

Moonš1 votes

I will agree with you on that, but honestly, I find that us yasuo players play him because he fits our playstyle to a T and find him fun.

:3 heres a tip, if ya play jungle that is, and see a yasuo picked on the enemy tram, pick up rammus, I promise you, yasuo players and any ad players will shit themselfs

Oglaf3 votes

Overloaded kit with far too many Passive goodies in combination with one of the most solid set of abilities in the League.

Moonš1 votes

High skill ceiling and is actually hard to get the handle on him mechanics wise Seriously, one wrong move with yasuo and you could easily die.

Tukan Tonko3 votes

I mean, I played Yasuo few days ago, I was against Poppy on top. I don't play Yasuo so much (I got high mastery on him but not because I play him alot, it's either because I win most of the games with him or it's something magical, I am not sure [4lvl mastery if you want to know] ) So you can imagine how it ended. She was able to tower dive me and kill me. I was 0/4 and I thought that it was the end of the game for me. Because it should be like that. If someone dominates you in lane you he should be rewarded. But no, Yasuo is not like that. I was at least 50 creeps behind because I started to play very passive, so it was additional advantage for her. How did it end? Well, I got perfect farm 308 cs in 30 min match, I was able to IK enemy ADc, when I was splitpushing I was able to repel enemy ganks or get away alive, because of his mobility and insane deff (I had no tank items, not even frozen malet) We won and I still had only 4 deaths.

Now you tell me. Yasuo is champion with high skill ceiling, how can someone like me dominate like this after getting stomped so hard? I mean, yeah, I have decent champion pool so I am mechanically good, my game knowledge is also pretty good, map awarness solid, but still, it's super brutal total skillful champion, no? And exactly this is why I hate him. If you are good with him, okay, you deserve to win games. If you are bad with him, heeell no, you shouldn't just get away winning matches if you are put so far behind and you come stronger than anyone just because you got like 20 more creeps and one kill. And yep, the thing that your Yasuo is 0/10 and enemy Yasuo is 20/0 is there, too.

I think that he must be changed in some way. Something that won't change his kits, so his mains will still have fun playing him. I mean, I have some fun playing him, but at the same time I feel terrible for playing him.

Around999People2 votes

Eh, I don't mind him. Usually I play supp so I can do something about him unless he got fedone. Or I can feed him if he's on our team. And when I play top or jg I take Xin sometimes and he makes Yas completely useless.

Moonš1 votes

Duuuude, you know whats fun, :D yasuo with any aggressive support bot lane.

DoktorKaiser2 votes

Let me be honest, I dont care about his damage, I have faced release Xin, release LB, Rengar after release and many other 1 shot shit that annoyed the hell out of me. I hate 2 things about him that make me just not enjoy the game straight out:

  1. his stupid E, here is how laning against Yasuo feels dash dash Q you dash dash dash Q you dash dash dash, you are pushed in, you push back, dash dash dash SO MANY FUCKING DASHES, just the sound makes me insane, he slides all over to you for a Q-auto and dashes back, its soooo annoying in combine with his shield

  2. his W is gamebreaking for half the roster and ruins the fluid gameplay and there is no downside to him using it, it even rewards you if you put it in a totally wrong direction...

AninLegions7771 votes

Pick Illaoi and Darius. Heck pick Xin or Jax. And if you feel like making Yas completely useless, pick Irelia and max E. His dash is the funniest aspect. If you pay attention to the minions, it's easy to deal with him.

DoktorKaiser1 votes

I dont play much top lane, I am just saying what bothers me when I face him mid.

AninLegions7771 votes

Even better. The new Talon is a beast vs. Yasuo especially when Yasuo dashes into melee range. Syndra is fun cos her Q can't be blocked by his windwall. You just have to bait his windwall before ulting. Malz is another plus cos of his shield and none of his abilities can be blocked by Yasuo's windwall. Viktor is also good. Ryze can lock him down. Akali is busted vs. Yas. Just take some AS runes to proc passive and Q faster. Ahri excels vs. Yas post-6. Heimer dinger if you want to laugh as he can't dash anywhere. Yeah and there are others but these are the ones I felt had the easiest time.

Moonš1 votes

There are two champions I can not agree on as a yasuo main.

  1. syndra is actually countered by yasuo, sure her q cant be stopped, but the rest of her.abilities tends to be stopped, he can also dodge the damade from the q with a dash

  2. haimer, a good yasuo player will not let heim keep his turrets up, not to mention everything is a projectile, blocking with a windwall.

Camp Top1 votes

{quoted}

I dont play much top lane, I am just saying what bothers me when I face him mid.

For me it's very similar. I actually do play top and whenever they come up top they're usually really bad. The ones in mid however get really scary when they get that PD and you can't kill them anymore.

Moonš1 votes

I resepct your opinion, but heres the thing.

  1. if a yasuois dashing every chance he gets, he's a bad yasuo.

  2. a yasuo shouldn't be pushing the lane hard, if he does, hes vunerable to gankes, no minions to dash to to escape.

  3. sure the windwall is weird, and annoying, but once thatthing is down, ranged can lay waste to him.

Yea, im a yasuo main, but honestly, good yasuo players should be playing safe and not pushing or using the windwall or dash every.chance they get. That windwall has a long ass cooldown, once its gone, the ranged champions can lay waste to him.

NewGuy1012 votes

I personally like the Wind Man. He leaves behind a lot of gold for a vagabond.

Vesemir1 votes

So true... Whenever i see a Riven, Fiora, Zed, Yasuo, Shaco on my team i get a panic attack because i know they will fail and feed the entire team or they will just snowball there is no middle ground. They usually feed though.

Moonš1 votes

Nab, I think the best think is as a yasuo player personally, having my entire team feed and still winning because they get too cocky.

Try this, play a champ you are pefect with, carry with em instead, if you are the jungler, camp the enemy zed fiora or yas, make their life pay, enjoy as they rage into the chat.

Oh and if ya see your team start to become toxic, aka the ones feeding, pay no mind, read the words and laugh, dont respond to them, dont let words over the internet control you. Laugh at people's anger over the internet.

Vesemir1 votes

Did you read what i write?

Veltox1 votes

Its weird if i don't hate him at all?Even when i play stuff like TwistedFate against him i'm not raging like a crybaby. Its just my opinion even if you consider it biased but there are worse champions design wise like Vayne Fiora Riven Tryndamere Kalista KarmaIrelia . Before jumping on 'YOU FILTHY BRONZE GIT GUD' train tell me how they are fine first.

Mommy Elise2 votes

Trynd is pretty much a splitpusher who doesn't have a ton going for him besides duelling and splitpushing, he's essentially a damage stick with one "get out of jail free" card that's countered by any form of CC. Fiora's similar, but take away the "countered by any form of CC" part.

Irelia spikes at Tri but has a weak laning phase before that if her enemy toplaner knows how to punish, and this can put her behind for a good bit. While she does have Q and ult, her waveclear is actually somewhat subpar.

Riven and Kalista both suffer from, when they're good, being a bit too mobile for their stats. Vayne got buffed by the stealth changes but I think that's getting addressed. Vayne's laning and teamfight is actually bad, or is supposed to be bad when she's not overtuned like she has bee. She acts more like an assassin or a duelist, honestly. Karma has a good amount of peel, but it's somewhat conditional peel.

I'll agree with you that while I like certain champions on this list, a few of them are probably not all that well designed. That said, I think a few of them are honestly in the opposite direction of OP, like Trynd who's literally just a big stat stick, completely one dimensional. If their team knows how to deal with your splitpush, well you're fucked. If not, then you're probably good.

Unlucky471 votes

I don't like him because i could be playing a hard counter, and he can get a kill on my jungle or i could get ganked, and he will come back to lane with zeal and be garunteed to kill me with 4 autos and a dash or too. Like I main akali and I lose to him alot not because of me, but because my jungle twitch or whatever walks into my lane pre six and gets 3 shotted.

Moonš1 votes

Thats not really yasuos fault for getting ahead, thats because of your jungler. Tip, if ya want to anally rape yasuo, get a jungler who plays a mean rammus. His qs count as autos so he will hurt himself on rammus w and thorn.

ChronoKreeper1 votes

I've seen a full build yasuo kill a full build rammus with randuins all he has to do is get a bt and ult for the 50% armor piercing and rammus is dead
