Why does Fiora Scale on AP?

I really don't understand why a fencing move Riposte is scaling off of AP instead of AD. For that matter, why is it dealing magic damage? There is nothing magical about riposting as you are merely deflecting a strike aimed at you and counterattacking when your opponents weapon is parried to the side allowing you inside their defenses. It seems that a small AD scaling on Riposte would even be healthy for Fiora.

yasuo's e scales off of ap and deals magic damage where is the logic of out maneuvering your opponent and slicing his side as you dash past him why do zed scale off of ad how is being hit by a shadow a physical attack why does katarina scale off of ap what does a girl who throws knives have anything to do with magic why does darius's ult deal true damage when other dunks deal physical damage

I don't know, as I don't play Fiora, but I feel she's in a healthy spot. It may just be encouraging you to build dfg.

Also any ally giving you bonus ap through an aura or something boosts your riposte. Seems highly situational, though. If it isn't ap, probably best to make it flat.

Maybe the sword is magical.

Being AP scaling doesn't always mean it has magical properties, it can simply mean it's just an "ability"... or maybe it's only therere for balance reasons.

It's to promote building Trinity Force. item 3078

Triforce has AP. Champions who like it typically have both AP and AD scaling. Jax. Corki. Skarner. So on.

The 15~35 AD Riposte offers scales with AS, Crit, Armor pen, and life steal - is that not enough?

As for the reflected damage: Only 8 champions in all of LoL don't have any abilities that are powered by ability power. 8. Not having AP ratios is abnormal, not the other way around.

Ability Power also generally powers abilities, kind of the point of the stat. And unlike HP, AD, MP, HP5, MP5, AS, Life steal, Crit, Armor, MR, MS, etc. - AP is actually 100% useless without abilities to power - as all it does is power abilities through ratios. This puts AP in a bit of a predicament - Pretty much every stat in LoL will do something regardless of whether or not that something is optimal or sub-optimal. A champion needs to have some AP scaling for AP to be the same way.
