Karthus Q minimum range

Massive zone control tool that clears waves and deals insane isolation damage that can be spammed for nearly no mana.

And you know what?

It can stay that way.

But nearly-manaless, aimless, wave-clearing, insanely damage dealing poke needs some kind of trade off.

Karthus is a zero mobility champion. That means you need to be rewarded for getting past his massive range, massive damage poke that costs almost no mana. When you succeed, why should he still be able to toss it up right in front of your face as if he has no weakness? His Defile is fine as an aggressive self-defense tool, as well as his wall.

Think of it this way. Outside of this minimum range, he has his Lay Waste to poke and heavily damage the enemy. When they manage to pass that barrier and enter Karthus's personal space, they need to be at an advantage. Even though they're taking damage from Defile, at least they're not getting hit by Lay Waste. It's not a matter of dodging, either; the fact that he can use his poke+zoning+waveclear+nuke spell at close range is the issue. Its very existence is toxic.

Lay Waste: When not in Death Defied, Lay Waste has a minimum range of 425 (exactly the same as his E's aoe.) The ability cannot be used at any range below this.

Thoughts?

Karthus is actually a medium/short range mage, getting close to him is what he wants you to do (I mean, that's why his main DPS comes a PBAoE ability).

YOU should be at a disadvantage when they get in his face, because that is where Karthus is trying to get you. I don't think you've played against too many Karthuses if you think he is a long ranged poke mage, because he simply isn't (that would be somebody like Xerath, Ziggs, or Lux). The whole point of the delay on Q is so that you can dodge it when he uses it at range.

You are misinterpreting Karthus' intended strength as a mistake, and attributing strength to parts of his kit where it isn't actually located.

Karthus has a very diverse kit, as well as one of the most rewarding passives in the entire game. Why this post has so many downvotes is appalling to me.

Well, if you double his maximum Q-Range i guess it would be OK - you dont want this, do you?

His lay waste is actually really easy to side step due to the indicator before it pops and the fact that it has a small hit box.
