Viegar/Nasus passive scaling is good design?

I hate complaining c.c. I understand they've always been like that. You bully them and close before they catch up. I just don't understand how it seems like I'm the only person annoyed that they basically get massively rewarded for playing the game normally. My teemo and I went out of our way to kill Nasus and Vie every time we saw them. If they swapped, we swapped. It just doesn't seem like good design to me beating someone to the point of uselessness only to come back and obliterate you because you left for a moment to go make a play on the map. That just aint fun to me. You want to outscale me? Fine level up and farm up items. I think Veigar is a bit more annoying because he outscales you by landing his abilities and farming. You put him behind and he'll slowly outscale you poking you and other people. I don't enjoy having to tail them all game and stop everything else in fear that in the minute I'm gone they'll grow stronger than me. You basically get locked into your lane as an abusive baby sitter :l

Is the counterplay to pick another lategame hyper carry? I know a ton of champions that slam them in the laning phaase and have a good/decent late game. Though they can't deal with them once they get even a decent amount of "farm scaling". Apparently 6 kills and cs denial ain't enough.

Noone really complains about it so I'nm sure there's a reason why. I just don''t know what it is. Why does noone find this annoying?

No not really.

Nasus himself becomes really team reliant late game not to mention a glorified damage sponge despite his scaling. His weak teamfight pushes him to the spit push role which he does well enough at but several other hyper scaling melee adcs notably yi can 1v1 him with relative ease.

Viegar is a differnt story all together, has enough utility to be useful but his major problem is his i win R. He can almost if not outright one shot someone simply by using it, its terrible game design.

Personally, I would just like Veigar's R to be a skill shot

Nasus needs a passive that doesn't give him free life steal on top of infinite damage potential and high durability, maybe built in resistance or something, but built on life steal is unfair to everyone else in the game that has to now deal with this tank healing more while doing ADC damage and not having a single damage item

Veigar either needs to scale slower or lose the execute or event horizon, you literally shouldn't be able to hold someone still and stack off of them before sending them to oblivion with one button. Either that or veigar needs an entirely new passive because he's simpler than Brand but scales even more faster for literally poking you and you can't get to him unless you have flash or another blink ability, it's very uninteractive gameplay and his r being point and click is ridiculous. But that's just my ideas how these monsters could be fixed

Veigar: Veigar revolves around interacting with enemies in order to scale properly. As it is, his early game is extremely weak, even after level 6. His ult is a little bit annoying to play against, but in general, you should be able to shut him down early with assassins. If you prevent him from getting kills (stop his roams, don't get solo-killed, watch for jg ganks), you should be good.

Nasus: Nasus is annoying to play against for one reason: his late game is inevitable. There is fundamentally no way to stop his stacking, since he can get stacks via perma farming AND farming kills. If you win lane, he'll farm toplane and ignore his team until ~25-30 minutes when his Q does half the ADC's health bar. playing against a nasus, you can't roam/help your team too much or nasus will stack too much. you also better not get solo killed and dominated. if you do, it's game over. The only viable counters to nasus are a very, very good adc (with skill in kiting) and preferably a champ with very heavy CC.

one thing, apart from his stacking, that annoys me is his W max. if you're caught alone, you can't run away. Even flash won't save you.

Veigar's is fine because he gets stacks by interacting. Nasus' is not fine because him interacting with his opponent puts him behind.

Also, that Nasus was clearly not the problem. He had less than half the damage of two other members of his team and little in the way of defense.

I want to emphasize on "annoying" he isn't a problem. Usually when i see Nasus on a team i pick Cassieopia and kite him all game. Assuming Veigar isn't their mid it usually works out even if he's fed he can't kill her. Just have yet to find an answer to Veigar that makes him less of a headache and simple to deal with. Even if its an even lane just someone who can keep him from taking over the game.

The problem is Veigar's E stun is also horrifically obnoxious.

That ability alone is basically on par with over half the ultimates in this game (and it gives him stacks for stunning people). Combine that with Glacial Augment? Absolute hell.

It smooths over his early by giving him ridiculous early presence via CC and slows (and his delete button) while he scales into late game.

I personaly find infinit scaleing to be poor design by default.

However, there are reasons they don't get complaint about a lot despite that. They both are not that popular, and people don't complain about champs they rarly face. Also, they both can be dealt with especially in higher elos. While i hate nasus, i love seeing him first picked top, as i can counterpick and get a free snowball, and even if not, if your team does well he can easily be dealt with later on, it doesn't matter if his Q oneshots a squishy if he never gets close enough to do so, though as a top/sidlaner you need to get some lube sooner or later...

Veigar just has a rather unreliable kit which for a midranged mage is pretty bad with all the mobillity going on. His E is a powerfull tool, but on a long CD and countered by cleanse/QSS, and without it he's basically free food for bruisers and assasins ni matter how much his nubers scale, as he just won't land his stuff befor dieing, so he can be dealt with despite absurd numbers aswell. Still doesn't make it good design, and shows how bad the state of power/mobillity creep with more and more overloaded kits is these days given how poorly his kit aged, but it's why few people complain, especially at higher elos. They might scale to absurd numbers, but you can play around them in a way that makes thos numbers pointless.

Let me get this straight, you play Teemo, and you're complaining about other champions being hard and annoying to deal with? [zombie-brand-mindblown]

He never said he played Teemo, he said he was playing with a Teemo...

"me and my teemo"

the only top lane champ i play is Irelia and we all know she has matchups that will stop her in her tracks.

With nearly every new champ having some form of cc or dash, keeping a fed susan away is harder than it sounds, since every meta jungler has hard cc, most supports do as well, midlaners tend to nuke, and adc's except for ashe really have ways to get away from/keep at bay, except it works for both teams. While susans adc probably doesn't have to rush a qss, the enemy does, putting their adc at a disadvantage midgame, and thats just to avoid a potential wither/cc once that fight, god forbid theres an amumu or an udyr with him (or, grab the ointment now if hes paired with yummy). Thanks to numerous buffs, all it takes is Nasus building his core fudging items to hit 40-45% cdr (based on personal saltiness), then pop his ult during a particularly juicy minion wave unattended in any lane to catch up, and that's on top of the bonus stacks from jungle camps, or a jungler being nice and letting you steal their small chickens while they get the biggun.

Look at this another way: in order for nasus to hit 300 stacks by 20 minutes (which is doable in even bronze pretty averagely), nasus would have to hit 100 q's on normal minions, or 25 cannons/jungle camps/champs, or any combo. Thanks to buffs, you can't really stack armor against him as his e negates %armor, you can't stack attack speed bc you'll eat a fat witherino, damage is cool but unless you have the burst to hit him while he withers and pops biscuits/pots he's gonna heal up with his passive/spirit/possibly lifeline (again, personal saltiness). There are waves every 30 seconds pre 20, meaning 37(8? technically but thats at 20 so), meaning before 20 there's 12 cannons. Assuming you only get the cannon, that's 144 stacks already. If you grab one minion per wave on top of the cannon, that puts you at 255 stacks at 20. If, like most susans, after the first real back at 10 you grab your mandatory 2 cdr items, you're at the point where you're probably going to be getting 4 minions a wave at least, and all the cannons, and the 1 per wave before 10, that puts you at 417 just at 20 on a lackluster q farm and that's _not including any champ/jungle/scuttle/enemy pet/summons stacks either _. You throw in that even at challenger level they'll forget to keep a wave in check and suddenly after 20 you're looking at a possible 48 stacks per minute per lane, and if you have a susan who is metagaming the fuck out of his team stacking multiple lanes as they pile up, it's gonna be bad.

Veigar isn't as big of a problem imo, mainly bc shutting him out early pretty much keeps him out (unless your team eats his stun at an inopportune time, but that +5 per assist gets nasty quick if he hits stuns (or buys, idk, an item that puts out a shield to his team giving him an assist on everything regardless of skill), and with his being a flat ap gain it's even more problematic. Veigar bottom is really the only time I've seen it be a huge problem, because with a skilled leona/thresh/lockdown champ, someone's gonna be cc'd for a while and hit with guarenteed w's, chunking them super hard.

Although junglers make a huge difference vs both those champs, Nasus is one that it really doesn't matter if you do or not. Someone that plays him and has watched any big nasus player will tell you that there is always a way to farm safely enough, and if you're garnering jungle attention, it means that your jungler should be pressuring the shit out of objectives/enemy camps/ other lanes and snowballing them, as nasus will pretty much stay relevant regardless

It's kind of annoying but they have a ton of weakness, absolutely no mobility. Weak early game. Nasus is more of a midgame champ, because his stacks get out-dps'ed unless he can get to say, 2000+ (only in absurd games does this occur). Veigar is a beast late though, but his short range always limits him and if people can avoid the cage all his other stuff is easily avoided as well.

in a league where games hardly last above 35 minutes anymore if you shut out hard scaling champs and fail to close out you risk letting them back in the game

yes because it rewords you for playing well eithe rit be farming ect or doing you just as a apc mage

AMADEUSdotEXE1 votes

You mean power farming or landing easy to land abilities. Whether Vie kills you or not his E gives him a ton of stacks in successful teamfights if he lands it. He doesn't need to kill you to scale. They shouldn't become gods for doing the exact same thin gother champions do. Not to meantion with Veigar his R becomes an auto kill with enough poke and "farm scaling."

thats what makes him unique something all champions need with 140 on the table

No their design is trash. They are either useless or hard carrying and obnoxious when they are the latter. Nasus takes your tower while tanking 2 champions then proceeds to double kill them when tower is dead when he is carrying and veigar just point and clicks you into the grave yard or lays down in aoe that does the same thing late game. Oh shit, got hit by one, guess I'll sit in graveyard. I get that it's a long animation but that is ignoring the fact that top lane usually has hard cc, support usually has hard cc, JG usually has either hard or soft CC and veigar himself has fucking CC. If they want to hit you veig W, you are getting hit lol.

Quepha1 votes

Absolutely it is, differing power curves is an important part of the genre.

Fun fact: While Veigar is a late game champion due to the power of his infinite scaling, Nasus is not because no amount of scaling can overcome his weaknesses in mobility and champion durability scaling.

Velasan1 votes

Yes because this is a game and it is supposed to be fun. If every time another champion doesn't fit your preferred play style they changed it the whole game would get really watered down.

For example, I really hate playing against Fizz. I don't think Fizz is healthy for the game. However, I fully understand that there are people who like to play Fizz, and that my fun doesn't override their fun. Similar things could be said for Teemo, Shaco, and Jayce.

As for actual balance both Veigar and Nasus have been so weak in the past comparable to newer releases they have received repeat buffs just to stay meta. Their infinite stacking mechanic is far from breaking the game. When Veigar got reworked they had to double the amount of AP he could stack, but delay his E to keep up. Nasus can now Q every second with his ult on because he used to get kited so hard he would become useless. These issues are not because of how they scale either, it's because the game has evolved to a point where most other champions have hyper mobility and unavoidable damage and they are both simple champions with no mobility.
