Do NOT open. Angry Mordekaiser Addict inside

Enough is enough.... I've poured my heart and soul in trying to spark a reasonable discussion over the last week, giving constructive criticism and heavily thought out suggestions for the Morde rework at day one and two. These threads drowned in the boiling ball of hate that were the boards at the time. I gave in to my feeling of betrayal and tried to appeal to riot and their designers by asking them to actually come down from their throne to have a discussion with us Morde enthusiasts.

What did I accomplish?

Nothing

Less than Nothing. I not only make everyone think I'm a whiny wimp complaining just for the sake of complaining without actually trying to be reasonable. I open up a Morde thread at least once a day, trying to let off steam so I can rest my conscience. But all to no avail. I didn't manage to get a single Red to answer to our pleas, there was no discussion to be had, no criticism to be acknowledged. Just simple, eerie, depressing silence. I simply failed to do anything to actually try to "save" my favorite champion and heck, I think I deserve it.

Why bother thinking riot actually give a crap. Why try to communicate my gripes with the Rework even though they stated they'd like to know. The sheer fact that I accomplished nothing just goes to show that once Riot has woven their neat little plans nothing can stop it.

But hey, at least they comment on trivial things lying in the distant future than actually care to actually tell us what's happening to Mordekaiser, what Ideas could be incorporated in his rework, what's his core identity and how can we make this bloody thing work.

This will probably be my last thread on Gameplay and Balance since I can't even help my favorite champion.

It is over, my friend. We have failled.

No matter how much we try, everyone else will forever see us as whiny little bitches that completely deserved this. CertanlyT does not care for Mordekaiser...he never did.

Mordekaiser is dead now, and there is nothing we can do about it.

Your team will not accept you picking Mordekaiser bot. Your team will not pick an ADC top/mid to make up. Mordekaiser will be utterly unplayable in solo que, and it doesnt matter how powerful or weak he becomes.

But hey, he MIGHT get picked in competitive play. Or not.

He'll hover either between utter garbage or broken Op since everything he does now is so binary that tweaking numbers will either break or make him. There's no middle ground with a pure damage kit with no utility on a champion that now relies on being around allies 24/7. With weak wave clear, lackluster range and moderate tankiness.

Sigh... I feel like the best course of action would be killing him like they did with GP and then reworking him entirely :P

I don't understand; why would we think you are whiny little bitches?! I've seen quite a few posts on the Mordekaiser rework that have been acknowledged by Repertoir himself, albeit it does make me a little uncomfortable that the only Rioter who answers is him now; it feels like they are just doing this to try to cover up the reality of the situation, which is that nobody from Riot is sincerely concerned. I don't know about you guys, but it feels like RiotRepertoir is here as a therapist, and that none of what he's actually saying will be accomplished. But I'll give him time. Let's just see if any of what he's said is actually completed in the future :)

Anyways, sorry for getting off track, but I mean, why would we think that about you again? I don't get it; it seems like at least from what I've seen, that quite a few Mordekaiser players are at least SOMEWHAT satisfied with the changes that have been made to him, other than the fact that his W can only be cast in a duo lane (which I find ridiculous honestly).

I'm mostly hoping that some of the movement speed nerfs are reverted in the future. It's my main problem with this update. There are other things too, but I might be able to overlook a lot of the other issues with the other changes if the movement speed wasn't so abysmal.

Indeed, it does fit thematically for him being slow but other champs in the 325 ms category have either extreme tanginess/cc/pseudo mobility like Naut or blinks like Ez

I don't think you are being whiny. I think you are justified in every way for being worried.

I disagree with a lot of your assessments, but you are completely entitled to the champion you bought and loved. Its sad that Mordekaiser is being changed in such a drastic way, but I also think people are jumping the gun a bit. Mordekaiser DOES the same things, he just gets around them in much much more different ways. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised as everyone adapts and Mordekaiser comes into his own on Live servers, but until then, there isn't much I, or anyone, can say to help you right now. I do honestly think that 5.17 will harbor W changes that allow him to function in a solo lane.

Just because its accomplished in a different way, doesn't mean it will be as different as it sounds. Give it time, and I'm confident you'll see a new master of metal rising.

To be blunt, he won't work in soloqueue. He probably won't work at all.

They're trying to use him to replace ranged ADCs, but he doesn't have safe, ranged, sustained damage, nor safe ranged turret busting powers. These are the two reasons that ADCs have picked day after day for seasons on end.

Not only this, but they simply didn't give him the tools to stand toe to toe with an enemy ranged laner.

If we see any Morde, he's probably going to be played Duotop, and y'know what? That isn't going to be fun to anyone at all. Its going to be plain old disgusting, and then he'll get nerfed into the ground and left to rot.

This rework, plain and simple, is not going to work. There is no world where it will work, its fundamentally flawed to the point where it won't, it can't, succeed.

I'm sorry. Try it once he hits live for at least 5 times and tell us what you think.

In my opinion an ability that says "You are forced to go duo" makes the game static and is bad design. in this case Morde has both an active and a passive that say "duo or gtfo".

You shouldn't damn the whole company for the actions of a single man. CertainlyT is the only one at fault here. While the other Rioters are trying their damnedest to make the community as happy as possible while keeping the changes that they originally conceived, CertainlyT is kind of doing the complete opposite. Numbers have been tweaked, posts have been responded to, and changes have been made. A special shout-out to RiotRepertoire who has been a very frequent speaker on the Boards. So yeah, CertainlyT at least owes the community the ability to call him out. While he sits silently in the shadows holding unto the very first few numbers, the other three Rioters are out there making changes in the lights. They saw the backlash, and stood in the light and stuck to their guns. They said that they were keeping the changes, but were willing to change one or two things to keep the community happy. And it worked. But CertainlyT is doing the opposite by just sitting silently and waiting.

So please, don't act like the entire ship is sinking due to one man on board not doing his job properly. Because it really isn't. Try to see the fact that while Mordekaiser might be having some hard times, others seem to be doing well.

Yormaughm6 votes

I have to make a confession.

Until now I wasn't on board with all the CertainlyT hate for more or less the reasons you're mentioning. Even if he does things that are questionable, the rest of Riot seems to have it together and I was giving him the benefit of the doubt for maybe just wanting to shake things up and being too enthusiastic about it.

But the more this kept happening the less it made sense, and this was kind of the last straw for me as far as CertainlyT goes.

I can only now picture him as a really passive aggressive guy in the office whom everyone else is always on edge around. I see him as the kind of person who would actually get to the verge of yelling at someone in a board room because they disagree with him. And he's likely the kind of person who would continually bring up his old ideas even once they'd been shot down, being sure to rephrase them just enough each time. All this really does is create extra work, extend meetings and secretly piss off his coworkers. I can very easily imagine him as a bad coworker, which if you think about it kinda makes the bad implementations he's responsible for that we complain about make sense because he seems like the kind of person who genuinely sucks at working in a team environment. His (hypothetical) inability to work well in a team directly translates to his implementation of poor decisions in a team-oriented construct like League of Legends. (It's actually kind of ironic that in this case forcing a champion into a "team-oriented playstyle" is what the latest outrage is all about, but it's absolute proof of the lack of knowledge or caring about Morde and Morde players.)

I'm sure CertainlyT has had good ideas and a relevant skill set to do his job, I'm sure Riot views him as an asset, but anyone who has worked in an office environment knows the exact personality type that I'm talking about. They're the kind of people who should never be given too much power or responsibility because they'll (probably not even consciously) just use it to shove everyone else into a corner because they're incapable of compromising on their own vision. CertainlyT seems like the kind of person who, as a manager, would kindly sit there and listen to input, and tell you you have good ideas, and then never implement a single thing you say, effectively ignoring you, which is how he responds to criticism from the community as well. Nobody likes working with this person.

I used to cringe when I saw all the CertainlyT hate posts, but I think I finally understand them. "Riot's League of Legends" is starting to turn into "Riot's League of Legends featuring CertainlyT" and that is not a good thing.

The Fast2 votes

One thing. This implies that the things that CertainlyT implements are only previewed and judged by him. This is not ONLY CertainlyT's fault. There were a lot more people behind the scenes that approved, improved, and agreed with CertainlyT, before he even STARTED working on the changes.

Auryiel4 votes

As far as I'm concerned Morde's only hope is that the balance team is not nearly as retarded as CertainlyT and re-enable him to use his W on only himself and minions and instead give you a BONUS when you use it on an allied champion.

We can start from there.

And then tone down his ridiculous Q damage.

And then give him back some much needed movement speed.

And then put some power back into his ult's MAIN function, which is using it on someone, instead of wasting all of its power budget on something that will happen twice a game at best.

The Fast1 votes

You only get 2 dragons a game when you a level lead?

Karn Bishop4 votes

Congratulations you now know a small tiny portion of the pain eve mains suffered for 3 years as you gleefully laughed at us and threatened to report us for playing her.

Except your champion was fine pre rework power wise, and is fine post rework power and balance wise. Your just afraid of teamwork, for instance did you know W does 800 damage over 4 seconds when maxed first? so leona, voli, thresh or blitz support + lvl 5 ryalis + 3 Q hits = dead adc n support.

I've read every morde complaint thread, and it always boils down to not wanting to work with other players, that same toxic mentality that "elite xin, vayne, and riven" players suffer from.

Terff6 votes

Its not that we don't want to work with other people its just that it doesn't suit his character to rely on another champion throughout the laning phase.

Karn Bishop3 votes

And i would argue that morde 100% relies on support champions to do anything in fights and not be kited. That supports name is the jungler, the only thing thats changing is where your support is located on the map.

And yes junglers are secondary support type champions first and foremost, they support map control, they support securing objectives and support every lane.

Tohoko the Neko1 votes

I counter argue that your arguement is false because he doesn't necessitate a constant handholding ally to have a winning lane or not overly feed kills. The jungler is more versatile than a support. They have more map presence than any other lane does at any given time because they ward the jungle.

The duo bot lane's support roles are to keep the main damage dealer safe and able to farm without having to hold hands so that they don't get bursted down while at the same time actively work to create a situationally ideal opportunity for a kill.

Morde's rework takes the well established support role and shoves it out the window because he's melee. By definition, he'll be at an extremely high disadvantage against two ranged champions who can outplay him even poorly because of his lack of tools to properly respond to the threats in his lane, regardless of support with him. He's pushing lane, enemy jungler ganks from the river. He's trying to farm a huge minion wave, he gets bursted down by the enemy carry. He's in the side bush trying to capitalize on the surprise factor, a trinket ward goes down before he enters.

Try having a lee sin or kha'zix or a xin zhao as support a few times and see if they don't ks a B.F. Sword out of your carry because they have a gap closer and your ADC doesn't and then tell me that they are support material. I'll take your word for it, no questions asked, no doubts about it either.

TheFirstGokun1 votes

When current Morde is in a solo lane, how does he win? Through sheer numbers? If the enemy is smart and knows their matchups, they'll stay out of range and refrain from entirely throwing the early game and feeding Morde. He can only win or lose a good matchup with jungler support.

SUPPORT.

I'd say that unless the enemy walks right into you, current Morde doesn't do too much. He does rely on his team to leverage his damage output and it seems pretty natural for them to give him power in a duo lane where he can cooperate with his teammate and capitalize on the raw damage he has.

TL;DR: Morde has always been pretty reliant on his teammates, and the rework won't kill his character (at least above Gold ELO).

Trash ADC Btw4 votes

I disagree. Mordekaiser can win on sheer bullying and farm denial alone.

ArkenStorm3 votes

I love casting w on a minion so that their aa doesn't kill it then the turret does XD it removes only about 1/2 CS per wave, but that adds up. so funny and it screws them up so bad

Tohoko the Neko2 votes

You would be right if you said it'd be above Challenger ELO, not gold.

That said, Morde doesn't generaly need jungler to act as a support in order to be effective. Forcing your lane opponent to make positional mistakes is part of the game and he emphasizes that very well I think. The rework doesn't respect that. Simply put, it takes a stab at most of morde's power curves to shove him into an impossible and unhealthy role for his identity and game mechanics remaining remotely similar to live.

ArkenStorm1 votes

it's also that we don't want to be FORCED to work with someone else, having to rely on them to be completely useful.

Nilok3 votes

For all the positives people say about CertainlyT, the biggest glaring fault is his inability to act on feedback and effectively communicate, and that is damning when dealing with customers.

MarkedOfKane3 votes

You poor man. I oppose his current rework as well, but I don't play Morde a ton.

You have a summoner name related to Mordekaiser and are even using his summoner icon.

This is going to be just like Veigar. Community backlash and they will lock the changes. The "Juggernaut update" is just a disaster. I only think Darius can pull it off, the rest are absurd.

A rework on a champ and riot isn't responding to feedback?

Hmm seems familiar.

Stars Shaper3 votes

Well I tried myself too before this rework to share a talk about Morde but Riot seems on a Totalitarism attitude about him.

Now, I don't despise the will to shifting him into more lanes and making him functional in the place of an ADC. But forcing mechanics in his kit that won't do anything if he is alone is pure garbage. Expecially when said tool is something other HP cost champions have for free (hp back mechanic) and other bruisers are reworked into being just better forms than what they were not losing anything in return.

Double standards, that's a huge problem here.
