I'm a bit confused about the new rank system. Do we have to rank up off roles as well as our mains?

In the latest dev talk they expressed systems to allow greater LP gains for off roles so they can catch up to main roles in ranked standing.

I'm wondering if we can just focus on our main roles as usual or if we now have to get every position to the appropriate ranking

You don't have to do anything. The core concept is that people will have 5 different values to represent their skill in each role instead of one single value trying to do everything. The change just improves how balanced games are, it has nothing to do with how you personally approach ranked.
