His sustain is massive and probably the best sustain/tanky ap mid rivaling chogath Greivous wounds are few and far between (trist taken out, only ignite and morellonomicon is left basically) His nevermove if it hits kitey adcs like vayne or kalista will end them. A fed Swain is like GG though, he'll hard carry the game like crazy. It's almost Annie level.

Ya but I'm saying GG. When Swain or Annie go like 4/0 early on they just snowball out of control. A fed AD carry can be bursted down. A fed bruiser can be kited. A fed Annie will just Tibbers you to death. A fed Swain wont die as he melts you.

You actually got your answer if you put the answers together. He's not meta because pro players don't use him. Pro players don't use him because he doesn't fill the requirements they look for in a mid. That's why when you do see him in pro play it's always top. Unfortunately he's much weaker at split pushing then the more meta tops, so he's not seen there much either.
tldr: In solo que he can stomp with someone that knows him because in solo que you're mainly looking for someone that can solo carry. The pro scene tends to need more specialized picks, so he's out, and what the pros play tends to make the meta.

dEAdbUs1 votesOn high levels of play Swain sucks. Good Swain can stomp Gold, but never Diamond. My brother is one of the best Swain in the world (was #10 in prev year on lolskill.net), so I know what I'm talking about. Riot ruined game with last champions and reworks.

Zair Umbras1 votesSwain fell out because he doesn't have all that much damage against the tanks. He can burn with a Liandry's and Rylai's combo, but when it comes down to it, most tanky champs can either out sustain him, out damage him, or simply rape him in lane.
There's also the fact that unlike most tanks, Swain actually doesn't do well in long engagements since he'll go oom from his R. With the beefiness of the current meta, Swain usually runs oom and is useless by the time the other tanks are ramping up, like Darius.
