Iceborn gauntlet suggestion for Ap tanks

I'll start with the suggestion :

Iceborn Gauntlet

UNIQUE PASSIVE – ICY / SPELLBLADE: After using an ability, your next basic attack deals 125% base AD bonus physical damage to surrounding enemies and creates a field for 2 seconds that slows enemies inside by 30% (1.5 second cooldown).

=> UNIQUE PASSIVE – ICY / SPELLBLADE: After using an ability, your next basic attack deals 125% base AD bonus as magical damage to surrounding enemies and creates a field for 2 seconds that slows enemies inside by 25% (1.5 second cooldown) (stacks additively with slows from champion abilities).

When it says your next basic attack deals 125% base AD bonus as magical damage, I expect the full damage applied turned into magic damage (100% base ad + 125% bonus from base ad) just like poppy Q.

The magic damage and the "stacks additively with slows from champion abilities" parts are there to make this item better for tanks and not abused by fighters and marksmans (stacked with red buff mostly).

I think this item is supposed to freeze you in place but this power should be allowed only on tanks because it's what they are made for. Most tanks that would use IBG have a slow to proc it. It could be a decent counter for the "mobility creep" problem.

What do you guys think ?

Kind of confusing with all the fancy smancy things, could you summarize?

LordOfTheLeague1 votes

It would be the same as the current IBG with the proc + the auto attack that proc the spellblade deals magic damage and the slow would work additively with slows from champion spells. (slows stack multiplicatively in general)

So if you proc the icy/spellblade as sejuani and you use permafrost (rank 5 = 70% slow), the slow would be 70+25=95%.

The good part is that it's on the field (ground attached slow) only and not a targeted super slow so there is gameplay around it.

I think stacking the slow would be cool thing but a 25% slow stacked onto a 25% slow making a not so op ability op. maybe add like 15% or something?

LordOfTheLeague1 votes

Yes maybe. After doing some math, that would be a nerf for any slow lower than 50% (and any time without stacked slow). I think a 20% slow at least is needed.

Too broken in too many random cases.

Don't buff Blue Ezreal.

LordOfTheLeague1 votes

It wouldn't buff blue ezreal because ezreal doesn't have any slow.

The slow is still too high and dealing magic damage is basically always too good for him to pass up.

It'd have to be like 5% but increased to 30% if they had a slow on them as well, but that'd be too situational to be good.

The slow is nerfed and the magic damage wouldn't work with last whisper. I don't see how it would be a buff.

5% isn't much

Dealing magic damage is almost always better than dealing physical damage.

It's true but I don't think that change would break him since he has really low damage in my experience.

no, mf ult doing magic damage is garbage

MF ult doing physical damage while scaling with AP is garbage.

AD-scaling magic damage is good; AP-scaling magic damage is good; AD-scaling physical damage is good; AP-scaling physical damage sucks dick.

I guess you have a point for Black Cleaver, but for raw damage, MF's ult is better doing magic damage.

I forgot to ask, what are the random cases you are thinking about ?

Anybody who has any reason to build Gauntlet would be buffed.

Kassadin, GP, Malphite, Nautilus, just about anybody.

Well it's pretty much what I expected with the change, add to that list maybe skarner, gragas, maokai, seju and nasus. I still don't see the problem because most of this champs aren't played much and need help.

Sej doesn't need help. Nasus doesn't need help. Maokai sure as hell doesn't need help.

Well for the rest that need help the change would be worth to try.

And I want to say that the current IBG is better for no CC champs than tanks and I think it's unfortunate because it looks like the spellblade for tanks.

Maybe my suggestion is not balanced but there is work to be done.

It's good on a lot of tanks.

You can build it on just about any tank and do fine. It's a good option for anybody who likes Spellblade but needs a bit of armor with it.

Well I know that, I play nautilus with it but the CC part is lackluster because it will often be stacked with others slow (and stack multiplicatively) or with hard CC and lose his benefit.

My suggestion was just to make clear that this item is good for tanks and not "not that bad".

No item should be 100% core on a class just because it looks like it should go to the class.

If they have specific synergy with it now, they should build it.

If they don't, they can build it situationally or not at all.

LordOfTheLeague1 votes

A synergy is what you can see in my suggestion. The relation between tanks and live ibg is not a synergy‚ it's just not that bad.

Item is fine as is.

Magic damage tanks getting this gives them mixed damage so you can't itemize vs them easily.

J4 is the only listed AD tank. And he has an armor shred for his damage. Most AD tanks come with a form of armor shred or have mixed damage in their kits.

Pantheon is the only AD who is likely to build tanky that doesn't have an armor shred or a good source of mixed damage. But he aims to win the game before you have enough defenses for him to care about that.

I guess there's Aatrox too. But I don't think he counts for much in his current state.

It would actually exacerbate the mobility creep problem - only dashes can escape it.
