One tiny concern about the loss of runes and masteries

What is going to happen to the future meta of jungling?

Let's be honest, not all junglers were designed with the role of jungling. Graves and Vi were both designed for other roles but wound up in the jungle. Nidalee was never a jungler until her rework and that's because it was the only role she was close to playable in. Jax was more of a top forever but more recently became a more meta jungler.

One of the most important things about the current system is that runes let you specifically customize your champ, and of all the roles it's most important to the jungler. Junglers really need a specific rune page to function moreso than most other roles. With the current system going away and champions getting stat buffs on their current playstyles (hello meta enforcement) I really wonder how that is going to affect both new champs and reworks when it comes to jungle potential. I'm specifically thinking about the loss of stats we can assign based on the needs of what us the players want to do and being given buffs based on what riot thinks a champ should do.

I think it's a fair argument that the jungle meta is going to be more tightly controlled from here on out and that without the ability to have that AS and flat armor you need, it'll be more unlikely for a champ to be able to jungle because riot never intended it to happen. So unless riot specifically makes or reworks a champ with the jungle in mind, are we going to find fewer unintended junglers?

The flip side of this equation would be riot making the jungle so easy Soraka jungle could be meta one day followed by Draven jungle the next.

Already announced that base stats will be adjusted to compensate.

So Base stats include the nexus hp and fountain damage right? Hehexd.

there are going to be some junglers that cant just have a boost in their base stats for jungle, because they're good in lane.

Diana comes to mind. Buffing her base dmg or armor to let her jg, would probably make her too strong in lane.

I'm aware of that, and it's part of the concern.

For champs that can jungle and lane, do they buff based on the lane or the jungle if they have to make a choice? Moving forward how easy will be for a champ to find a new lane when they were designed with one in mind?

Riot is kinda forced to balance around the most OP role. Trying to balance around multiple roles becomes difficult, when nudging one role makes another broken. And people may find that they can get a champ's kit to work better in a specific position, regardless of the designers intention.

Unless Riot finds reason that a particular champ is oppressive in a particular role, they probably should allow the players decide how a particular champion should be played, and balance around that. (And you will find a small minority who are annoyed by such new directions.)

I think that you are over-simplifying the issue, but you do raise a good set of concerns here.

One of the biggest things about Jungle is that it has required you to adjust runes and masteries specifically to that playstyle, and I'm kind of glad to see that go (assuming it really does).

I don't mind some "meta enforcement," though. Champs are often only really removed from their typical lanes and roles when they are particularly oppressive somewhere else, and I think it's good to do something about that. I do see that it limits freedom. You aren't wrong about that. I think I just don't mind it as much as you seem to.

I would think that Graves can still just simply kite the mobs endlessly without issue, unfortunately.

'close to playable' wtf. Nida was THE dominant jungler for months.
