Dear laners: Stop showing the jungler you know he is going to gank

its a trap

As a jungler, a safe-playing laner is still a target when recklessness allows opportunity for me to gank a lane. Waiting for 20+ seconds for a kill is worth it in my mind as long as I'm not waiting ridiculously long. But..

It helps so much when they throw a spell at me while I'm in the bush

It does little to no damage, tells them "Hey, I see you!" and displays their cockiness "haha I know you're ganking" which is incredibly useful for me. I will just gank from the side or another bush since they think they have scared me off, or I go save myself some time and go farm when you could have pretended not to notice me and starved me of gold and both me and your laner of experience.

What to do instead

Pretend you don't notice the jungler. Keep throwing spells at your enemies, stepping nearly out of position, but not quite. Look risky, but not at risk. When the jungler heads away, do something riskier but yet nothing stupid.

Waste as much of his time as possible

He is a jungler. He has less resources available than a laner, so he is thirsty for kills. You are the holy grail of gold. Instead of telling him to go away, pretend that you don't see him so he starves himself staring at you wishing he could kill you.

i personally just go in immediately when i gank a lane so even if they have wards, theres not much they can do esp. if my laner goes in. i never wait for more than 5s in a bush

what if you just want him to leave, because his presence is zoning you from cs? or its a bluff, because you show him you expect him to dive and you know hed succeed, because your own jungler is on the other side map doing one of his camps. but he doesnt know and expects a countergank, so he leaves. what then?

Let him zone you, use your abilities to cs if you can. Do you know how starved the jungler already is? At 2.5 minutes, the laner should have about 400 gold and not at risk if playing safely, while the jungler is still struggling through his jungle with about 200 gold. Starve the jungler, he will be useless.

I show the jungler we know he's going to gank because I expect him to waste more time on trying to come from a different angle. If a jungler come from the river, I throw a spell to tell him we know, if the jungler come back lane side, we are already playing safe at that point because we know the jungler is bot side. If he's in the lane waiting for an opportunity, opportunity that he won't get because we are playing safe, he's effectively stealing his own bot lane XP, giving us an advantage. Especially considering it's easy to tell that a jungler is going to gank from the lane if the bot lane start clearing out minions to cut vision from the lane bushes.

After years of getting 4 man tower dove at bot lane, I learned to predict where and when a gank is gonna happen.

If you throw a spell at him and he's not stubborn he just goes back to farming to utilize more resources. If he spends him time ganking 24/7 he will fall way behind in resources and it shouldn't matter if he succeeds half his ganks anyways since he will be so far behind. If you are bot lane I could see it making sense because in reality if your jungler was top and he was bot then he could just escort you away from the minions applying a ridiculous amount of pressure bot, yet still he wastes his resources and drains his fellow laner's experience.

I think it's just better to waste their time. There was a support main streamer, I forgot the name, who played engaging supports like leona and blitz and upon seeing an enemy jungler waiting to gank in an unknowingly warded bush would launch an engage and miss just barely and walk a little bit too close and keep screwing with the enemy jungler and it was just a fun game to him. The "waste the enemy jungler's time" game or something like that. I find it's better to starve the enemy jg if he isn't stubborn and going to attack you from 3 different angles.

Bad Jungler: someone who constantly reminds you he is in the jungle for a reason (Farm) Good Jungler: You forget we was the Jungler [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Although it feels great when the jungler ganks so much, if your laners aren't good enough to successfully gank then you wasted his time and your experience. If you burn a flash and nothing happens in lane, you wasted his time. 5 camps are worth more than a kill, give more experience, are less risky, and waste less time.

And let me guess: You do not main jungle? He is in fact in the jungle because he needs to utilize correct and efficient resource allocation. That's why there is no duo top. If you forget he was the jungler then he was practically duo with another lane. aka "camping". It works against bad players.

the reason you dont feign ignorance is because, unless you have a counter jungle on the way, its better just to poke the enemy jungler into giving up on the gank.

Why? Is there a reason you don't want him staying in that bush? If the lane is in the middle at mid or more towards your tower, you suffer no risk trying to starve the enemy jungle. You can still cs. Nothing is stopping you unless you're an unholily aggressive player.

I think that's good advice for top lane, because usually the champion pool up there can easily survive a gank.

Bot lane is a different story. I've learned to never trust my ADC to be able to make it out without wasting a flash or heal as a support main. I immediately signal to step back a bit. Not only that, but we usually lose more CS when the Jungler could gank us at any moment.

In low ELO people are crazy. I've been dived, as a Janna support, by the enemy team at around level 3 and gotten a triple kill.

Recognize your enemy is probably messy as hell if you're Gold and below. Sometimes their messy behavior catches players off guard and they snag a kill. I've seen that happen as well. Playing it safe when your early game is crap is usually a good idea.

Generally good advice, though I wouldn't put it down as a hard rule.

In general, you don't want the jungler to know that you know that they are there.

The exception is when you think they are going to dive you or otherwise force a gank that you don't think you can survive if they try. In that case, showing them that you know they are there can often scare them off and avoid the situation.
