Do you have anything against FoTM players?

FoTM stands for, of course, flavor of the month. FoTM players pick up the items, champions or any certain trends that are strong in the current meta or patch simply because they are strong in this current meta or patch or perhaps their favorite LCS player picked them.

Hate FoTM players: They are trying to carry themselves out of their elo using champions instead of skill. They aren't actually good.

Like FoTM players: They are just trying to win and strengthening the current meta by playing the certain picks instead of picking terribly off-meta troll picks

What do you think?

Hate is too strong, but I do dislike them. Only because they make games stale and boring seeing the same champion over and over again. Not as a person though.

I hate them, like seriously, when Syndra became fotm I had a bunch of people telling me how to play her. Like seriously, a few were pretty helpful yes, but the rest were just noise about crap I already knew/wasn't even that good.

In ranked, no. You do everything you can to win, including picking what's currently the strongest for your role. Hell, I'm guilty of that one, even used to buy overpowered champions to (ab)use them in order to climb more reliably.

In normals? Hell yes. Rengar, Lee, Jhin, Kennen and company in every goddamn game. And that's supposed to be the game mode where people practice and have fun. Bonus points if it's blinds and you keep ending up with FOTM mirror matches all the time.

And I play normals 99% of the time because ranked is pure cancer. So FOTM players can go fuck themselves.

I honestly hate these FOTM players for the following reasons:

  1. They usually suck, because they don't MAIN the FOTM champion, the lack of experience generally makes FOTM players terrible mechanically.
  2. They make games super boring, like having rengar in normal blind pick EVERY FUCKING GAME is not fun.
  3. They don't consider situations begore picking champions. Facing a caitlyn? instantly locks vayne because vayne is fotm. team has 0 knock up? picks yasuo anyways because yasuo is fotm.
  4. They don't change their build according to the situation. Enemy full ad? Rushes spirit visage anyways because that is just how the big streamer build it.

I don't hate or judge FotM bandwagoners until they start bragging about how "good" they are. If you're just following a bandwagon champ and/or build, you don't get to crow about your victory without being a douche.

obviously they are players who think about team composition and pick according to what they think is good for the team and also strong.

they may not win their lane against mr. fiora one-trick guy but he won't snowball off them either and they will cause a composition that will outscale him.

At the end of the day they are no more and no less strong than any other player of the same Elo, just have different mechanisms behind their strength.

there are merits to both approaches, i don't fault them.

P.S. mr. fiora one trick: win your lane, lose game, much ?

As a onetrick player ( i am seriously like 2 divs worse on everything thats not riven or fiora) I think a fotm player must be pretty hard, adjusting every few weeks to play a new champ, I couldnt do it. It would make climbing harder for me. I dont hate or love them but I am a bit jelly that it works for them. ( Hell yeah would i like to abuse bullshit freeelo like syndra dude but I just seem to be able to press r with her...meanwhile I autowin games as riven)
