Please please please tell me VIP system is a dumb prank

Note: This rant is going under the assumption that the WeChat post said rant is based off of is true, if it proves to be a joke/lie then the content is irrelevant and everyone have a nice day

Now then:

I may get downvoted to oblivion for "overreaction" (wouldn't be the first time), hell I might get a forum ban at worst (I'll be sad if it does though and hope it doesn't happen) but this must be said!

DO NOT LET LEAGUE BECOME PAY2WIN!!!!! According to the WeChat post regarding TengXun/TenCent (A chinese game company) buying out Riot, a next major content update will include a VIP system

For those who don't believe Riot's been bought out, here's the prooft: http://www.wsj.com/articles/tencent-acquires-full-control-of-u-s-based-riot-games-1450342769

I do not have the WeChat message on me because this is from my cousin's subscription (if a kind WeChat reader would please figure a way to link and translate the post I'd appreciate it), but going off of my cousin's translation:

Pay X dollars of real money (unspecified amount yet) to get: 1000 gold at the start of the match Double Flash 50% extra damage on ignite 50% MORE Armor/MR (dafuq)

This is just the in-game stuff, outside of the game you can get:

Double XP/IP (meh for people like me with all champs) NEVER GET BANNED FOR ANYTHING, this means you can be toxic and troll all you want and never run the risk of being banned Fancy colors for your chat messages Special skins and icons Every month, get a 4x IP boost Every month, get a free skin of your choice Priority Queue times Free skin at "max level" (This one is a bit confusing to me)

I mean, in spite of all the hatred about league balance from various parts of the community, I ask everyone, unite against this corrupt VIP system!

exhale alright, I will watch for someone to link the WeChat article so I can post in OP and/or take the downvotes. Bring it

There's no way they'd do this in a game, it would immediately kill the whole player base. That would be so massively pay to win that nobody who didn't pay the money would play the game. I'm willing to bet actual play of the game would drop to no more than 10% of what it currently is if this went through.

The next batch of stuff, I couldn't doubt would be possible aside from the ban immunity.

why does everyone on these forums have such an enormous persecution complex

Blue Socialist1 votes

because acknowledging that they'll be downvoted for being crazy makes them not crazy. Obviously.

WutsKraken1 votes

Does everyone? I bring it up because I fully expect a lot of hate because I made a crazy claim without tangible evidence because I'm clueless about how to get WeChat working

If this was real, we'd have heard about it. There isn't a VIP system.

WutsKraken1 votes

There isn't a system now, it's just a concept which hopefully gets buried. I'm just here to bring attention

Attention to what? You're inventing a problem...

Icestar11863 votes

What I mean is if they were going to implement such a thing, we would be told. I highly doubt that it will happen and frankly, I think this thread is unjustified. If you cannot provide proof of this VIP program, I would advise people not to worry about it.

Yeah... you're just taking the bait from trolls, man. Also, gullible is written on the ceiling above you. XD

WutsKraken1 votes

If you own WeChat, just go ahead and check for LoL content

ModKnightsKemplar3 votes

Nah, best way to avoid trolls is to not even bother, man. You're just getting trolled. Nothing more. Downvoting all the posts that inform you about this won't change it.

WutsKraken1 votes

What downvotes? I haven't touched any of the posts here besides replying to them

did you actually read the article you linked? Do you know the difference between 93% ownership and 100% ownership of a company?

Serevas1 votes

Did you read it?

"Before the deal, Tencent owned a 93% stake in Riot."

Meaning now the new deal was the purchase of the remaining 7% of the company. You can also come to the realization of 100% control from the sub heading.

"Chinese Internet giant buys shares it didn’t already down in developer of popular ‘League of Legends’"

Again you are missing the point they were saying. As far as when law and anything legal is aware of. Tencent already owned them. 93% and 100% is nothing different since its majority rule when it comes to decisions. That 7% could say no to anything Tencent's 93% says to do and they wouldn't be able to stop them. Tencent probably just bought them out entirely so they are the only ones that make money from LEague.

Serevas1 votes

No they actually failed to make that point at all, in fact they neglected to go anywhere near that point at all aside from an additional post later on.

Hard to miss a point that's never even approached let alone made.

Frankly the whole thing is irrelevant to begin with, Tencent owns a lot of companies and they typically have a rather hands off approach to managing said companies allowing them to have their own autonomy. I think a don't fix what isn't broken philosophy is largely what they do.

WutsKraken1 votes

Do you read that they had 93% before the deal? Now they own all holdings

KillerPenguins1 votes

My point was there's effectively no difference from a legal standpoint.

can you link the article? i can google trans it

WutsKraken1 votes

It's a WeChat article. I don't actually have it and I'm read it off my cousin's phone. Do you have it?

To be fair, the ingame bonuses I agree would be bad, but the other stuff I feel is fine. You can already buy ip/xp boosters so those are nothing fancy. Colored text is just cosmetic, having special skins just for a special package isn't nothing negative since it just cosmetic and it would be nice to see some rarer skins.

The only one that is bad is the ban immunity, that one wouldn't happen since Tencent even if a lot of people hate them, aren't stupid. They may be more lenient perhaps but they are a business, they know that allowing toxic people around will cause people to leave the game, which effects their profits. They aren't one of the largest businesses around for no reason after all, they know what they are doing.

WutsKraken1 votes

Boosts are meh because they already exist I agree

I dislike the other parts

There's a reason I'm hoping it was a joke. Now if only it were possible to link wechat articles so the other folks here who apparently don't own wechat would actually see what I'm talking about

do you believe everything you read on the internet?
