Please recommend some champions I can use to climb ranked based on my playstyle.

I tend to be the type that wants to play the least played or underrated champions. I also like to experiment with unique strats just to see if it can be done. It's actually hard for me to sit down and just say I'm playing a single champion with the best build so I can gain rank. I tend to get bored doing that. Probably because I had no hand in discovering it's OPness through trial and error.

Having said that, I've decided I want to try my hand at figuring out which champion gives me the best winrates, and I've started my quest by trying the highest winrate champs and using what appear to be the highest winrate builds.

I would guess from who I am paired with in unranked that I am coming out of silver into gold as I start to play more to win instead of just to experiment.

My results so far seem to suggest that Jungle is my preferred role. Second being top. Reasons:

  1. Mid. I tend to prefer midlaners that are max AP artillery pieces like viktor, xerath, azir, etc. I like to dominate lane, siege; and counter siege. But this doesnt always work out best I think at this elo. My ability to help other lanes with ganks is more limited compared with more assassin oriented mids. I do enjoy talon, but if I can't snowball off picks then there is a risk of losing late game in teamfights. I do enjoy mobile skirmishers that have to use a lot of tactics like Ekko and Ahri, but I don't find them to be my most effective in terms of winrate. I tried Annie because she has a high winrate, but she just doesn't work well for me. I don't think she fits my style for whatever reason. I really like Kassadin for his kill pressure potential and tactical options, but I just am not getting the winrates I need with him, probably because I feel limited in teamfights without strong initiation and support. I do realize that at this elo I need something that scales well into the late game because its hit or miss whether my team knows how to pick off objectives, so we can't expect to end with a mid game advantage. I think mid doesnt work for me because I am too vulnerable to getting ganked and it's hit or miss whether I have a competent jungler who can return the favor.

  2. Jungle. I cant depend on my team to not feed while I farm up. I need to be able to make an early impact but still scale well into late game as a carry. Jungle gives me the most ability to do this. I like junglers that have strong gank options like Quinn and Aurelion sol. I want to like Skarner because he has a high winrate, but i am not getting the best results with him. I think he doesn't scale as well into mid and late game for me because i feel more like a one trick pony in teamfights, and my team cant always capitalize on my grabs by focus firing them before they are released. I do fairly well with Sejuani but think her ganking early game can be weak and late game if I build full tank I feel like I depend too much on my team for success. I dont do well with Amumu for some reason. Even though he has a high winrate maybe his kit just doesn't reasonate with my style. Quinn is great but my main problem is she falls off late game. If I cant pick and split push but am forced to teamfight with her then I'm at a major disadvantage. I do well with Aurelion sol. He has good ganks and late game but doesnt come online as quick as others. vi can be fun but doesnt work the best for me. Udyr was treat as a split pusher for me before they nerfed him. i havent tried him yet since.

  3. Top. I do like top because I can focus on winning lane and helping mid. I also like to split push because it puts me in the drivers seat of pushing the agenda in our favor, regardless of whether my team is competent. My problem with top lane is that unless I win my lane early I can get stuck unable to help my team, which means they might feed and throw the game before I can start making an impact. For top I like Quinn and Kayle. Theoretically I would like Jayce and Heimer if they were stronger. Yas has potential, but I am not yet that good with him, and I tend not do best with all-in style fighters. I to prefer champions that give me more control over dictating the terms of engagement, whether it be mobility, range, cc, survivability, or a combination of those.

  4. I would love to play support. Braum, Sona, Thresh. I enjoy the tactical considerations of how to be a force multiplier for my team. Problem is, I can't trust my team to be able to carry and push objectives enough so that my support matters. I can feel trapped doing my best but trying to help an incompetent adc. I have gotten good winrates with sona and soraka, but sometimes I feel chained to a team that only knows how to repeatedly charge midlane looking for teamfights, wishing I was on a hero that could go split push or take dragon. Instead im stuck babysitting.

  5. ADC. This role just doesn't appeal to me much. Although I enjoy the back and forth of laning, Too many if the takes variables are out of my control. There are too many ways the game can go belly up before I can get enough farm to come online.

So far my favorite has been Quinn for her early ganks and mid game split push. I enjoy her more tactical style. The problem is that if it goes late game and we are forced to teamfight then I often can't find the openings I need to make an impact. I might have to switch to Aurelion sol jungle just so I can have more late game assurance. But I am open to trying anything else that can carry from silver to gold.

Galio

can be played mid/top/sup.

sup is the least reliable but hes disgusting when you harass the enemy ADC, and health from a sightstone is still decent, just take some MR runes and you're good to go. those level 6 engages.... just dumb, free double kill every time, no contest. no1 is building QSS first item.

top is super cancerous, either you put your enemy into the ground or you just farm safely from a distance, its quite difficult to gank a galio with his W and E still available. in addition he still has great wave clear and last hitting.

mid is still prefered as it gives him the best access to join up with the team and be a true hero with a flash R play.

I'd say the first step is to fix your bronze mentality and then go from there

I'm not in bronze. Your comment doesn't help without specifics.

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD! ITS TIME! After reading what you have said, literally all of these things you like appear in Velkoz. He has a decent early due to his high bases so that you can help snowball your team, good wave lead with his W, and extremely complex gameplay due to trying to juggle enemies while kitting away with you skills. He can be played very successfully support due to decent bases and high overall damage after 6. The only problem is mana costs, but that gets better after lost chapter is purchased. I think that Vel koz would be a great fit for you (he is even underplayed as requested)

He is actually one of the mids that have preferred in the past because I like long ranged artillery and lane dominance through poke.

The reason I don't consider him a good performer for me is the same reason I turned away from Viktor and Xerath: They fall off late game and I don't feel like they have the mobility I need to carry games without a strong team to get behind. I depend very much on being able to follow around one or two people on my team who can initiate and peel for me, and if I don't get a team with someone who can set the tempo of the match effectively then I feel limited in what I can do to contribute.

Teamfighting ability and objective prioritization has gotten better as I've been climbing, but I still don't feel like I'm at the point where I can trust my team to do their job well enough that I can play the role of fire support to them.

I really don't think VIKTOR or Vel koz fall of lategame, due to viktor's wave clear and vel's true damage ult and passive, and vel's cc is enough to get away from almost anyone if you are good enough

According to League of Graphs Vel Koz falls off steeply around 30 minutes.

Viktor's results vary with elo, but he definitely fairs much better and doesn't fall off as much in silver and gold, but his fall off never recovers and continues down hill to 50 minutes . He falls off a lot in diamond after 35 minutes but spikes as you get closer to 45-50 minutes. Platinum, for some reason, shows him only falling off a little bit but also spiking at the end.

This shows me that VIktor has some unique late game power spikes if you know how to play him and have a team that can protect him.

The problem with playing him in gold or less in my experience has been that it's too easy for you to get dived, your team can't protect you, and you can't carry by yourself. You might only get one shot at unloading your abilities before the teamfight is over so you not only need to be great at placing them but your team really needs to be able take advantage of them when you do. But if you can land them, they can have a great impact in terms of damage and CC.

I do pretty well with viktor, and enjoy him a lot. Unfortunately at this point I'm just not getting the winrates I get with ganking junglers or split pushing tops that give me more direct control over the flow of the game.

I suspect once I get to higher elo I will enjoy playing mages and supports more. Those tend to be my natural preference in games like this, but I tend to now enjoy it as much unless I'm teamed with people who know how to play their own roles.

Olaf top/Jungle. Essentially a super fast juggernaut hypercarry if he gets going and builds properly.

Leona Jungle ...very specific strategies to make this work...once you hit diamond your team has to defend you during first clear to be viable vs strong early junglers. Ask if interested. SUPER, EXTREMELY POWERFUL IF YOU GET PAST FIRST CLEAR.

Amumu Jungle ...not as common as you'd think

Chogath Jungle...again, ask

Diana Top (jungle's not as good)

Fiddlesticks

Garen Top; jungle might be viable if HP is rushed, since E was changed to deal full damage to monsters. Strat would pretty much to be ghost in + Q, dive to let laner all-in and kill while you tank, then go regen+clear. Haven't tried jungle, probably not reliable at all, but might be fun if you ever get rolling before laning is over.

Fizz top/jungle; not super effective, but still works.

Galio Top vs any AP top. He ends up VERY strong while building mostly defensive due to his massive base damages and W making him un-killable.

Karthus Top/jungle

JarvanIV anywhere

Irelia jungle; slow first clear, becomes extremely quick after.

Kennen top

Kayle anywhere

Rumble top/jungle..ask about jungle. Skin is required.

DrMundo anywhere

Maokai

Rammus

Mordekaiser

Morgana top/mid

Poppy

Pantheon

Skarner He's insanely strong atm, but still underrated. You mention trouble with him; I can offer plenty of advice #SkarnerMain

Nocturne same

Udyr

Urgot

Varus mid (artillery)

Volibear top vs melees

MonkeyKing

XinZhao

Zac insanely strong if the team isn't loaded with displacements (including self)

All of these champions are VERY strong if played properly, but some are very ineffective vs certain things, or are just not popular enough to be noticed.

If you're high elo gold+ then pls play Heim, Trynd and Teemo so that high elo players understand how annoying they are to play against.
