Patch 5.16 Notes

There are a few things worth mentioning in the released patch notes about Mordekaiser that are worth mentioning (if these are 100% accurate)

W: The DoT damage as been increased capping at 300 instead of 280 for both Morde and his ally. The AP modifier is missing. This can be seen as a weird neutral change that is more positive than negative in my opinion. Yes if you go Full AP (~300AP) you would receive a damage nerf because the original .6*AP modification would give you more damage than the 40, but this requires that you go heavily into AP, which takes away from more durable stats. With the +80 damage overall you don't have itemize AP as much and can focus on HP and AD which is still converted into magic damage. The healing takes a bit of a hit, but it was designed to be used on multiple targets so not that big of a loss.

Overall its a damage nerf, but a QOL and itemization buff.

Losing a lot of base stats in favor of scaling. Attack Range increased. HEAVY AND METAL Recommended items updated MOVEMENT SPEED 340 ⇒ 325 BASE HEALTH 555 ⇒ 525 HEALTH GROWTH STAT 73 ⇒ 80 BASE ATTACK DAMAGE 57.5 ⇒ 61 ATTACK DAMAGE GROWTH STAT 3.5 ⇒ 5 ATTACK SPEED GROWTH STAT 2.6 ⇒ 3 HEALTH REGEN 3.3 ⇒ 4 HEALTH REGEN GROWTH STAT 0.67 ⇒ .3 ATTACK RANGE 125 ⇒ 200

Take notice that based on these numbers his attack speed is back to normal and the AS growth has been buffed. This is obviously a buff!. Given the missing AP modification on W and the removal of his AS nerf he is now a mace swinging monster that should be built to support that.

His health regen looks like an overall neutral change leaning more towards a nerf, but given the potential focus on non-AP items base health regen items will favor Morde much more heavily balancing his base regen because of it.

These are weird changes that completely change many important aspects of Morde. The power of his original PBE W made building items on him weird because you were sacrificing either W damage or durability somewhere based on which direction you wanted to go. At face value these change seem to be working in resolving those issues.

For a little background on what I mean by this issue is that if you wanted to maximize his PBE W you needed item 3116 item 3078 and another AP or two AP items if you want to forego item 3078 . Because of this you lose AD which boosts his other two skills and probably aren't building tanky hp either because of how most AP items are designed sans item 3151 . If you go the opposite direction you lose the power of W.

Removing the AP modifier and bumping the base damage up you play a safe middle ground that takes away the need for another AP item or two, allowing you to focus on more power overall.

I am interested to see what his recommended items are now, because Titanic Hydra might slightly out perform Sterak's as you aren't splitting your itemization focus.

Quite a keen eye you have there. Would've never spotted that myself.

If they reverted him back to .694 base with that new scaling item 3124 is back in a big way. Top tier AS profile with the highest possible AD base and scaling in the game is going to be nasty. Puts him at odds with a max CDR build since he can hit 2 attacks per second with 2 items.
