What do you think on critical strike ballance?

Knight SoIaire ··1 votes·827 views

im asking everyone to just say what they think because this one mechanic is what makes entire adc role the center of the game and basicaly any heavy autoatacker at least viable

what do you think ? should crits get a slight nerf, a slight buff, or remain untouched ?

also for anyone who will touch the subject of crits being random please get out and make a thread about it by yourself (since we already have enough)

crits can't be balanced unless they are not random. although they are calculated with "pseudo-rng", it's still rng

Is critical strike balanced.

Honestly, no, I don't think it is. But it's in such a place that simple buffs or nerfs won't fix the problem. Crit is meant to be a powerful late game stat that prevents tanks from running amok (meta golem). However it's proven to be an incredibly strong stat against most classes late game. Even if you reduced the damage some, you'd need to provide a means for ADC to get around the armor stacking of tanks without providing the same benefit to every other physical damage dealer.

That sounds more like the goal of armor penetration or %hp damage. Crit is just a damage multiplier. I don't see why a straight damage multiplier is meant to work against tanks more than anyone else. Seems like more damage is the answer to everyone, not just tanky champions.

Well, you don't want them to be completely ineffective against non-tanky champs. You also want to be careful about adding too much % hp damage as it would make tanks less effective which you really don't want to hurt too hard.

Yeah, and crit is how you make them not completely ineffective against squishy champions, because it works against any champion. Crit is just more damage, without anything really aimed at tanks. Crit isn't the late game stat to prevent tanks from running amok. It's just the late game stat for doing lots of damage in general.

if we look at this like that i must agree with you over Kuroi86 crit multiplies damage instead of countering damage mitigation main purpose of tanky itemization is reducing the damage taken instead of simply making your hp bar longer

which leads us to a conclusion where crit is actualy more effective vs squishies than tanks (tank has armour so crit without lw wont do that much while squishy guys will cry to the sheer numbers of your ad multiplied by 2.5)

so while it may seem to be equaly effective vs everything the real icing on the cake we dont consider is last whisper ... otherwise tanks shrug an adc like he is a minion and honestly its easy to see in game if your sample build is ie+ vamp scept+ crit item+last whisper+finished lifesteal item and ga (ofc boots somewhere) and you would skip the last whisper over bloodthirster or guardian angel you would totaly lose any impact mid game since enemy frontline gives no damn about your crits as long as you dont gave that blue bow

which leads me to another point which i didnt see before adc's itemization is so fked up that its impossiible to ballance it as it stands -they have their almoust exclusive stat allowing them to outdamage anyone else without paying with mana or whatever -they have one tanks removing item and can follow it up by second tank removing item if it works with the specific champion (im not a fan of botrk on caitlyn) -they are 100% forced into offensive with maybe 2 defensive options (ga if they delete me fast, banshee if they cc me from a far) which puts their ballance around being able to outrun you while dealing damage or straight out remove you -and on top of the last point their items scale with themselves meaning that the have barely any diversity (the onlyy diversity is picking a triforce or blue ez), simpl put they lose insane amounts of power if they take items that arent meant for them

those are sewere design problems which kinda kill diversity as much among items as champions (they do the same thing and buy the same items so in s4 it was easy to conclude that lucian does everything better which resulted in nerf storm to oblivion, and many adc's shared his fate before)

From a balance point of view, it's fine. It serves as a damage multiplier to autoattacks, allowing for significant sustained dps. It does the job well, and requires significant investment into AD and attack speed to be rewarding. For numbers alone, I'd say it's fine.

ever seen a tryndamere with the crit glove and crit runes? holy hell, dat 50% crit rate at lvl1... win lane faster than they can flash away

Sightless661 votes

Yup, I've seen it. Seen it cheese a couple people. Won against it, playing a Doran's Blade Trynd (why I let my friends take me into blind pick and mirror matchups is beyond me). He was so pissed. All-chat blaming the jungler for a level 1 lane loss. I love those games.

With as much crit as he naturally gets, early AD is actually a better damage boost until your Q starts getting levels.

If Crits ignored armor instead of dealing double damage this would be true.

But they don't.

Crits dealing bonus damage on top of %Pen means that everyone evaporates, including champion types that are supposed to be counters to glass DPS.

That's an interesting idea.

Crits ignoring armor. I kind of like that idea.

It would allow ADCs to grind down hard targets without them totally evaporating soft ones that are supposed to counter them. A good idea, if you ask me. It would also effectively remove two layers of auto-attack multiplication (crit chance and crit damage) which would require reworking pretty much every single ADC kit to push them in more of a ranged AD caster (or Mage in some cases) way.

Making the game focus a little less on who right clicks the hardest would be a good thing, IMO.

Crit in my mind is a necessary evil. Its a damage multiplier that insure dps>tankiness. The fact that its random means the stat is not favorable on champs like Riven or Zed who can easily break damage stats. Kinda like how Vladimir ruined spell vamp for every other mage. So only ranged champs can safely gamble for crits. Now everyone complains about the plight of tanks and how an adc can kill them in 3 secs. The reason i don't buy this is if an adc can kill your tank in 3 secs he could kill the rest of your team in that same time with how fed they must be. Some adc's burst faster than assassins and this is the problem. ADCs SHOULD bust tanks. Mages and assassins can't burst them so someone has to kill them. The problem is assassins get bursted easily by lucky crits too. How to fix? Honestly don't know this is just my two cents on crit. I know in pokemon crits ignore attack reductions or defence buffs. That could be interesting.

Oh just a note. I don't think crit is even close to the reason adcs are so powerful. Ever noticed how in a teamfight if you kill the enemy adc and jungler yet lose the fight the enemy team can really do anything with the kill? Adcs are powerful because League is objective focused. You can accrue a large gold advantage but if you have fewer towers/dragons/barons you are at a disadvantage. Adcs take towers quickly and safely from a distance. They have high dps for taking early dragons. Supports are bot lane not to protect the adc but to give early dragon control. Objectives are the name of the game and as long as adcs build dmg and are ranged they will be meta no matter how they are nerfed or reworked.

The problem with crits is IE. The mechanic itself isn't great due to being (pseudo) random, but it's the fact that IE is hyper efficient and such a massive damage increase is the real issue. Don't expect any changes to it though, because then Riot's itemization team might have to actually do work.
