#-------------------------------THE FACTS & THE SPECULATION-------------------------------

You might already known they are testing an item on the PBE that grants you Mana & Cooldown Reduction currently listed with the placeholder name "Mana Gem". In the current testing it suppose to become a resource counterpart for item 3067.

The current intention of the item is that it build into another AP item for mages. Currently listed as "Mana Item (Item 3053)". With the current build from "Mana Gem" + item 1058:

#Mana Item (Item 3053)

  • **Recipe: **Mana Gem + Needlessly Large Rod + 550g = 3000g
  • Stats: Grants ability power, mana and cooldown reduction.
  • PASSIVE - EXPANDED MIND: Increases maximum mana by X%, and generates stacks of Insight whenever mana is expended (X conversion rate), up to X stacks (X% of maximum Mana).
  • ACTIVE - MANA BURST: Release a shockwave, consuming all stacks of Insight. Enemies hit by the shockwave are dealt X (+ X% AP) magic damage. Allies hit by the shockwave restore X mana.

Based on the name that is mentioned in the passive (insight) it was intented as a replacement for item 3003 probaly making an end to the item 3070 road. However this was like 3 patches ago this item was included to the pbe for testing. And right now their was not a single annoucement the item in the real deal. Mandrake Ward has been announced serveral times but the fact they didn't even came up with a name arround this time. I'm seriously wondering whe will ever see this item in the game.

It feels like "Item 3053" release could be a shocker in the eye of ballance towards a lot of people. But the fact they are currently dropping "Mana Gem (Item 3052)" would be a pity. If the item really goes through. Their are a lot of applications towards this change:

#------------------------------THE APPLICATIONS (Suggestions)------------------------------

#item 3110 Frozen Heart

  • **Recipe: ** item 3082 + "Mana Gem" + 550g = 2450g (total cost unchanged)
  • Stats: Unchanged

#[no image] Item A

#item 3025 Iceborn Gauntlet

  • **Recipe: ** item 3057 + "Item A" + 500g = 2900g (total cost unchanged)
  • Stats: Grants ability power, mana and armor. (so unchanged besides the removal of the cooldown reduction)
  • PASSIVE: +5% Movementspeed

#[no image] Item B

If Item 3053 doesn't make the test rounds

  • **Recipe: ** item 3105 + "Mana Gem" + 150g = 2900g
  • Stats: Grants health, magic resistance, mana and cooldown reduction.
  • UNIQUE AURA - LEGION
  • ACTIVE - MANA BURST: Release a shockwave. Enemies hit by the shockwave are dealt X (+ X% AP) magic damage. Allies hit by the shockwave restore X mana.

#-----------------------------------THE BALLANCE AFTER-----------------------------------

Offcourse with an change like this. Some champion will indirectly get a buff with this. Champions that scale with mana or naturaly benefit from it like: Blitzcrank Evelynn Kassadin Nami Soraka Ryze Urgot. Actualy where in the perfect environment to release a change like this right now. Mostly because most champions on this list recently got reworked or are planned to get a rework in the near future.

#--------------------------------------------------END--------------------------------------------------

Well that's it for this topic. Discuss

I don't think it is meant as a replacement, item 3003 has an easy, delayed build path, while item 3053 uses item 1058 and gives emediate power. Also Archangel has permanent mana charge, while 3053 has temporary mana charge.

they are simmilar, but too different to be a complete replacement for each other, much like item 3072 and item 3153 or item 3508 and item 3004

it's meant as an item to compliment scaling mages, karthus, cassio, mid lane ryze, they all love having this and a tear and a rod of ages. and then they can spam their low CD spells so crazy damage.

They were experimental internal items that should never have made it to the PBE.

rick maher ‏@ricklessabandon @moobeat oh, weird. i'll clean that up. those are partial files for the 'mana gem' and 'mana item' that accidentally shipped a while back…
