The Server Change Crippled My Games

Hi, I've been playing League since Azir came out (about a year ago). I started playing Skarner Jungle, because farming was the only thing I felt confident doing at the time. Now, I'm queued with silvers and golds despite not playing ranked (no complaints, I still have fun and win games). I enjoy my main positions, Jungle, Support, and ADC. I live in Washington State, so games sat at a VERY comfortable 53 ping. When the server change was announced, I was worried that I would be getting the same high ping that the East Coast has been forced to suffer through for years. At first it stayed at a smooth 101 ping; I was perfectly content with that! +50 ping isn't the end of the world, and it's worth it if the rest of the continent is getting a similar speed.

That 101 ping is rarer than first impressions deemed, as 80% of my games are spent with 200 ping with constant spikes of up to 14,000. I once played a very good Rek'Sai, and could gank early-game reliably. Now those ganks are impossible to pull off, as is me playing any champion that takes any measure of skill. I struggle against lag more-so than against my opponents, which is NOT what the server change was supposed to accomplish.

Conclusion: I'm writing this not just to complain, but to propose a solution. With the Season 6 preseason being JUST around the corner, prepare... You are still in possession of the Portland server, so get it online. There is no need to pour money into it, as it would no longer be carrying the whole continent on its back. Turn it online, and create an NA East and West. Europe has less players in it and yet, it has been split for a long while. Please Riot, help me to help you by enjoying your game once more.

I agree. My "average" went from 40-60 to 80-90, roughly. That I could deal with. But most games I am sitting at 400 ping with massive spikes over 1000, frequently. The game is no longer enjoyable because its impossible to play like that. I pretty much know IMA lose lane and be a worthless button masher in team fights.

Other games have solved these kind of old and basic issues, I can't believe Riot can't figure it out.

It's not that they can't figure it out, it's that they thought that the server change would even out the ping differential. In reality it just reversed which coast has horrible ping.

I can't even imagine how bad Alaska and Hawaii's ping must be.

I live in Vancouver, physically farther than Washington state and my ping only increased by 10

Well, you're in Vancouver, 90% of us don't possess Fiber-optic, city-speed Wifi.

Duo servers would split ranked teams. No thanks.

You could still play with those on the other side, but you would be on different servers. Other games do it, why can't we?

The lag spikes and such are not due to distance.

I live in Indiana, and days drive away from the New server at best. My ping sits at 40ish average now, but nearly every game I will get massive spikes hitting up to 2-300 and every so often 1000+

I didn't have that problem with the old server, sure my old ping was higher but at least it was at a stable level and playable.

Im not sure this is a problem with distance but a problem with the server of with how the connections for it are being handled.
