Can we make Trundle viable again?
Especially trundle top, the champion has a cool design and kit but he's so damn weak.

I strongly agree. I mained him in the jungle for a while and I'm still bummed out that he got dumpstered.
the champion has a cool design
Budum, tsh?
Yep I see him lock in on my team and its a 100% dodge.
There are too many champs that are just auto attack and click Q>E wait 8s if not dead click Q>E
I understand why Riot has been "Overloading" the new champs/reworks. Its to stop the Tundle/Jax/Tryn/ChickeDyr play styles where you really dont do anything but stand there pressing 2 buttons while auto attacking.
Trundle will literally ALWAYS be viable. So long as Front to back teamfighting exist Trundle's ultimate will always have a place in this game no matter what the numbers on the rest of his kit are. Thats why people literally play him support as a R and E bot and just abuse his crazy utility. Single handedly destroying the enemies team strategem at the click of a button will never NOT be relevant. I promise you the only "buff" this champ needs is the return of tank champions to the meta instead of this diver centric one-shot nonsense we have now.
also his kit really isn't cool. Its LITERALLY in the truest sense of the word just "stat checking" you.
His Q reduces YOUR attack damage while increasing his own. his W boost his Attack Speed,Movement Speed and regeneration effects (which are all stats) his E SLOWS you which is pretty much a inverse of his W right? R literally just takes like half your armor and Mr for himself.
so in a nutshell Trundle applies multiple steroids to himself then multiple debuffs to YOU and just challenges you to a right-click DPS race. This kind of design is super archaic and highly in need of modernization. Back THEN when like 90% of the other champs in the game were ALSO statchecking (the Point and click fest that was Master yi,old Sion,Jax,Tryndamere, old Irelia,Garen,Wukong,Nasus, old Warwick,Shyvana,Old Nunu ect) you could easily gloss over this fact but nowadays its something that should actually be addressed as those type of "statcheck's" designs really only make up like 1/5th of the champion pool
the only real "skill" of the champion is with his Pillar placement. Pillar placement is what truly separates the good from the bad trundles as everything else in his kit is pretty much idiot proof and undodgeable. Ult the enemy tank. put down a pillar to try and split the enemy team and mow through the enemy team using your Kings Tribute,W amp, Spirit vis and Triumph to keep you kicking.
I would actually rather Trundle get a small rework that combines Pillar and Frozen Domain into one skill then have his normal W become a new skill with skill expression of some sort.
So while YOU might want Trundle to see buffs.
I do think Trundle is an amazing champion for league and has a well defined niche but at the same time he also has a few "problems" that could use addressing.
Except he actually isn't viable atm.
He only has 14 games played on his best performing players(they take 50 players into account for the rankings, 14 games) throughout all the world in the past week.(yes that is the lowest of all champs, 2nd lowest is sejuani at 72 games)

Popular isn't the same as Viable. Just because some champions are underused doesn't mean they aren't good.
a million times this.
nobody picks Malphite as much but dude's kit is really hella solid and hard to go wrong with likewise I feel the same with Mundo, vlad and Nautilus. Just because people dont care to play these champs en masse like they do Lucian,Jhin or yasuo doesn't mean that these champs are terrible or "free losses". I'd actually much prefer someone on a champ like that than someone on a metaslave champ like Akali.
thy need to rework him before making him viable because shit like trundle > any fighter means you're going to gouge your eyes out as a fighter.
watching trundle q you then just auto you without counterplay because not only did he take your ad, but he gains ad and att speed while slowing you.
all because of 1 button press.
after he gets 1 tank item, you cant even hide behind your turret anymore because haha junglers have red smite too !!!!
His counterplay is that he has no burst, no real damage scaling, no ranged abilities, yet all of his damage is done through auto-attacks. Also, aside from Pillar, every ability in his kit is telegraphed. His kit has more counterplay than most of the champion roster. Even when he closes the gap on an opponent, they have plenty of time to react to what he is doing, especially if they are mobile.
As long as fighters and ranged champions continue to dominate top lane, Trundle will remain nonviable. If the meta ever shifts back to tank tops, Trundle will go back to feeling unstoppable again.
No he won't, he's been very well neutered by Riot
Trundle is Viable when Tanks are Viable.
Trundle is great as he is, I just had one as a support while I was my usual Flashless Ashe. Easy wins!
He is only weak top lane because of bramble.
The day they put that item in the game trundle top died.
Trundle is still a pretty good pick into tanks.
{quoted} cool design
"I press R and autoattack you to death." Wow cool fucking design dude so interactive. Champion deserves to be useless
But yknow that design is more than just gameplay? It's hard to disagree but Trundle's visuals, lore, voicelines etc are at least decent. His design overall is pretty cool.
Most of his gameplay revolves around good Pillar placement. Notice how he was fine until they gutted his E. His damage is easily the weakest part of his kit and not why he is picked at all.
This is why I enjoy playing him as a support. I think he works well in the role if you can place his pillars correctly.
All they have to do is revert the pointless nerfs made to Pillar and he would be fine. The cooldown is far too long for what it does, especially at early ranks. The mana cost is already significantly high, so it's not like he can spam it either way, then the cooldown is around 24 seconds. That's too much for a 15% slow+terrain that nearly every champ can dash through.
a lot of him not being that great is the fact theres rarely a tank to ult, plus mobility is so high he gets kited out of existence most of the time
Wherever the Tanks go, Trundle soon follows.
If the Tanks are garbage, Trundle is garbage.
If the Tanks are strong, Trundle is strong.
Not necessarily. Remember back when champs like Ornn and Maokai were pushing everyone out of top lane? Trundle wasn't commonly picked back then.
It's more that Trundle is good when defensive itemization and scaling are both good, as he doesn't benefit from high damage metas. He doesn't scale damage-wise, but his sustain and utility are better than most fighters.
All Riot has to do is give the resolve tree some real scaling options (defense-wise) and he would be in a decent place, along with most of the juggernauts. Nerfing penetration and half of the %based damage amps from runes would help as well.
There's just too much damage in the game right now, and he's just not designed for that kind of gameplay.
His problem is that his build path makes him really squishy so make him more tanky.
His early game is really weak atm, but he scales better than most bruisers. You pretty much have to include damage in his build if you want to be relevant. However, he doesn't really benefit from rushing damage like most other champs, as his only defensive steroid is reliant on the enemy's defenses.
Basically, he has no defensive options until later in the game, when opponents have more health and/or resistances. This would be fine if his early game wasn't currentlly weaker than every hyper-scaler, barring arguably Kayle.
So with Fiddle and Voli rework, what are your thoughts on next rework to be Trundle?
To relate, Volibear was a champion considered so simple and one dimensional. He had a lack luster kit, tried to run at you and hopes he catches you and tried to kill you if you're foolish to stay in his domain. You can take those same characteristics and put Trundle in front of them and it's the same. Looking into Trundle's lore, it describes him as a hulking, regen monster, with devious and mischievous skills. He either tried to outsmart you or beat you. But he also wields a magical weapon that never melts and gives off an "aura" of cold. How he got such a weapon though was from stealing it. Trundle also has this characteristic to challenge those around him 1 on 1.
An interesting mechanic I would love to see is his 'w' be replaced with a point click challenge feature, where target allows trundle to gain movement speed and attack speed while within certain range of and moving towards target. While the target is challenged, you need to get 3 auto attacks off where True Ice is then applied to the targets body and a chunk of damage is applied. With this proc, the attack speed persists for a few more seconds. The chuck the target lost is then regen to trundle over time.
To make this work, his passive will have to be changed to something that reacts to True Ice applying or proc.
Just like in the lore when Trundle returned with the magical weapon, he caved in the chieftain’s face. His q ability could resemble that where he slams down his club, the area left behind slows enemies.
His e would change to him hurting himself but gaining bonus armor, magic resist, and movement to regen health lost over 10 seconds.
Ultimate would apply an area of affect slow around the target, it wouldn't slow the target. If the target gets a certain distance away, or 10 seconds go by, the ring implodes dealing damage and creates a terrain of ice slowing all enemies. Trundle would steal the targets HP only.
