Has anyone tested black cleaver/last whisper interaction?

item 3071 + item 3035

Has anyone tested how these two items interact now that last whisper only affects bonus armor? Scenario:

Champ_A has 50 base armor and 50 bonus armor, for a total of 100 armor. Fully stacked, black cleaver reduces their armor by 30. If Champ_B attacks them and has last whisper, which scenario plays out:

  1. Champ_A has 50 bonus armor, and cleaver does not affect bonus armor or removes all base armor first, so last whisper removes 30% of 50, or 15 armor. The attack is therefore treated as though Champ_A had 55 armor.
  2. Champ_A's bonus armor is reduced by cleaver before base armor starts being reduced, so last whisper operates against 30% of 20, or 6 armor. 64 armor is therefore remaining.

As you can see, it makes a huge difference of Chaucer stacks reduce bonus armor or not. Has anyone tested and compared numbers mathematically to verify?

This is potentially even more important than would intuitively be apparent. Imagine a tank has 100 base and 300 bonus armor. Black cleaver lowers the total armor by 120 down to 280. If black cleaver does not affect bonus armor totals, then last whisper would reduce their armor by an additional 90. That means Last Whisper's effective armor reduction would, vs high armor targets, actually be larger than total armor reduction, which would only have lowered their armor by 84.

I have not tested this but I know that flat reductions targets bonus resists first. I would assume the same applies for Black cleaver. This means that a target with 100 base + 100 bonus armor gets his armor reduced by 60 to 100 base + 40 bonus armor and then last whisper applied only on the 40 bonus armor.

How do you know that bonus armor is reduced first in any scenario? It is entirely possible that armor reductions don't typically consider "bonus" armor, so a units bonus armor might only change when affected by something specifically like Yasuo's ult follow-up or last whisper.

Flat reduction reduce bonus stats first. You can see this from galio getting lower ap when around an enemy abyssal scepter. On percentage reduction I assume that bonus stats are reduced first but I am not sure.

But Gallo gets AP based on total magic resistance, not bonus.

Sorry bad example... well thornmail or frozen gauntlet should make for easy tests. Go for it!
