So why am I forced to buy champions I have no intention to ever play

manbearswine··2 votes·856 views

just to be able to trade them with my teammates?

Oh wait let me guess,"you don't have to trade champions,it has no effect on the game",I guess trades are made in every fucking competitive game just for the lolz right?

The current draft model is retarded,I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in zed(this isn't a zed hate statement, just really not my thing),so now if a teammate wants to wait out picks to avoid getting countered I have to spend 6300 ip for that?

How does this make any sense?

Who exactly is forcing you to buy champions you don't want? (besides the 16 champion limit for Draft)

The fact that the ability to trade champions is an edge, and I prefer having as many of those as possible?

I mean I know reading is hard, but come on,it's 7 lines of text.

Then play blind pick and be quiet. Most people don't ever bother with trading to prevent counterpicks regardless of elo, and at the lower elos even if they try it's usually irrelevant.

Nobody agrees with you so you resort to name calling?

So you prefer to be able to trade, and that's why you're complaining?

Honestly, I consider trading to be luxury for premades teams.

Yes?

How does that make sense? Isn't the game supposed to be competitive? Why are parts of it only available to premade teams then? Hell, even in a premade trading can be highly problematic.

He's bringing up a valid point. It's not so important in low Elo, but in high Elo trading champions can actually be a big deal sometimes. As in, many people want to pick certain champions that are easily hard countered, so they need to wait for the last pick and trade with them. As such it's a strategical disadvantage not to have all champions.

There's no reason to defend Riot for this, they have their own PR department - don't do their job for them. I'll happily defend Rito on reasonable points, but paying for champions and runes is just a money grab. Dota 2 doesn't do it and people play that game just fine.

You probably don't have a large pool of champions in your roster yet to be raging in early draft picks huh.

In champion selection chat, you should communicate with your teammates what champs they want to trade, cz things like "He's forcing me to buy this champ just to avoid counters" isn't a big issue. Players were suppose to have a large champion roster before they would think of trying out Draft pick.

A player waiting out his original picks, commonly a mid or top, is actually an ideal & excellent strategy in order to punish enemy champions with counters they know of. Who knows your top laner will retardedly picks Nasus first as a first pick and then gives the enemy an opportunity to pick Darius against him.

You must have a large champion roster before going into Draft Pick. I dunno what kind of guy would waltz in with just 20 or less out of 126, thinking thee whole process would go in a straight line without any strategy or plans. You're better off playing Blind Picks or Team Builder.

Yes, but why do you have to unlock them? "So you can learn the game better" isn't a valid reason, plenty of high level players learn the game faster than others with an extremely limited champion pool.

The reason IP unlocking of runes and champions exist is to put pressure on IP such that people get impatient and spend RP on champions. If Dota 2 can unlock all champions for free within a short time of starting (after a few tutorial matches) then LoL can do the same.

Not necessary to unlock them all, but for a few reasons:

  1. Of course, the draft pick trading.
  2. To learn how certain champion's abilities works, especially w/e combo they commonly use. Or else, this is turning into another "Ekko is OP from release wtf rito" case all over again.
  3. Chances that your insufficient champion pick will majorly get picked by either your teammates or enemies, and who knows, you're only left to play ADC Cass.

I never played Dota2, so I don't really have much say in this part. But all I can say is that usually Rune purchase is okay to be hold on after purchasing about 40% of champion roster. It's better to know how to master your champion first before getting yourself some steroid power.

lol I know what's necessary and what's not necessary to win games. I've played my smurf up to Plat 3 without runes and with the minimum 16 champions. It's not hard to win without this stuff, but it's still a competitive disadvantage and there's no reason for Riot to lock them away.

Look, let me put it this way. No other major competitive game locks away important gameplay elements (unless it was for a few introductory games). Unlocking champions doesn't help you learn them better - trying them out in custom games does. Free week is just a platitude from Riot and doesn't solve the root issue.

I have about half of them, and what do early picks have to do with this?

Generally when you want to trade with someone you need him to have about 3 champions(so you could choose depending on picks),and he needs you to have the same, you need to have massive rosters to be able to communicate that effectively.

A player waiting out his original picks, commonly a mid or top, is actually an ideal & excellent strategy in order to punish enemy champions with counters they know of. Who knows your top laner will retardedly picks Nasus first as a first pick and then gives the enemy an opportunity to pick Darius against him.

Exactly my point?

Half of them isn't large? I guess I should've started playing in the beta...

I dunno what kind of guy would waltz in with just 20 or less out of 126, thinking thee whole process would go in a straight line without any strategy or plans. You're better off playing Blind Picks or Team Builder.

Look it basically goes like this:

player 1: guys can someone pick zed for me later? *half of the team doesn't respond,10 seconds later 1 guy:" player4: sure, can you pick me nami? player 1: I don't have nami... player 4: Errr, can you give me leona then? player 1: Don't have her either... timer starts to get low player 4:FINE JUST GIVE ME ALISTAR player 1: eh...don't have him either player 4:HOW THE HELL DO YOU NOT HAVE ALISTAR,HE IS FUCKING FREE timer gets very low player 4:FINE JUST GIVE ME ANY SUPPORT *player 1 locks in soraka" player 4: sigh enemy team picks zed player 4: do you have ahri? player 1: no...

this goes on with a bunch of other champions until eventually some compromise is made team meanwhile tries to communicate where they go and what they pick sure as hell you don't have another couple trading, too much background talk for that trading phase starts...player 1 is now afk someone dodges ->people get heavily discouraged to try to trade, due to nonsense such as this

You know what, forget I said anything, clearly this is working absolutely perfect.

Like... I don't get why think it's a big issue.

Yes it happens all the time in the LCS because that's like a whole different world of "team based play" than everywhere else. They know if there's contested champs that both teams like to use, they know who's best on the team (or has the smallest champ pool) and pick for them first because they know that strategically it works. Everyone else it's way less likely to work that way, very few people even use it for avoiding counterpicks, it's usually only to get any super busted champs that didn't get banned (like 4.20 godwick) before the other team. Even if they DID do it to avoid counterpicking, that's not unique to any roll, every single position has high and low counterpick risk champs, even if you saved Zed for your first pick to see if it got countered, you'd be giving up something in another roll (yours if you're the one doing the trade). It has far less play outside the competitive scene than you seem to think.

Unless you don't like the mechanic because it opens the door to pressure from your team to give up your chance to pick a highly counter-able champ (Leona support, Riven top, etc.) or they get mad when you don't have the champ to trade them, in which case I remind you that we live in a world where people can't handle pick order, you'll have shitasses regardless.

as someone who has played dota, there is more to this than meets the eye.

lcs really isn't a whole different level of team based play(though it is higher),the problem is that trying to communicate a trade here is such a mess(hell, last time I tried to trade with someone that guy went afk(I'm guessing he just forgot he had to trade) and I had to dodge),that I mostly just don't feel like even trying, even if I definitely would want to do such a thing.

Say a person wants to make a very safe(and/or op) pick, but that person is below in the pick order, this scenario is quite likely and in dota would result in a "trade"(draft in dota just works differently),sure in a perfect world everyone is a hyper tryhard and master of all champions, but say your first pick is a riven main, and you feel like playing thresh, why not trade with him?

In dota's draft this would just result in a thresh pick eventually followed by a riven pick at some point, yet here the process is so messy people most likely won't even bother.

I'd say this just encourages lack of cooperation with your team(as it puts less emphasis on trying to work with your teammates),removes layers of depth from the game(the drafting process is very important in every moba, and that can be seen in competitive play),it goes unnoticed because people are so used to trades being messed up they've just given up on trying to coordinate on that level(subconsciously or otherwise.)
