Why did riot want to make a roaming support?

Of all the things I could say about pyke, seeing a roaming support is both interesting and scary. On one hand, he's an aggressive playmaker that assassin players might be able to pick up without too many problems. On the other hand, he's clearly intended to leave bot lane early, which could be disastrous in some matchups. You know someone is going to pick Pyke with Vayne or Kog as his ADC only to see the enemy team picking lane bullies or a kill lane for bot. Just imagine him trying to gank mid only to get counterganked by the jungler while his ADC either dies or loses bot tower to the 2v1. In some elos, that could effectively end the game right there.

This is definitely a unique support, but a risky one.

Yeah, but with an easier ult to use and it gives kills to your teammates.

Unlike bard, he also doesn't have to go get charms and he can't help teammates roam.

I don't even see him as a roaming support.

He CAN roam and gank, but he's mostly going to be like blitcrank in bot lane, constant fear of a hard engage with his Q or E, especially from stealth, at 6 he just becomes a kill securer at the cost of.. I guess no utility items?

Letha, like an assassin, and his bonus gold on R allow him to do so. But his ratio will probably not be as high as other assassins. We might see cheap off-meta builds abusing the bonus gold tho.

I have a hunch he might do a duskblade build, then after that just go utility like locket so he's still supporting.

All he really has to do is land his chain CC and then when his team brings them low, secure the kills.

Most supports are supposed to roam, except for a handful. Pyke just does it a little bit better, like Bard. Supporting isn't just about babysitting your ADC all game long, you're a support to your team, not an individual player. Knowing when to roam and when not to makes a great support. Sadly soloQ ADCs often have problems with roaming supports.
