new support items are fucking boring :( now they are just starting effect+sightstone quest.

their cool unique quest effects have been removed and now its just "tank, poke, or passive" choices. i do appreciate not having to spend 800g on a sightstone, but the cost of losing like, 3-4 different unique item effects is so not worth it. I'd honestly rather just spend the 800g every single game.

You should also consider what else this could mean. The immense hatred towards relic shield ADC's will die down and they will have to start readjusting to using, dare I say it, Doran's Items.

I do agree that it is unfortunate that supports are being shifted around so much due to other lane metas.

that's true but they straight up removed frost queen's claim. now there's not actually a good option for AP-based supports like Lulu or Janna, all that's left is the sub-par eye of the watcher one with 35 ap and 200 health.

If you watch the deeper conversation, they say they'll be trying to bring the actives from Frost Queen's and Talisman back.

Besides that, getting to rush another item is pretty good on supports; we may be losing actives in the pool of items, but you only have six slots anyway. I would argue that for tank supports (who won't be getting FotM active back ever, most likely), they can rush locket for about the same effect at roughly the same point in the game.

Yeah, now they only have 1 shield instead of two, but they can continue to rush other, more interesting items. The same thing is true of non-tank supports, too, but I do admit it will feel worse if you loved those items.

My biggest problem with them is that they were in nearly every game, so they don't feel fresh and fun to me. I actually rather like the idea of having sightstone on the gold item; that way, supports will (in an ideal world) have more options so they can further differentiate themselves from other supports.

The issue with Locket vs FotM is that Face gives 10% CdR, which is very important on tank supports.

I don't want to discount that totally, but you still have Knight's Vow, Zeke's, Ardent, Spirit Visage (a fave of mine on Taric), etc. Since you can rush those faster, you still have good access to CDR compared to having FotM. I think the support item will still give 10% cdr... is that what's up on pbe now?

So instead of FotM, Ruby SS, locket, you'll have support item, locket, and start something else. I really don't see it being that far off power neutral on the time frame that matters.

This is just an idea, but maybe the goal is to move those types of supports aside. All of the people ranting on and on about item 3504 (is it still relevant?) or similar will be happy, and it could give new supports a chance to shine.

All of my non-Sona support picks used the t3 actives as well as RSS, and it really sucks that that's going away.

What also really sucks is that they're removing the gold quest rewards completely, as well. You know, the things they specifically added to make the support role more interesting and rewarding. That Spellthief's speed boost got me out of so many hairy situations, and does so every day. It's going to SUCK to lose it and for what, the permission to ward now?

I'm seeing a lot of support mains passionate about keeping the items as they are, but some also strongly dislike the bot lane shield meta (I'm guilty of that, I lost to a Taric Leona bot lane). I think we have to think about who is losing more in terms of balance vs fun, and if the trade-off is worth it.

They are planning on putting the item use ability of the yellow and blue support items back in the game in another capacity. No word on the tank one yet.

The idea is though that your "interesting items" will come from support items you actually build like Ardent, Frozen Heart, Locket, Mikael's, Athenes.

If you want AP heck you can build it, or you can go something like Athene's. I mean 800g is damn near a blasting wand or fiendish codex.

My biggest concern with these changes are not that they won't be interesting or exciting, as you will have a good chance of ending the game with a whole extra item. My concern is that the game will be even more snowball and fast paced, which no one wants.

The problem is, none of these items are interesting. Frozen heart is a ball of stats, Athenes and Ardent are items that help turn your adc into a ball of stats, Locket is push a button and give the whole team extra gold in defensive stats (health), and Zekes just gives you and your ADC more stats for ulting. Finally, Mikaels, the only truly interesting support item in the game because you actually have to be good at using it, is shunted to the side because all of the other support items give you more for less.

The support role is cancerous, and a lot of why ADC is broken has to do with all of the free shit these items give ADCs

I feel like supports typically have pretty interesting kits. Other roles don't even usually build items with a use on them. ADC might go BORK situationally.

In my opinion Redemption, Zeke's, and Mikaels are all pretty dope. Also let's not forget Righteous Glory on engagers like Alistar, Leona, Annie, even Braum.

Why do supports need to have more interesting items than other roles anyway? Is it the idea of a tradeoff for not doing damage?
