Just let us use the fucking runes at level 11. Don't jerk us around like the current system does.

So I was like "damn I'm level 11, finally, I get an actual rune page." and then I find out that NOPE, i can't REALLY make a rune page until another two fucking levels! Not only that, but the default rune choices they lock you into, some of them are REALLY TERRIBLE, like Overgrowth and unflinching as the default level 11 runes? what the fuck? I can't even choose the secondary tree I want until level 15? inspiration is not even AVAILABLE AT ALL until level 17? [darius-angry]

Bone the smurfs!!

Make them suffer for their multiple accounts!

Edit; Yeah that sucks, but it introduces nubs slowly.

Starter stuff is build around basic champions and simple stats... It's not THAT long.

new players that like to experiment and test out their option would prefer haveing all runes unlocked earlier, And the others don't care. As long as their is an option for getting riots standart runes on each champ as default, new players either ignore the can ignore the rune system as they have to right now, or they can foul around with it, and most truely new won't really care wether it's very effective or not, and those that do care would certainly want to get other runes than the preset as soon as possible. I just don#t see any real advantage in delaying rune choices that much.

Actually, most new players end up making things that don't work.

I know this from personal experience when I was informed in a ranked game that Darius was meant to be a tank/fighter, NOT full AD/lifesteal.

I was devastated but... it did make sense... I always seemed to die before reaching the enemies and the highlight of my game was beating a minion horde to death and taking no damage because of my Bloodthirster.

My point is, the game isn't as fun when you are being brutally murdered because you made something that doesn't work. If Riot forces you to use something weak/basic you cannot be destroyed by the system, simply by bad plays and mistakes.

In other words, rather than introducing people to Hearthstone with an empty deck and saying "Go make something! Have fun!" (Yes, this is an extreme example,) Riot wants new players to have equal battlegrounds so they can learn the game's basics before they have 17 complex things to be worrying about at a time.

This argument is ridiculous and it's insulting as fuck, you're assuming that there's a massive playerbase of people who are literally illiterate. The runes are not complicated. they say exactly what they do right in the description. It's an incredibly simplistic system where the only difficulty is choosing which runes are the absolute best. If Riot forces you to use something weak and basic, you ARE, IN FACT, BEING DESTROYED BY THE SYSTEM, BECAUSE YOU ARE BEING PIGEON-HOLED INTO GARBAGE RUNES.

"oh but, EVERYONE has that same restriction though! So its fair!" oh, really? so in every one of my games people are the same level huh? N O P E!! Every game there is at least one person who is 10 levels above me. The system is totally fucked on every level. it helps nobody and it only fucks noobs over by giving them less choice, and pushing bad habits based upon shit runes. By playing with garbage-ass runes they'd never use, it just wastes their time with garbage experience that they can't apply to anything else. It's also a really good way to get people to completely despise certain champions as worthless and weak, because without the specific runes they need they are, in fact, weak and worthless.

So basically the system in place heavily punishes noobs, as they can't even pick the same tools as those with higher levels, it teaches them bad habits that they then have to unlearn, and it also gives them shit information on the champions themselves because they are forced to use the wrong tools. The default runes are also some of the weakest, for example, for Resolve, it defaults to Unflinching and Overgrowth. Very few people run those runes as they are relatively weaker compared to the other options.

I am not assuming people are illiterate, maybe you should try reading what I said....

They say exactly what they do, but choosing requires experience as well as using them correctly. The starter runes are PART of the runes, they are not 'weak and basic'

Actually it is fair because everyone has the same restriction, playing with higher levels means you are doing too well in your matches with the lower levels... so good job! Your skill level is supposedly higher than the players with access to runes so if you can beat them w/o the runes then you can do it with them once you unlock them in time.

I don't know a single champion that is worthless or weak the first time you play. Actually all of them are

My brother started this game and died under tower 19 times the first game. He continued to die under tower for a few more games then went back to black ops... but my point is giving someone level 5 who literally has 8 games of experience some new runes will not in any circumstances make their champion much better. The only time this is true is when you are smurfing.

It 'heavily punishes' the noobs by slowing their entrance into the game and making sure they learn basics along the way. How is not having access to the runes page a 'bad habit' that needs to be unlearned.

The default runes are some of the weakest? They're default for a tank. Regardless of who you're playing, they are made to give some basic buffs rather than letting the enemy team's Master Yi to instantly kill you with Lethal Tempo and have no idea how he did it. (you know he's going to kill you anyway)

Locking away options still isn't the right way to do it imo. That issue is more becuase there is just no official information on how to play the game or certain champs, the tutorial only covers the most basic mechanics of the game and even forces you to get thornmail on ashe which is a pretty dumb idea. Locking away things is a poor way of dealing with people's stupidity, actually educateing them might be more effort, but is far more valuable.

Propose something better than locking them away...?

The tutorial does suck...

But how do you suppose they should be educated? Take an online class to play League? By easing them in they are forced to learn themselves (or mash skip and ignore everything except clicking the enemies)

Barkley22 votes

Most people at that level are one of three things

1.) Brand new, so they need the ease-in.

2.) Toxic people who got banned and are leveling a new account. Fuck these people.

3.) People smurfing so they can feel good about themselves when beating up on lower elo / new players. Fuck these people.

So basically, the only case that matters insinuates that this is a good system, and working as intended.

dandyd00d1 votes

yes but locking content from new people doesnt help them learn. In fact, I'd say it does the opposite. For instance if you were a new player overwhelmed by all the the different options, champions, runes, and items, i understand how you would want to ease them in. But locking people out isnt the answer when they should be experimenting and figuring it out how things work. Its like saying that "only people above level 15 can buy items above 3000 gold because they arent sure what items are good because they are new." It makes no sense. Im fine with forcing or recommending presets pre level 10 but locking klepto and secondary runes until level 20 is dumb and doesnt promote learning. New players are just going to get used to ignoring runes and not reading what everything does due to the system babying them, and then suddenly kicks them out on their own at level 20.

Hello, today's the first day of track and field! Today we introduce, EVERYTHING IN TRACK IN FIELD HERE. We'll do this again tomorrow and the day after, so in the hour/hour and a half blocks we have you get to try a mile in 5 minutes! Every Single Day. :D Hope you don't get overwhelmed as fuck and hope you stay :D

Vs.

Hello, today's the first day of track and field! Today we introduce 100 meter, 200, 400 ETC. Tomorrow we're doing long jumps and high jumps. ETC. You'll have plenty of time to attempt to adapt to the things we are doing today and slowly find a niche that suits you for the long term. If you still don't like anything that's a shame.

dandyd00d1 votes

Ok but thats if you have someone guiding you through it. League's tutorial covers none of the macro game elements, so its up to the player to learn everything themselves. But when everything is locked it leaves no room for experimentation and learning.

no killy me1 votes

Let me clarify.

That's "Tryouts" I suppose. Not tryouts as in going for team, tryouts as in, here try this see if you like it.

There are TONS of people for track & field, they just give you an area, and you figure it out. It's much more apt then you think.

The best way to figure things out is: observing, asking a friend/person, and just doing it and trying it.

Wonder what else that applies too... Hint League

Not really, not everyone creates a new account because he wants to feel good or was banned.I for one started an account where i decided i would play only ADC (because on my main i got distracted by other roles even though since the begining i was an adc main) so when i want to play adc i just change accounts and thats it. But anyway, the system isn't really that good, i've seen a lot of new accounts that (maybe, 80% chance) were smurfs because they knew excatly what to do in different situations. And that isn't such a good thing for new players, it makes the game just harder and more unfair for them, making it easier to leave. And the runes system right now is complete shit, not because it gives you the runes in different levels but because it doesn't say it beforehand.Instead of telling you that you will unock runes at lvl 17 it tells you that you will at lvl 11 and thats bullshit because that ain't true at all. Before you had the possibility to choose one of the mastery trees and go with it and when you were level 30 you would get that extra passive, and that was great because you had to be lvl 30 to have an extra ability. But now even with a 3-4 lvl difference there is someone with more choice and more freedom than you, and you cant do shit about it exept grinding you way through levles.

Because while Riot doesn't specifically ban the practice, they don't really like smurfs.

What you are complaining about is only a problem for smurfs, while it is very much a good thing for new players. It's not changing.

ªTeemo3 votes

Some new players will get used to playing with shitty rune setups though

korg0231 votes

And how would they ban smurfs? What if in one household under same IP adress more family members play league , how would they know its not smurfs?

Automated Riven4 votes

Your leveling a smurf. We care a million times more about new player experience then your leveling problems.

ªTeemo2 votes

And this is a problem for the new players as well. They are taught to play with shitty rune setups

Bhagswag3 votes

Nope. If they google "runes for janna" they will find what they need. Anyone who doesn't at least try to actively search for that stuff doesn't care/won't see the benefit/won't impact their personal game play.

Automated Riven1 votes

No it isn't. When you learned how to play I assume you learned that buying thornmail on Ashe was bad. By the time any newcomer gets to level 30 they should be easilly able to have the few champions which are given to them pretty well figured out. And messing around with runes as they learn the game better will even out. Dont discredit other people as tho they are unable to think things through.

Shadòw4 votes

Yeah sure you totally are a new player and bother about which Runes you are gonna take instead of focusing on learning the game first.

You know, new player experience isn't balanced for smurfs.

korg0233 votes

When Riot reworks runes so everyone gets free runes but they dont!

Quepha2 votes

This complaint is relevant for such a short period of time that I don't think you should bother spending the energy to complain about it.

Pinkaj2 votes

Worst thing is League doesn't teach you how to set up the runes. So you take Inspiration and Sorcery on Yi, and tutorial teaches you to buy Thornmail on Ashe, Battle Training teaches you...just push. Use a health pot. Back at 1500 gold, then back at 2100 gold. Win game. Go mid and Soraka will heal and dive for you. Where are the timings for ability usage? D:

Dumb system indeed

Serika Zero1 votes

They are not runes, they are masteries. Its the same mastery system from past seasons.

Riot just renamed them into "runes" so that they can make money off you people who are buying rune pages ;) Instead of giving you unlimited preset options like masteries had.

On the good side, you can set them during the champ select.

Reverent Wrath1 votes

Shhhh! Once RIOT realizes that they could make more money forcing people to buy "mastery pages" by removing the ability to modify them in champ select they will close that loophole at once!

Shadòw1 votes

I mean, they kinda already take away the need to buy Runes and Rune pages in the first place and make the whole pregame stat stuff free and people still complain.

The only thing that was shitty was the compensation for the old runes.

Masteries had unlimited preset options while Runes never had. You never were able to change your Runes in champ select like you can now, you could only do that with masteries which was only half of the system.

Smitty Manjensen1 votes

Are people really that gullible to think it's because of new players? The majority are smurfs, so they made it this way to sell more xp boosts, pretty obvious.

Season 3 Kasadin1 votes

inc cactopous with a shitty chart:

check out this chart, that using mathematics and actual statistics, demonstrates why the new system is 44 times better!!!! you level up soooo fast now, so you unlock all the runes and masteries extremely fast now
