the only reason it's like that is because adc's are optimal for gold+objective taking (take a look at where the weakest tower is and drag...bot side)

so until the power distribution of the map doesn't completely favor the bot side of the map then adc's will never be anywhere but bot. They aren't likely to ever be mid because adc's don't have much mobility or gank potential so it doesn't make sense to waste the shortest lane with the highest gank potential on an adc.

this is the meta meta != something you must do, it just means that at random this will be the default best choice. But champion picks aren't usually random. You can learn why this works and switch it up anytime you want.

But you're gonna feel real stupid if you can't even tell which of these is more appropriate for bot lane or if you don't compensate for the change in general strategy

Honestly, I find it amazing how the game has evolved this way.

I can see how midlane, since it can be ganked from any side, would need a champ with escapes and I can see what makes a champ be able to survive in the JG. I find it interesting how Top lane is more for melee tanks and botlane is ADC Support.

As for changing it, well, you would need a time machine to do that. The game has been played this way for a long while and has evolved to this state from a long time of people playing. I'm not sure how it happened, but you see the retaliation if you go too off meta. It would take a combined effort of all the players and a better idea than what we have now to change it.

Let's look at each role for a sec.

The JG takes a certain type of champ and the JG XP isn't balanced for two JG so that is out the window.

The reason bot takes two people down there due to dragon being an objective before laning phase ends. Marksman would not be able to thrive without a support, so it makes sense to put the support and marksman at bot.

Midlane is a shorter lane with more entry points to gank so it would normally require someone with mobility. There are exceptions to this, but they would need mobility with a dash of roaming and gank potential.

Top is the place for Tanks and Bruisers as it is mostly an island. Baron isn't an objective till after laning phase and rift herald isn't really a common take for teams unless the jg or top is ahead or mid can take it. Since Tanks and Bruisers would rather people not come to their lane, they go top, since the average jg's attention is on mid or bot.

Each lane takes certain traits to do well. Cait does not normally go top due to the fact that tanks could tank her dmg and kill her easily. Galio doesn't go bot since he can't tank the Physical dmg from the poke at bot. Certain champs can sustain or clear in the jg and can't survive in MID being constantly ganked.

Again, the game has evolved to the point where it is balanced with these roles in mind and the game is built around that. It would take a lot to change it and it may not be possible. If you want to try, I would recommend doing it with a group of 5 friends who are on board with something like 2 JG or 2 Mid.

Although... I'm still waiting for an overlord type of Champion similar to Abathur (HotS). Being non existant on the map as a Champion. For 1-1-1-1 or 1-0-1-2. =P (maybe he can just incarnate for a short time, maybe he doesnt show up in any fight and just fuses with allies, or unleashes a holy judgment upon the enemy team.... the DREAM BOIS!!!)
