Why do we still call Support, Support?

Mid laners have long since dethroned "traditional" supports from this position, so the term is inaccurate. The last time I saw a Zyra mid was when she was released. Supports barely exist anymore, bot lane has become two sources of damage output. An ADC and an AP mage with some form of reliable CC. Why would anyone want to play Nami against a Brand? When is Riot going to admit there's a problem and actually work towards rectifying it? Reworking traditional supports like Taric isn't enough, mages have stolen the little limelight supports ever knew.

nami>brand water beats fire same reason that igniting brand actually gives him a buff

I've been sticking to support tanks for the past four years with no issue. If anything it's funny going against Brands and junk since I can just all in them and they have no idea what to do.

maybe after the diver rework (probably slated for mid season?) we'll get a support rework for the pre-season for next year

Low ELO is where the largest base of players are. Traditional supports do not fare well in low ELO no matter how good they are because low ELO ADCs tend to have bad decision-making, poor follow-up, and related. This must be why strong mage supports have become the norm (? norm? I don't see them that often to be honest). It's why I gave up on my Soraka and Blitzcrank. It's why I Zyra--that and I can use her in mid or top should I end up there.

The problem with support is generally, in my opinion, that they rely too much on other players to be remotely useful, and when playing those roles, are shat on much more when people die to poor decisions. To cite general statistics I am kind of making up here: When I mained champs like Soraka, I saw 90% more toxicity from my team aimed at me for their death than when I play Zyra. I get 90% more compliments and honors playing a support that can set up kills, take kills, control the lane in ADC absence, hard-engage, and terrify the enemy bot team than I did playing someone who was there to initiate failed campaigns due to poor ADC follow-up and save ADC lives lost to standing under a turret trying to desperately get a first blood.

Keep supports. Just make more like Zyra, imo.
