I dont get URF

Yeah, its fun for a few matches. But I dont see why people were so anoyying about bringing it back. I missed the last one so didnt know what it was. Hearing everyone talking about it all the time I had higher expectation. But I burnt out on it quick. Its mostly about champ select, not a large amount of skill involved.

Yeah its kinda fun, but I guess I just dont get the hype

Yeah, it was just like this last year. Everyone who wanted it back are the people who just want to spam buttons and win in 15 minutes. It has always been overrated, and people in general tend to remember things they liked as better than they actually were.

MrBuffington1 votes

I mean, extreme hyperbole isn't exactly a uniquely URF-related thing in this community

I still think URF is fun, I'm glad it's only a temporary game-mode (but one they're willing to bring back annually). I think people take this too seriously, on both sides. You have the people who are try-harding and picking the same things every game, and you have the people who are constantly complaining about the people who are try-harding. Just play your own game, have fun with it, if people are flaming you, there's a mute button for that, and remember to report them afterwards; it's still League, lol, it's not like changing a gamemode is suddenly going to turn the community into some kind of utopia of peace and harmony.

junglerboy162 votes

Nope, not URF related, but people go to extremes with everything, i.e. "I remember when Nidalee spears hit like ballistic missiles, that was awful" or "URF was the most fun I have ever had because I could play anything!" (Nidalee spears only do ~200 less damage than they used to, but now she is also strong in lane, URF was really fun, but people had already started making competitive tier lists by the end of the first week and mostly stuck with it because it was faster paced).

Urf is fun, yes, but it loses its novelty rather quickly, especially when you get stuck with a group of tryhards who are only playing to win instead of to try out crazy random crap that would never work outside of this mode.

Who cares about people making tier lists, so much of tier lists is just splitting hairs, for real, people think the difference between "broken OP" and "unplayable" is like 3% win rate difference. You take those statistics in any other game, any other context, and it's practically imperceptible. It makes virtually no difference in your individual experience of the game; if you're good at the game and your champion, you'll figure out a way to make it work.

Like I said before, it's still League, you'd get the exact same thing in any game mode you play (probably worse in other modes, tbh). You can't control other players; just focus on yourself and your play, and you'll have a lot more fun. Who the hell cares if that one kid is playing AP Ezreal for the millionth time, that doesn't affect you, just play your own game.

dnsup2 votes

people in general tend to remember things they liked as better than they actually were

There is another human tendency to overemphasize negative experiences, so that good experiences are overshadowed even when they are more prevalent.

This is why League's community has a toxicity problem, and it's why toxicity runs on a feedback loop. It's also the reason why some of the community don't enjoy URF. Take a look at your match history and evaluate for yourself.

Because it's a non-stressful version of the actual game.

In normal matches you're basically forced to play the meta champs or you don't get to play at all or you'll be pretty useless.

In URF mode I can pick brand and go mid vs a leblanc and not feel like the games over if she manages to pick up a single kill and continue to be flamed and reported.

I can get a few levels and try to cheese with my stun lock. Probably a poor example but you get the point. URF takes away the high stress, limited play style and says fk it have fun

you know why its a relaxed game mode?? cause its not permanent. give urf a month tops and people will start making full tier lists.

junglerboy163 votes

They already do have tier lists (everyone knows Nid is OP, along with Jayce, Ezreal, Sona, Alistar, Hecarim, etc.) and everyone playing is going super tryhard mode already.

Who cares?

The point of the game mode is to do whatever and have fun! The dude is being burnt out because he isn't having fun, and ergo can't be helped except for people to say "just pick a champ and have fun with it."

Anivia, Volibear, and Thresh are all surprisingly fun.

blupengu1 votes

i tried playing with volibear the first time, not knowing what to expect… i will not be picking him again… everyone plays pokey champs, and there's nothing i can early game except die ;-;

dnsup2 votes

Usually with the right build, you can kill those pokey champs. And if you really can't, then you teleport around the map till you can. Over-pressure another lane, force them to poke something else.

Seriously, just adjust your strategy and don't shit on the game mode. It's fun if you don't treat it like it's normal.

Left Hook Larry2 votes

Actually in normal matches you can play any champ you want. Why wouldn't you be able to? Now it's something else to want to go Janna jungle, but if you mean something like Cho support, Shaco mid, etc. then why wouldn't you be able to play those?

Stop taking normals so seriously.

3TWarrior1 votes

unlike in a normal match, however, a ranked match can be determined simply from the champ select screen due to counters and kit limitations for champions

Left Hook Larry1 votes

False. You can win any match. Counters decide the lane not the game. And you can even beat counters in lane if you outplay them.

DeusVult2 votes

People already have "meta" champs for URF

if your not playing Alistar Annie Blitzcrank Fizz Hecarim Karthus Karma Katarina Leblanc Lux Malzahar MasterYi Morgana Nidalee Shaco Sona

then you are going to get flak from your team

I just played Rengar and took summoner 11 and was 6 while everyone was 4

but because the other team had Alistar Blitzcrank Hecarim and could perma cc people, our team told me that I was playing a crap champ

URF would be fun if it was all random. It was fun for 2-3 games, but after that i got burnt the fuck out

Tidecaller Nami6 votes

It's the same cancer picks every game. If you want to have any fun at all you have to play customs with your friends.

MrBexy5 votes

Bruh... you don't simply "get burnt out" on URF. You either have what it takes or you don't. You're exhibiting signs of not having what it takes.

Left Hook Larry1 votes

This is why you stay out of Bronze kids

MrBexy2 votes

URF has no ranking system, thus eliminating the need for any pretty squabbles over skill level. You let your skillfully relentless ability spamming do the talking. URF is a relentless place where only the strong thrive. A place where we don't worry about children, especially in regards to them staying out of a fictional rank. A place where you can sit down, stretch a bit, and take in the sights... Of your enemies falling before you... Pentakill after pentakill.

The Whamboozler5 votes

Meh, I didn't care for URF either really. I played a game or four of it... got bored, and never looked back. There isn't much strategy to it and it DOES feel like it's pretty heavily about picking champs who are OP if allowed to spam. Also the same champs are picked nearly every game... and that isn't new. Last time URF was out Riot literally banned a bunch of champs from the game mode because they were broken in it and being spammed by EVERYONE. I get why people like it, but it strikes me as a game for twitchy FPS players with ADD or the like who wanna be blowing this up constantly like the game is a Micheal Bay film. It's a bit fun at first, but it wears out it's welcome quickly when you realize it only really has the spectacle going for it.

The game mode I want to come back is all for one. Trying to make a viable team out of 5 of a single champion got pretty fun.

Xemeron3 votes

The mode is good. The community ruins it because everyone is a tryhard. Everyone picks Blitzcrank, Ezreal, Fizz, Hecarim, LebLanc, Shaco, Zed, Riven, Sona, Kassadin, everyone just wants to win win win win....

Sooko3 votes

Last year it seemed a lot better :C I was able to play a lot more champions and I saw a lot more than just the same horribly mobile piles of trash every game. Its the problem of desire to win outweighing desire to have fun.

Wullf3 votes

URF the second featured game mode after Hexakill.

Hexakill did not get much fans because it was boring, slow and too similar to classic games. URF that was meant as april's fool joke got so much hype that even though it was meant to stay only for one day, riot decided to let it stay for a while. As it was only second mode and the first one good, everyone was enjoying it. After a while it got into stage of tryhards that thought that this mode can be played seriously. (this stage came almsot instantly this time as mostly everyone knew how to play this mode already) And with the age of tryhards, the URF was closed.

After that people were calling fro URF to come back, but what kind of people wanted that? Ofcourse the tryhards. But not only them, a lot of other players wanted to taste that sweet taste of speed again. And so bad was forgotten and community agreed tha they want to play it once more.

But more modes came and we had fun with hexakill in TTL, Ascension, One for All etc.

Yet still URF hype was there, and the only reason that it was there was nostalgia. Because it was first mode that was fun.

In other words URF hype is like remembering "the good old times", though you have already forgetten all the bad about it.

But You are not hyped because there were more featured modes afterwards that were also fun.

Still, URF was first mode that changed the game completely - giving vastly different game experience from other modes.

I would prefer if you simply apologized for insulting him (because you did, and I'm not going to acknowledge any false logic you present to otherwise defend you did not insult him) and simply tell us how you actually felt. We know you care because of your passionate response, but it was just passion without clarity.

You're angry. Why are you angry? What about this bothers you? What do you not like? What would you like to see done about it? These are the questions and the answers we need to be productive.

No, I'm here to correct the simple fact, I did not insult him, I was talking about players who want urf back again and again despite the obvious fact that scaling SOME of the time related things (CDR) without the remaining (like movement) in the same amount is bound to cause unsolvable balance issues.

Yes i've been mildly insulting to them by saying that their intelligence was sub par a comparable to the worst 25% of the world population. But I saw much more aggressive insult in this community lol. I think they can get over it.

Because the meta is much less static. Everyone roams constantly, and the game runs at a much faster pace. Do you play ARAM? It's similar to that -- a casual mode for fun, where you can basically build however you want to and lane however you want to.

Its mostly about champ select, not a large amount of skill involved.

You say that, but I've gone Shaco basically all night and always had a better KDA than enemy Shacos. If it were all about champ select, we'd be even.

There's only one rule of URF. ALWAYS BAN SONA.

dnsup1 votes

Because the meta is much less static. Everyone roams constantly, and the game runs at a much faster pace.

This. With everyone bringing teleport, this is much more the case. If your team knows how to respond to varying lane pressures, you have a better chance at winning regardless of enemy team comp.

Infiny Mage2 votes

Champ select has nothing to do with it. Of course you will have the try hards who are in it to win. (Just mute em, 10x better). It's supposed to be a fun mode, experiment with champions etc. Etc. But honestly it Isent for everyone. Some people do get burnt out fast. Others play it till its gone and will cry a little inside till its back.

dnsup1 votes

This is the most honest assessment of the mode I've seen all day. I don't know why people feel the need to outright lie in order to bash it. As if one's own experience of something should dictate everyone else's choices.

Leaf of the lake2 votes

Urf mode is good for practicing things like punishing teleports. People teleport a lot in urf, so you get a lot of opportunities to try to time a meaty spell. It's one of the few skills you learn in urf that's transferable to a real game, since usually you can just rely on the raw power of your champion to get by - until you encounter someone equally OP, in which case you have to actually outplay. It also lets you practice landing skillshots more in general, since you don't feel like you've gotta save the cd; it's short enough that by the time you actually need it, it should be up again. I'd say use it as an opportunity to get comfortable with landing skillshots in situations you wouldn't normally go for them in.

Partholonian1 votes

One word of warning here though, 2-3 teleports look almost identical to one teleport. In normal games that isn't as much of a factor because of the CD and there usually aren't that many teleports on a team, but in URF...

warpenguin5552 votes

its nothing too special imo. It got boring quickly

OneMoreDaySK2 votes

I think it's partly because of the speed at which the matches go. In regular matches you invest 30-40 minutes into a game, then everyone gets mad when they lose. In URF things get sped up at a much quicker rate, so when you do lose you can just hop back into queue and try again.

Much like with Robocraft at its current state. I get matched with a couple of idiots who decide they can 1vAll and die, well, in a few minutes its over, and I just hop back into queue. I got to go and try a lot of stupid things in this mode with my friends, and we have a good time.

Besides, it's very satisfying catching out one of the strong characters and stepping on them. My favorite champ is again one of the most hated in a game mode again aside from ARAM, and I actually managed to stomp some of the other strong champs with her. (Hint::Most banned). QWEQWEQWEQWE all day. Best part is that with all the tryhards queued up for this mode, you should be getting less of them in normal, and if that's your cup of tea, then enjoy it while it lasts. Though I'm kinda wishing it will remain.

Conncept2 votes

Don't see why either, Dominion gives the exact same high-pressure fast paced manic feel, except it is pretty well balanced (in spite of what all the ignoramuses who've never even tried the game mode think), more strategic, and always available.

Though playing URF has given me the thought that the dominion would be improved by giving the 'Crystal Scar Aura' back the healing deficiency and adding a 5-10% CD bonus to match the mana regen bonus.

MrBuffington2 votes

Yeah its kinda fun, but I guess I just dont get the hype

That's why they call it "hype" ;)

At the end of the day, it's still League; it's not like Riot made some sort of game that transcended all of gaming within the same league environment. Though I can't fault you for having that impression, given all the commotion about it (honestly though, after a while it just became a meme, kind of like 'better nerf Irelia' even though Irelia has received one nerf in the past three years. Yea, there were some people legitimately begging every day for the gamemode to come back, but it's not like people aren't overly dramatic about things on a daily basis when it comes to this game; that much is more about the people than the game mode).

Really, URF is just a gamemode that many people (myself included) found to be the most fun of the special game modes that Riot has released thus far (my favorites have been URF, Hexakill TT, Doom Bots, and Poro King). That's really it. Have fun with it while you can, or don't, it doesn't matter, it's not like you must love URF mode. It's just a game, afterall :)

NinjaToad992 votes

URF is great for making stupid team comps/lanes with your friends that normally wouldn't work too well. I've done pull lanes, snare lanes, heal lanes (Well tried to, but both times something made us have to split up to top & bot). That's how I like to play it.

Left Hook Larry2 votes

I don't get it either. I played 2 matches the last time it was out and never again. I just don't see how it can be fun to pick someone like Zed and just spam all of his abilities all game. How is that fun?

Urf was overrated by kids. Every patch/sale you would see someone posting "please bring back urf."

Overhyped trash is what URF is.

Sukishoo2 votes

Yeah, being able to constant spam things cuts out the thought and strategy of the game. So it's like what is the real point here?

I too get it's a "fun mode" but it doesn't need to be something that is around 24/7 365.
