Since we're getting a Tank Rework, we need an MR rework.

At least, I think we do.

It feels like MR doesn't do as much as it should.

It feels less potent than armor in a way.

The highest amount of MR given by a single item is 70 with Banshee's Veil, compared to 100 armor with Thornmail.

And if armor and MR are calculated and scaled differently, please tell me, I can't find a source on that.

And none of that is THAT big of a problem, but what I think is a problem is that I can't think of any TRUE MR items.

What I mean is that it feels like most "MR" items are just items that HAPPEN to have MR.

Take Guardian's Angel.

Yes, it gives you armor and MR, but people don't really BUY it for that reason. They buy it for the passive.

Same with Zz'rot.

No one buys Spirit Visage for the fact that it gives you MR. They buy it for the health regen passive.

Edge of Night has MR, but it feels tacked on. It's an AD item that happens to give you MR. They seem to benefit AD Bruisers and Juggernauts more, to the point that it's kind of hard to defend against heavy AP as a tank without having something you don't need.

Like, increased health from all sources with Spirit Visage will be nice no matter who you are, but we all know it's intended to synergize with champions who can heal themselves. It's not designed to be taken just for MR purposes.

Banner of Command gives MR, but most people just buy it for the passive, and even then...it's very rare to see people buy it ever.

Even Abyssal Scepter, which gives the second most MR of any item at 60, is just an AP item with MR attached, the same way Zhonya's just has armor tacked on.

What I think I'm trying to say is that the way MR items are structured now, it's hard to, as a tank, tank AP due to how inaccessible a lot of items are to you. I think we need more MR items/better ones/reworks of old items that make MR a primary focus instead of an afterthought, at least on a few items.

What do you think?

NO ONE BUYS SPIRIT VISAGE JUST FOR THE MR? 75% (guesstimate) is for people who need health/mr!!! Most tanks or bruisers dont care about the healing passive

No one buys Sunfires for the armor, they buy it for it's shit ton of damage.

No one buys DMP for the armor, they buy it for the speed boost and burst.

No one buys Randuin's for the armor, they buy it for the crit reduction and As slow.

No one buys Frozen Heart for the armor, they buy it for the mana, CDR, and As slow.

No one buys Thornmail for the armor, they buy it because they're Rammus and for it's damage.

And so on.

Just because an item has a unique active or passive doesn't mean people don't buy it for it's stats. The main reason people buy SV is because they want health and MR, or they're Fiora/Illaoi/Vlad/Mundo/etc.

MR items do need a rework though, there's only 2 tank MR items. The damage MR items feel really bad on a tank, unlike the damage armor item (Sunfires/Randuins/Iceborn and Thornmail just sucks)

And I can respect that.

I should have elaborated that this is mostly from a tank point of view.

I feel that armor is more conducive to helping a tank do their job while MR is not.

And I feel that most armor items have armor in mind as a primary function. While most MR items have it as secondary.

The same way armor on Zhonya's isn't the main draw of it, it's mostly an AP item that gives mages a little more survivability.

And that's what most MR items feel like, in my opinion.

MR items are being geared more towards sustained bruisers than tanks, and I feel like that's a problem.

Like, if I'm playing Malph and I need AP, I'm most likely going to build Abyssal. It synergizes well enough, but I'd prefer an item that gives me more MR as a tradeoff for the AP, you know?

I feel like we don't have enough POTENT MR items to justify how many secondary MR items there are, if that makes sense.

Frozen Heart and Thornmail make me feel massively tanky on there own.

I've had 400 armor before, but the max MR I can usually get is around 150 if I'm lucky.

Because most teams have a mix of AD and AP.

And armor items work well with tanks and give a LOT of armor, while MR items don't synergize well with tanks usually, and the amount of MR you get isn't comparable to the armor you'd get for armor items.

MR just feels like less bang for your buck in a way, if that makes sense.

That's because of the attack speed slows on FH - Randuins would work better. Not sure why you think Thornmail is good, it's ok, but generally other items are better.

I just got 140 MR with Spirit Visage + Merc Treads on Camille...

Actually, SV is pretty decent compared to DMP and Randuins, and synergizes pretty well with tanks like Mao. It's just that Banshee's is pretty trash. It gives 55 MR, compared to DMP's 50 and Randuin's 60.

MR just feels like less bang for your buck in a way, if that makes sense.

Eh, I'm not sure why you'd feel that way. Perhaps because Void Staff is usually gotten earlier than LW items?

So, these are all fair points, and it puts a lot into perspective, thank you.

But I still feel that MR, as a stat, could be better.

For instance, we currently have 23 MR items. I consider very few of them to be items you would buy primarily for MR, while I feel more of the armor items are specifically for armor.

What do you think?

MR is arguably a worthless stat. In a pinch, it's better to just buy more HP. Getting past 150 MR is a struggle, and it doesn't even feel good when you do get that much, because the AP damage dealers just shred right through it anyway (half the time even without a item 3135 ).

I agree. And like, whenever I bring this up to my friends, the first thing they bring up is Spirit Visage.

Honestly, I consider that a Health Item with MR benefits.

There are very few items I'd consider to be Primary MR.

It's genuinely hard to combat AP as a tank with MR. Health just does a better job.

That's because most AP damage is burst, and health is very effective against burst because they simply don't have enough damage to get through a health pool (although abundance CDR has affected that). Health only extends your lifespan by a set, small, amount against an ADC (late game), while against mages, it extends your lifespan for however long it takes their cooldowns to come up.

Facing a Cass or something, you'd probably not feel that way.

It's easier to handle for people with eye problems like me so the words have less a chance to blur together.
