I have to give Riot genuine props.

So, I was watching a new gbay video yesterday. It's about an hour and a half long about everything he LOVES in League of Legends. I wanted a video to fall asleep to so I took of my glasses and kinda watched a bit.

But you know what?

I could tell what characters were fighting in the footage.

I'm blind as a bat without my glasses but I could recognize Riven by the angle at which she swings her sword, vs Lucian by the afterimage on his dash and the way he walks and runs.

Like, I'm able to tell my attacks, models, and even basic movements who's fighting who.

Riot has always had the "Sword Swing" Philosophy where if you give every champ a sword they'd all swing it differently.

And they do. Riven smashes and swings while Yasuo slashs and stabs.

Every character is so unique and different and their moves look different and their models are unique and even just looking at a character I could guess some of their mechanics.

They did a great job with their philosophy, and integrating gameplay with story and personality.

Good job, Rito.

If you want to see a game where this was a core philosophy but fell apart, look at TF2. A game where art style was important to recognizing classes as well as what weapons they had which is now a smorgusboard of insanity due to the varied styles, weapons and more that all occupy the same game.

Sure. Even if their designs aren't always the healthiest, the champions are always, and have always been unique.

Riot is really good at this stuff and it shows. Especially considering how many skins are in this game that are still instantly recognizable despite changing them dramatically.

I also wanna mention those new blizcrank skins that got hate because of their walking animations. I understand the sentiment, but the people complaining didn't seem to appreciate just how important a champion's silhouette can be to identify them. Without the goofy walk I imagine he would have read a lot like nautilus at a glance. I know it's disappointing for the skin, but at the end of the day gameplay comes first.

It's true. Hell, I don't even need to see the game to know what's going on. Just by hearing about 10 or so seconds of the game, I can tell who my brother's playing, who his support is, and who the enemy lane is, and anyone else who's botlane. Just off the audio alone.

When looking at strictly visual, there's rarely a time I'm confused as to who's who. Sure, with some skins, it can be a bit tricky at first glance, but generally I'm able to tell instantly. It's amazing.

I too sleep soundly, comforted by the sounds of Gbay99's soothing voice.

I listened to Gbay's long video about what he loves about League, I really enjoyed what he had to say. I'm proud of Riot for creating and maintaining such a great game and keeping the community happy. Ranked mode keeps me playing and happy being able to compete against others. It feels good to earn a rank and work towards improving where you'll actually see it work while you keep playing. I don't see League as a whole dying or weakening anytime soon because Riot knows what they are doing and they are listening to the community and actually care about their game.

I have been around for a really long time, back when half the champs had the mega man feet, and I have to say, for the most part I really like the game, sometimes I take some time off, or skip a season of ranked, but I always come back, I am pretty sure I'm at least partly responsible for one of the devs kids going to college haha, it is a pretty game, and the designs of the champions are always interesting, with fun nods to pop culture tucked here and there

I don't know if anyone here has played Brawlhalla, but it's basically a 2d version of smash brothers. Really fantastic gameplay very good ftp game.

My biggest complaint coming from league, is exactly this; Everyone in that game looks super similar. I often confuse different characters with each other, and what's worse is the skins make it nearly impossible to identify who you are playing against, until you get whacked with a signature you weren't expecting.

Riot has always made sure that readability is key, and not having that makes me appreciate it more. :-D
