To counterpick or not to counterpick?

I'd like to ask you a question. Let's say that your ADC picked MissFortune and your mid picked Yasuo You are top, and MonkeyKing would go great with them: he can knock the entire enemy team up for Yasuo and MF to ult and neatly ace.

The problem is, the enemy top already picked LeeSin He counters wu so hard that he'd basically have won the lane the moment you lock in Wukong.

So, what would you do? Would you pick Wukong, and suffer a terrible lane phase in exchange for a great post-6, or do you counterpick Lee Sin?

(While taking a third option would be the best answer in a real situation, it would dodge the question instead of answering it, so please don't do that now... let's just assume that all third options were banned, or are disabled, or whatever)

Why not both?Malphite . Anyway worry about your own lane first, before you consider picking for team comps. That Yasuo might just turn out to be awful, and then you will have two loosing lanes, in most cases resulting to defeat.

So you'd counterpick Lee... thanks, please vote that in the poll.

I'm a Garen main, so when I run into this situation I go with a piece of advice from the Garen subreddit.

{quoted} Garen. In any matchup. With any comp. Against any comp. In every position. Or dodge.

I'm the kind of guy who would follow this advice to it's logical end. I've played Garen since season 1, and take the time to learn how to properly lane against any and every champion I can. I've learned to play him top, mid, and support, and in past seasons when it was easier I even played him a little bit as an ADC (in normals with a full premade, don't worry). If you put your mind to it you can turn a matchup that should go poorly for you into an easy win, but it's a lot of work for only a small amount of reward.

To me it all depends on whether or not you're willing to pay the price of turning Wukong into a counter for Lee. If you are then pick Wukong and learn as much as you can, otherwise it might be best to just counterpick and not take on any extra risk.
