How to make plants more strategic
Make them function like
's rock crutc- I mean, spires.
Instead of having it so you have this ticking bomb in your jungle that could be used against you any time you're not near enough to them to use them yourself, make it so that in order to use plants you need to "capture" them first.
Basically, all plants that spawn would start off being a neutral purple but would not function until you capture them the same way you capture one of
's spires, you click on them and then channel for a second and then it's captured and online. Once a plant is captured, the enemy team CANNOT use it until a certain amount of time has passed so that they can capture them instead. If a plant is captured by your team then they'd be useable like they are on the PBE now, by auto attacking them. You can also prevent someone from using it by harassing them to keep them from capturing the plant.
This means that using a plant requires set up time because you can't just run through the jungle while being chased, come across a Blast Cone and get to safety just because a plant happened to be there since you have to stop and channel to get the plant. It makes something like coming across an Oak Aye plant while low on health and with a
ult on your head be a desperate attempt to save your life before the ult hits instead of being a "LUCKY!" save. And it means the Scrying plant won't just be knocked out immediately to prevent the enemy from gaining vision of you.
This doesn't solve all the issues with plants, I still feel that there's just not enough different types and that Scryer's Bloom is generic and boring but it would help to alleviate some of the issues of random saves happening and make preparing them before hand much more important.
Also, I know some of you will just come in and say, "Or just don't put them in the game at all!" but if Riot intends to go through with them then I want to give them ideas for how to make them as good as they CAN be so that if we get stuck with something that turns out to be bad then it's at least not AS bad as it could be.
