So... why are people telling me 40% CDR on Lux is bad now?

25% isn't really enough for her lousy cooldowns, and a bit of extra AP doesn't beat having a 30 second cooldown on her laser. With that CD improvement compared to 37.25 seconds, you can more liberally use her laser for pushing waves, and can actually use frequent poke on enemies who are turtling. Not to mention you could actually die from not having that shield up 1 second earlier.

Seriously, you guys, why get Zhonya over Morello when Grail is a prerequisite to support Lux's 130 mana cost E? (As for AA Staff, it takes too long for Lux to charge it.)

Get scaling CDR + CDR mastery + Grail = 40

That's a possible, but you lose out on AP/level glyphs.

Her scalings aren't so great; if I recall correctly her full spell damage rotation at max rank was like 1154 base + 2.2 AP scaling. I'd honestly much rather take the scaling CDR blues + CDR mastery. Gives me more freedom to build other things in the game and use that freed up item slot to build situationally, whether that be by stacking magic pen or by buying a shitload of AP. I used to be a Lux main, and I loved 40% CDR to death, but I don't really think that Morello + Grail is the way to go about it anymore.

My argument there is that without both items, Lux's E will cause her to manaburn frequently.

205% AP ratio without shield 240% with shield, 300% with a passive weaved between offensive spell casts. I'm not saying that you shouldn't rely on CDR and the base damage of her spells mostly, but her AP ratios aren't bad at all, especially for her range.

Think of it this way, you end up with more AP since you get Hourglass over Morello's. You also get the Hourglass active.

AP/level glyphs...?

I'd understand using MR glyphs, but this?

If you aren't running cdr/lvl glyphs on a mage whenever you can get away with it, you're playing massively inefficiently. Like MLDzXnRRR said, cdr/lvl glyphs +cdr masteries + grail will give you a clean 40% cdr and with the OP mana restore passive Athenes has, you can easily support that 40% CDR with just Athenes. The only time I don't run CDR/lvl is if I'm laning against someone who absolutely demands I have early MR like a Leblanc.

Don't let them in on my 25% scaling cdr secret!

Cause their stupid.Max cdr is very important for lux.

Well they're pretty much wrong and you should take your wand and shove it in their face.

Most of the time 40% CDR ASAP is best for Lux.

But if you're fed enough it might be better to get damage after Athene's and such.

The problem is, when you look on Champion.GG, those guys don't get 40% CDR as Lux. They only go 25%.

Either the pros are stupid, or...

It's not always about max CDR. CDR and mana regen are really important on Lux, but you can just as easily win games by having a few quality, high-damage skillshots as you can by having a slew of half-aimed spells. It depends on each match.

I looked at the champion.gg and what I understood was you making assumptions from 130 games.

This is the same argument I always have when I go mid lane Karma. Max CDR on Utility Magee is usually always the way to go since they have quite a lot of CC and poke in their kits as well as wave clear. That and since they were "designed" as supports your bases are relatively high to prolong buying raw AP for awhile. The 40% CDR power spike imo outweighs an early zhonyas active or whatever you'd get instead since the enemy team will most likely not be able to seige you for a long time and it applies more pressure as well. Sure your Lazer or full combo won't hit for AS much but it will come out a lot more frequently which applies Q sense of fear in them (and tbh your full combo at level 11-13 will probablh one shot an out of position squishy anyway regardless of items)

Her spells are on a long cd so you need them to hit as hard as possible in a teamfight. Its much more important to maximize your damage in one rotation than to max CDR, that being said I definitely see the value in CDR/plvl blues

With more CDR you have more DPS because you cast your spells more often. How can that not be good, especially with all the utility she has?

Sometimes the ability to 100-0 a carry is more important than dps. It all depends on the situation.

I'm not going to take a side in the main discussion going on in the thread, but I do feel the need to make a quick point here. Mainly, that this is no always the case. It is only more DPS when fights last long (or you live long enough) for the CDR to have an effect.

If the fight lasts 5.9 seconds, it doesn't matter if you have 40% CDR or 0%, you only get a single rotation of spells off either way.

Scaling CD Glyphs along with CDR Masteries and a Grail is all you need. It opens up her build options exponentially also considering her range, she can afford to give up some early MR.

CDR is life. I find it hard to play mid lane without scaling cdr glyphs, the 40% cdr with just morello or grail feels so good.

Doesn't matter what your cooldowns are if you don't have any mana.
