What if killing someone punished them instead of rewarding you?

EDIT: Let's say that instead of giving 300 gold to the killer it gave 300 gold to everyone except the killed. Let's say that instead of giving 300 gold to the killer it removed 300 gold from the killed.

In 1v1 lanes it should be equivalent to the current system - you'd still get 300g ahead.

What it would change imho is that

  1. There would be no more complaints about ks.
  2. You would have an actual fighting chance to deal with the 25/0/13 Draven ganking your lane.

Uuuh. But that's exactly how it works! :DDDD Oh no wait, all you see is the 300 gold, i see.

No, but I can see why you'd think that: you missed about half of my post. Well done, it wasn't easy.

The idea, as explained from the 2nd line onward in my post, is to keep the reward intact (for killing your lane opponent) while reducing the effect it has on the other lanes.

how would this stop people complaining about ksing? now they'll complain that they get no gold when they do get the kill. What is even the point of you killing someone if it doesn't make you stronger? that's how people who are behind get back into the game. This is essentially just making things even more snowbally since instead of dealing with the one 25/0/13 Draven you have to deal with his entire team with the gold that the Draven would have had. Yeah 4 problems instead of 1 that is such a massive improvement

You and your team too would have that gold, just not your 0/25 adc.

yeah no, how would this stop people from complaining about KSing? how would this even be a better change than what we have to begin with? all you are doing is making the game snowball even harder and be even more out of your control. "i am 0/0/0 didn't feed my enemy once but since someone on my team is 0/10/0 while my lane opponent is 0/0/0 as well he is insanely stronger than me!" yeah good change

You, mid, get 3000g for your top dying 10 times. The enemy mid gets 3000g for your top dying 10 times. Gold difference mid: 0g. The enemy 10/0 top ganks mid: he does not have a full item over you -> you might actually be able to defend against a dive.

It's not that hard.

yeah no. If i am a mid laner, jungler, ADC, support, top, minion, scuttle, baron, dragon, blue buff, red buff, raptors... etc, etc, etc i much rather gain an advantage through my own hands or at the bare minimum prevent my opponent from gaining one as much as possible, instead of relying on my teammates to get me ahead or behind. Stop trying to make this sound good when all it brings is a huge balance issue

Isn't that how DoTA works?

Disulfiram1 votes

No idea, sorry - I've never played DoTA.

That's sort of what is is like in Dota. Support will never buy any items. Passive farm champions like ziggs and aniva will be very strong. People will tilt and rage way harder because you didn't sacrifice yourself to save them.

Mmm... what about giving gold to everyone else instead? You kill your enemy laner, and everyone except him gets 300g.

Mecha MaIphite1 votes

Dying is already punished with death timers. You can't farm, pressure objectives, or teamfight when you're dead or walking back from base.

Also, how would you deal with people having negative gold, or a jungler camping a lane to keep them at 0? They would have no way to get back into the game, whereas right now, they can at least afford to build defense and still be somewhat useful.

That's just rewarding anything else.

In some cases, you would even be incentivized not to get a kill if their team had champions that snowballed harder than yours.

That is one of the reasons I refuse to play Dota, I'm dead humiliated and can't play but here's some more punishment. Hurt me MOAR DAWG IM SO FUCKING CRAZY BWUHUWHUWHUHHUWHU. No thanks.

how about no.

dying already has a punishment. it's the time out box. when you die the game literally sits you out and tells you "here's what you did wrong and some ways to fix it"

it's like having an old nanny throw in the towel for you every time your hp hits zero. or in my case an abusive parent figure that yells at you and tells you how worthless you are for not being able to pull yourself up by your own bootstraps and be as successful as they were through snow and up hills both ways.

not realizing that by sitting you out you're constantly being belittled and worn down to nothing until one day you finally just give up and stop trying because everyone else is so far ahead from never being put in the time out box.

You do realize there already is a gold bounty in the game in addition to that time out box, don't you?

BLACK REALM GOD1 votes

yes. it prevents the team that has a star player or exceptional match up from running away with the game without further punishing the player or players that are having issues against them. in fact there are certain strategies where you feed your support to a player that isnt doing so well on the opponents team and then kill them to get their gold and gold bounty for your team.

i think it's like... 3 kills gives you a bounty and then it's adjusted based on k/d/a
