Sterak's Gage Buff Suggestion

Sterak's Gage

As Meddler stated, Sterak's is receiving some buff(s) in 7.19~7.20. I play with juggernauts and divers most of the time, and i really wanted to build this item most often due to the idea behind it - burst defense for team fights + damage boost - but it really doesn't appeal very much due to the inconsistency of it's shield, leaving the item behind when comparing to others options such as Gargoyle's. Here's some quick ideas to make it more consistent and impactful:

LIFELINE'S SHIELD: Lasts 3 seconds and rapidly decays over it's duration -> Lasts 3 seconds and rapidly decays on it's last second of duration

Shield's bonus health scaling decreased from 75% to 50% (compensation for the duration buff, which still would make it absorb more damage than the actual one). The shield is doubled if LIFELINE is activated while 3 or more enemy champions are nearby (1200 units).

LIFELINE and STERAK'S FURY are restricted to melee champions only.

LIFELINE's shield does not scale with bonus health from actives of other items such as Gargoyle's Stoneplate health increment.

edit1 (suggestion from replies): STERAK'S FURY lasts until you are out of combat.

Sterak's Gage path item change (for life quality):

Jaurim's Fist: UNIQUE: Killing a unit grants 5 bonus health, stacking up to 30 times for a maximum of 150 bonus health. -> Gain 2 bonus health per farm score point up to 150 bonus health.

"Tired of being told that you’re a ‘melee damage-dealer’ while being blown up at the beginning of a teamfight? Look no further - Sterak’s is here for all your berserking needs. In testing the juggernaut update and identifying problems with the class, we found that there’s a lot of ambient damage in big brawls, and no one catches more of it that they do. While a 5-man Command: Shockwave into committed AoE stacking will still probably wreck your body (and your entire team), buying Sterak’s poses an interesting dilemma for opponents; focus you down or contain you just long enough to deal with your team. You’ll still need to gage how much damage you can take (the thing’s not gonna make you invincible), but Sterak’s is a strong anti-aoe purchase to turn you into the raid boss you always knew you could be."

here is what other people already suggested, and i liked.

  • when lifeline triggers, make steraks ad bonus persist until youre out of combat. (same as maws lifegrip passive)
  • make the shield decay much slower like you suggested
  • add 30% tenacity to the shield (the tenacity is lost when the shield is broken)

one interesting way to go about it is to make the tenacity, or the shield decay speed dependent on how many enemies are nearby.

for example, the more enemies are around, the slower the shield decays on its own.

I might have suggested that somewhere

I also wanted the shield to activate at 40% hp or so to make it more reliable I mean right now if Caitlin headshot crits you from 1300 range to poke you it triggers and makes you feel awkward

Look if i let people poke me down to below 40% as a juggernaut or other beefy boi then sure whatever but just some random poke thrown your way, worse it its one of those ballooning shitboxes, triggering it just feels bad

I kinda just want it to be like maw

But it would be even more awkward, since any damage would make it activate, even a support AA. There's a lot of situations where you have 25~50% health and still pushing or fighting. Hexdrinker/Maw only activate at certain health % because you need to take magic damage, which isn't common as any form of damage.

Yea you are right

Hadn't thought of it that way yet

Yeah, i really like those ideas as well. I don't think tenacity would be very good in terms of balance tho... The only thing that makes Juggernauts counterable is CC; touching that can be dangerous. Instead, it could give bonus movement speed towards enemy champions, a tool to gap close.

I really think that the build path needs to be buffed as well, cuz Jaurim's fist is a awful mid tier item. The idea of "tear"-like item doesn't work if the stacking bonus isn't transferred to the final item. That's why i proposed that change too, since you generally start to build Sterak's after 1~2 items, where you definitively have at least 75 of cs.

I think instead of X% tenacity, it could be an effect where once the shield pops, it breaks you free of any CC (perhaps ignoring suppressions and maybe even airborne effects) and grants something like .5 seconds of 75% tenacity. This would allow it to function both as a way to continue chasing OR make an easier getaway, especially if you've been locked down by a CC chain.

Sterak’s is a strong anti-aoe purchase

Let's give this item 30% resistance to damage over time, %health and AoE effects instead.

Rathar Dashing1 votes

All three? Jesus...

I think each one of those could be it's own interesting item... and the DoT resistance one already exists.

Yeah, forgot about item 3194 , but %hp and aoe resistance is something missing yet...

Or at least I hope they add %hp resistance to item 3071 to make it a true juggernaught item, and just leave item 3053 with aoe resistance.

I build it on my tanky Tryndamere that I climb ranked as is, for what that's worth. It's awesome being unkillable and then living for 5 additional seconds when you should already be long dead.

I don't see it being any good w/o both item 3748 and item 3071 though, which I think is its main issue. Adequate damage from items is such a priority now. Aside from weird builds like mine it makes perfect sense that it currently doesn't see play. I'm both scared and excited that it might become the new Atma's Impaler, though.

I'm particularly glad they specifically made it known that it doesn't interact with Stoneplate! That is looong overdue; it's been like that for a while I think.

Isn't the new Jaurim's Fist very underwhelming? It's already complained that it's a pretty bad component item. So why reduce it from 5 hp to a 2 hp per cs? Is the new Jaurim hp bonus effect based on current cs score?

Lil Homie busta1 votes

Yeah.

Makes more sense to me than stacking a mid tier item that is generally purchased at least with 15 minutes of game. This way you could receive immediately the bonus health, if you have 75 CS. sure, the numbers may be needing balance, but you get the idea

The item seems underpowered. At least give the damn thing some AD and not the stupid base ad thing it has now.
