how do you play a different role that youre not used to playing?

So, i've been playing support almost solely for 5 years now (aside from some time in the jungle in like s4) and I find it hard to try playing anywhere else. Back when i was newish i could switch roles easily because everything was about the same difficulty but now that I know basically every counter and can predict all the moves and outcomes in bot lane, when i try to play jungle for example i find myself playing as though i was blind. Like I have no concept of how the enemy jungler is functioning or whether or not i am to expect a counter jungle gank.

I played jungle a lot in the season before they overhauled it and it changed significantly enough to shift my preferred jungler at the time out of the meta which lead me back to support. Now if i were to play jungle I'd feel as though i was hurting my team because im simply not as good at it as support.

Similarly if i were to play top which i played for a short time many years ago I wouldnt be able to play as effectively in a lane where most of my champs would be melee since it's simply so foreign to me. I'd similarly feel as though i wasnt contributing enough to my team though not to the same detriment as if i had been jungling.

For those of you who play multiple roles, do you remember what it's like to switch into one youre not familiar with? For me it just seems less fun because I cant predict nearly as much as if I were in bot. Also I feel like the current state of the game is really punishing, one death can lose your lane or potentially the entire match.

You simply practice, preferably starting with simple champions. When you are very comfortable with your role/champ you're able to shift your focus to the map and the rest of the game beyond just what's in front of you, so when you try something new suddenly you get tunnel vision pretty hard; the only way to get rid of that is keep practicing to become comfortable. You probably won't be able to match your skill in your main position within a month or two, but if you keep at it it'll come to you.

You hit that que button. Over and over and over again. And then do it again just to be sure.

With the exception of your previous top gameplay example I find that a person maining top, mid, or bot has difficulty moving into the jungle, whereas a jungler has more difficulty moving into laning. My best advice is to go into normals and do your best with a focus on learning and having fun. /muteall will be your friend. Or you could create a new account with its sole purpose being to learn different roles. Last bit of advice I have is to watch informative youtube videos about lane control in each lane and researching how lane match ups work with whatever champ you want to play. Really though, it's just a game and you should try to have fun. I find that if I have fun I generally do well and I switch between all roles quite often.
