Most of Yasuo's problems could be solved with one simple yet crazy change...

Melledoneus··21 votes·1,874 views

"Yasuo's basic attack crits no longer proc on-hit bonus effects."

Think about it. This kills Frozen Mallet on Yas, Triforce on Yas, he can no longer perma-on-hit you, he can no longer build BoRK and shred you, and he actually has to Q to proc Phantom Dancer.

Of course, this seems like a huge itemization blow to Yasuo and maybe he would need some adjustments, but he would be a lot less annoying with this change alone, judging by how many of his problems are his interactions with items.

Just a thought.

EDIT: Lifesteal does not count as a bonus on-hit in this case. So Yasuo will not lose lifesteal on his crits.

If there was a list of the worst ideas ever this would be on it

Melledoneus6 votes

I'd like to know why, if you don't mind explaining.

Salron6 votes

It's hard to not just respond with "Because No." but i'll try

Frankly the idea of removing on hits from any champion's basic attack sounds ridiculous to begin with, but beyond that this would do the things you say it would

For example, this would by no means "kill" mallet on Yasuo as all he needs is one EQ on you to apply it and he will be able to constantly reapply it after that with Q since mallet lasts 1.5s and Q's CD is 1.33 at lowest.

All this does is make onhits MUCH weaker on him but doesn't make them unusable by any means Not to mention you could just buy PD and no other crit item and remain at 60% crit, and get on-hit applied to non-crits

######Not to mention the idea of autoattacking someone and NOT applying redbuff makes me want to kms

Melledoneus3 votes

Then perhaps his Q CD could be upped a bit but the power increased? It feels like an ability that's thrown away so easily for such a central part of his kit. Even Karthus Q feels more wasted when missed than a Yasuo Q once he gets attack speed.

Also, I think that choosing between crit and on-hit would make Yasuo a more diversely built champion. You mentioned building 60% crit and getting on-hits. That would be getting some of both, but you're not as powerful as one or the other.

For a champion that works with crit, I feel that his drawback should be that it's crit that he gets, but he misses out on the bonus power of items he could get that other carries get (BoRK, PD).

It's as if Riot releases a tank that is great anti-AD, great anti-mage, and great health. You can't have all of that in one package without giving up a lot of it. Similarly, Yasuo would be better off accessing one or the other rather than using everything in one conglomerate mess.

Salron6 votes

He already has a drawback for crits He has a crit damage penalty built in

Melledoneus2 votes

So why not reduce that penalty to compensate?

Salron6 votes

Well at that point the penalty wouldn't be very noticable anymore You're also starting to delve pretty deep into too many simultaneous changes to the point where it's hard to theorize whether or not this would make him a healthier champion or not

Most importantly, this wouldn't change the fact that people will still hate him, that fact is based on his kit alone He isn't a balance problem atm either so not much would be accomplished by making changes like those

Melledoneus2 votes

Then how do you propose making the infamous FM-PD combo no longer viable on Yasuo?

You don't, because it's not breaking the game right now.

You're trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. Yasuo is fine right now. Balanced. Not too strong, not too weak, except arguably top lane with a blade of the ruined king, and arbitrarily depriving Yasuo of the item that everyone who can build does won't solve the problem that the item is far too strong right now.

Melledoneus2 votes

BoRK is a different discussion entirely.

Also, you can make changes to make a champion have healthier design even if they're not strong. Aatrox, Poppy, and Yorick are all a testament to that fact.

Those champions were unbalancable, and all were quite bad before their reworks. Neither is true of Yasuo.

Melledoneus1 votes

Aatrox was in a reasonably similar spot to Yasuo before he was nerfed.

No he wasn't, he was one of the worst champions in the game lol.

Errastas1 votes

Maybe just have his dash have charges, he can hold 3-5, and a fair cooldown so he isn't completely dumpstered. Just my 2 cents.

Estrynund1 votes

Well that's cool because redbuff is on attack.

IPromiseTomorrow10 votes

The least you could do is give your reasoning. This is only hate

Salron5 votes

There are some things that are too dumb to put deeper articulation into Like what if I just said we should disable TP on champions like TF and Shen because they have it built into their kits and gave a couple sentences on why I think it's a good idea?

That's where you just say "no"

IPromiseTomorrow8 votes

If we're talking yasuo balance I need data that proves you're right about what you say I would rather not talk about summoner spells and other extremities like

"disable TP on champions like TF and Shen because they have it built into their kits" Face the Win

If there is no reality on what is communicated , it's not going to be real enough to talk about.

Worse than giving him energy or removing his crit entirely? Really?

The mere idea of making an making an AA based champion not get the benefits of onhit on their AAs digusts me

Yasuo main detected.

Must have realised a good idea for a nerf to his main has come up and is doing his best to stamp on it.

Estrynund1 votes

You're named after a Yasuo quote, hating on a quite good idea for a potential Yasuo nerf and you want to call me bigoted for pointing this out?

Take the $30 weeaboo katana you probably have and gut yourself with it.

Salron1 votes

So i'm not allowed to criticize an idea because my name is a yasuo pun? ok bud

You're clearly biased. I can't stop you from criticising it but I can call you out on your bias towards Yasuo. Especially since he's been in your top 3 most played champs since season 4.

Salron1 votes

So then tell me Whats the issue here again? Your entire argument seems to consist of "you have a lot of yasuo games played, therefore your opinion is bad because that makes you biased"

Proven. I beat a Yasuo up as Yorick.

But if only his non-crits apply on-hits, then wouldn't he be screwing himself over by building as he is supposed to? His lifesteal and everything else would be lessened the stronger he gets, which would be rather intuitive. I'd see Yasuo start building full bruiser with no crit at all, making his crit doubler passive useless.

Unrelated: I noted today that most of my favorite people on the boards have names beginning with M.

Couldn't they just make his Q crit, like they did MF's ulti? I can't see that being a problem. Lifesteal on him is so hard to deal with late game but I guess it's pretty necessary. As long as he doesn't start building like Graves(which he might, due to the Death's Dance buffs), I think lifesteal on Q would be okay.

TyrekGoldenspear2 votes

His Q can already crit. It is a skillshot treated as a basic attack that also applies on hit effects.

I know his Q can already crit, I was saying if you removed on-hits from his Q, it'd be easy enough to make crits/lifesteal still proc on it so that his normal build isn't hurting because of removing on-hits. It doesn't have to be treated as an auto attack to benefit from critical strike/lifesteal(See: Miss Fortune R for proof that not only basic attacks can be made to crit). I don't think Yasuo is supposed to build much on hit in the first place honestly. They want him to build crit and damage. Right now he builds tanky right after he gets 100% crit. Honestly I won't be surprised if he goes a Graves build with frozen mallet once Death's Dance gets it's buff. He'll basically be Graves 2.0(with more damage). The only problem is Frozen Mallet. He shouldn't be building this, it's already hard enough to get away from him when in a lane as it is. If Riot thinks he SHOULD be building frozen mallet, then that's fine, but they already tried to get rid of him building it once, which didn't pan out. I do agree with the wind wall thing also though. You can shoot an ability and it'll be right on top of him, and he can W LATE and still negate your CC/damage. It's pretty infuriating. Even doing it myself when playing Yasuo, it just feels plain dirty.

King of Mongoose5 votes

lol what the fuck this is the worst idea i have ever seen

The Lost Marbles4 votes

As annoying as Yasuo is, I think that's too heavy-handed a solution. (It also potentially guts him if it counts life steal as an on-hit effect.)

Make his critical modifier a bit weaker than it currently is, but have it scale up with his level. Takes some of the bite out of his early item power spike without making him too weak later on.

Just a thought.

Also, "has to Q to proc Phantom Dancer". I think you mean E, because his Q can crit as well.

Aptest4 votes

I think this cuts severely into Yasuo's ability to build items.

I think it is really unfair towards yasuo players if they can't build FM, BC, BOTRK, gunblade etc if they feel they need to.

He doesn't look like he is in a broken state right now. So a straight nerf is not IMHO a good idea. What should be addressed is rather points of frustration I.E. being in a state of constantly getting "outplayed" "zero-optioned" in lane, lack of openings in Yasuo's kit, insufficient reward for actually outplaying him etc.

ZT Xperimentor2 votes

It'd be more effective than that -10% critical hit damage they call his passive, lol.

AmazoX4 votes

There's 2 more things you are missing:

  1. Steel Tempest has -25% reduced critical strike damage
  2. His AS obtained from items is capped at 55%
Spicy Rice3 votes

Just gonna clarify the second part.

It's not his attspd, but rather the amount of attack speed that can be used to reduce his q cd is capped at 55%

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

The first ends up negated once he gets an infinity edge. And his auto-attacks can still reach a speed of 2.5 per second.

Lauchmelder2 votes

Just give him mana (with fairly low mana costs) so he can't just keep spamming his E through countless minion waves.

TyrekGoldenspear3 votes

Then Yasuo builds essense reaver and gets infinite mana with his crit chance reaching 100% so easily.

On top of that he gets CDR.

Lauchmelder1 votes

I actually thought about that, but what would that mean for the rest of his build?

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

I honestly have no clue. Off the top of my head I can't recall Yasuo's current build.

But Manamune could be another option for him if he had mana. And Triforce.

Lauchmelder1 votes

Either way, something needs to gate his E. A new resource called Stamina maybe?

Sad Tyrant2 votes

nah, that's a bad idea as multiple people said due to itemization block because of it.

what we need is changes to the system and Yasuo's P, W and E.

All current final crit items have the crit changed to 25 percent

he no longer gets Double crit chance

the duration of his W is reduced by 66 - 75% and it gains a passive crit chance 5 - 25% over the ranks

and his E is on a stack system that disables it for 15 seconds after 6 dashes with each stack on a 2.5 cooldown

AmazoX2 votes

What you listed is gutting not balancing.

Sad Tyrant2 votes

it guts, so they can have room to buff him in other areas
