What if Ornn's Q was an aa reset at close range?

Title says it all. What if his Q would also throw in a melee attack vs a target in melee range of him (targeted if close enough). That would give Ornn much better synergy with black cleaver as well as titanic hydra. At long range, it would be unchanged from current functionality.

But it's a skill shot not an empowered auto attack.....

yeah, my point is to change the skill it so that if he uses it at point blank on someone, it will AA that enemy and shoot it through them instead being a skill shot. Kind of like how talon can either blink to someone and hit for low damage, or he can attack in melee for bonus damage. Similar concept.

So, use it outside melee range, the skill is exactly as-is. But if you use it targeted on an enemy in your AA range, then it will AA that enemy and fire through them, as though your hammer hit to cause the shockwave came down on top of their head.

You just crushed his intended synergy with his E for that teamfight knock-up.

Why does he even need additional damage when he has:

  • Bonus AD scaling on Q.
  • Enemy %HP on his W.
  • Magic damage that scales with Armor/MR on E.
  • Tons of upgraded items for both him & his teammates to purchase.

Ornn deals pathetic damage. Also, his E is physical.

His Q, much like talon's, will still be used at range much of the time. But once Ornn has closed the distance and is in melee, it will provide a bit of much-needed oomph that his kit is missing. Its secondary effect will be unchanged - AOE going through target and leaving a pillar that Asians directly behind first enemy champion hit. But he will get some added scaling vs the specific target he's attacking.

Again, why is damage even his thing when he can provide a ton of team-CC with his kit? He's a Supportive Tank, not a Juggernaut.

Because Ornn loses. A lot. He needs to be buffed.

I've played quite a lot of Ornn games myself, and his damage is quite fine with his W & aa-knockback combo. You're just not playing him right.

Plus he's still relatively new, people need to give more time to know him better.
