State of mages in arams?

I know not all mages are equal in power, but do you guys think mages in general are too strong or too weak in arams?

Me personally, I find that adcs, assassins, bruisers are much more powerful and dominating over mages. All three classes have constant damage on their auto attacks and some with their abilities. Auto attacks not costing mana. Bruisers having more health so they can take a beating or tank a bit of damage while still dishing out damage.

Everytime I get mages on my team, they are always in the back doing nothing during their cooldowns or when having no mana. I get that their auto attacks are not as significant and I'm not blaming them why they are just sitting in the back running up and down because they cannot make significant help during an all out fight. But I just feel like mages are underwhelming at least in arams.

Both assassin and mage have burst but after mage is out of mana or on cooldown, the assassin wins in dishing out more damage. The adcs can constantly attack. bruisers can just keep on fighting as they tank and do damage. Mages just sit in the back because they are oom or on cooldown. Always feels bad when you see a fight finish and this mage is in the back full hp cuz they are out of mana or waiting for cooldowns and everyone is dead.

Yes definitely not all mages are bad. Zyra is also a very powerful mage imo. Huge damage and some cc. Idk, maybe it's just the elo im at in arams and the players playing mages are just not utilizing the mage to it's fullest. It is arams after all. And maybe the other classes I mentioned are more skill-friendly. Just hate having a team full of mages or 3 mages in arams, usually means high lose chance.

They are loosing by attrition and until you complete tear you will go dry fast without option of replenishing, CD is same story and also mages need items to do damage they dont kill with only tome but assassin can with only dirk and biggest problem is MR is counter them hard they just cannot do anything to 4k hp MR tank who can just stright walk to them and kill. Generaly mages are reduced do CC bots while ADs do brunt of damage.

Yeah, I always build tear a lot on mages especially in arams because fights and skirmishes happen very frequently. That's why I buy it on champs I don't normally buy it on such as annie, ziggs (i dont play ziggs unless i get him in arams), oriana. Tear is just such a great mana item. And almost all mage champions who rely heavily on cooldown, I always get ludens first. It's such a great ap item with passive and 20 cdr.

Even if I run out of mana I still auto as a mage. Even autos proc scorch and the other one that I can not think of the name of XD.

Yeah but again maybe it's because it's arams and people playing don't know how to auto attack as a mage. In arams in the games I play, most people who get mages who dont have auto based attacks like teemo, kayle, azir, tend to sit back and never auto attack. They just do a few spell rotations, then sit in the back and run back and forth. It looks almost like they don't know whether they should go in or not but i know it's really just they are waiting on cooldowns or mana. But in those moments, they could still auto attack while everyone is going all out, but they don't.

Yea I have seen to. But not me I love the chaos of arams so I like to be in the thick of it.... though if am a mage I stick a bit back so I do not die to quickly.

Assassins are generally the weakest in ARAM. Mages are all over the board. Some are great. Others not so great.

Hmm are they? What about pike, yi, katarina though? (i know kat is kinda a mage, but i feel like they sorta fit the assassin bill) They seem to do really well especially pike and kat with their reset aoe ult.

Rant Why the heck does riot think it's fair to give pike an aoe ult that resets... AND DOES TRUE DAMAGE? I dont even care if there is a wind up time. That is bs. Even darius you have to be close up, and have 5 stacks first, then your ult isn't even aoe. I'm not saying darius ult is weak, but pike's is like darius but a lot better.

Many mages are heavily nerfed in ARAM but they are still decent. ADC is the stongest class right now.

Yeah I sorta agree with this that adcs are very strong in arams, They still have their squishy weakness but ive had very hard matches where the enemy has 2 or more adcs. I lost a game where there were 4 adcs and 1 diana while we had 2 tanks, 1 mage, 1 yummi, 1 jayce who was going more for the duskblade youmuu build instead of adc build. Those adcs all focus and rekt us as well as taking our towers easily.

Mages have both +/-. Most mages usually have some sort of CC to either engage or disengage. Miss a skill shot and you are caught between a rock and a hard place. Also, a lot of mages have longer range than assassins, bruisers, and adc. This gives advantage to mages in aram in regards to kiting with their abilities. I agree that AD does more consistent dps, mages are more do short burst to zone out dmg dealers and by the time dmg dealers comes back, their cooldowns are back up again. When it comes to mana problems, either they aren't managing their abilities correctly or just trying to harass or poke. There are items and runes to help them. On the sorcery rune, manaflow band might help with mana consumption but doesn't give defensive bonus like nullify orb. item 3802 also helps.

AOE + CC and/or heals + shields

All of this sounds pretty good and I can see mages doing a lot better in higher skill games. Sigh, I'm just in those games where most players, maybe even myself, don't know how to utilize a mage properly and feel underwhelming especially in arams where all in teamfights happen often.

All of those are ok, but lets be real here. Whens the last time you saw an Azir do anything other than be completely useless.
