That is false, promo series let players know they need to be lucky to advance. A divisional series requires you to have a 75% win rate which is absurd. "1 to get into the series then a best 2 out of 3, so you need 3/4 victories." League series are a little bit better at 66% win rate, both are still far too high. Not to count in the other factors of promo series promoting nothing but toxicity. What better game to troll on than one your teamate cares 100x more about? Which better game to get upset about than the one that actually matters. Promo series are bad for the game in almost all ways.

Yeah I guess you can lose a game to get into your series forgot about that. OH wait, you need to win a game to get into your series every time! Then a best 2 out of 3, so lets take this slow. In order to promote you must win 1 game to get into your series, then win 2 more out of 3 to promote, so you need to win 3 out of 4 games to promote. What is 3/4 as a percentage. Oh its 75%.

You don't have to win those games in a row. You are allotted mistakes. Where as with the game getting into the series and the series itself between all 4 of those games you are allotted 1 mistake, which means no matter what 3 out of 4 of those games have to be a victory or it is impossible to win your series. You cant enter a series on a loss*.

I responded earlier with the proper math. Your use of probabilities is off even with the 2/3 versus 3/4 argument.

I'm not talking probabilities of winning your series. I am saying your win % in the games to get promoted needs to be 75%, they are completely different things we are talking about.

No they aren't the same, I understand what you are talking about your chance to win and the % of games you had to win are not the same. No matter how you look at it you have to win in that block of 4 games 75% of them, your chances of winning 75% of them are as you stated in your math up higher.
Also I didn't get trolled just unlucky, aside from maybe 1 game in all 9 series which is fine. All I said is the expectations for series are too high, and it promotes toxicity by having games that matter far more.
Firu2 votesYour math is a bit off. Let's work through this. First, let's assume you belong at the Elo you're at (though if you're up for promotion than you may actually be better). Riot's system assumes that you should have a 50% win rate at this point. The system then requires you to win 2 of the next three matches. Assuming you are at that 50% win rate, the chance of you doing so are as follows:
**Scenario 1: ** You win the first two games. .50% x .50% = 25% chance of this scenario occurring.
**Scenario 2: ** You lose the first game but win the next two. .50% x .50% x .50% = 12.5% chance of this scenario occurring.
Scenario 3: You win the first game, lose the second, but win the third. .50% x .50% x .50% = 12.5% chance of this scenario occurring.
If you sum up those chances, then you'll we see that you are still at a 50% chance of winning promotions if you are CORRECTLY placed in your current Division. However, those odds get increasingly better in your favor if your win rate for your current division is higher than 50%. Let's assume you have a 60% win rate at your Division.
Scenario 1: You win the first two games. .60% x .60% = 36% chance of this scenario occurring.
**Scenario 2: ** You lose the first game but win the next two. .40% x .60% x .60% = 14.4% chance of this scenario occurring.
Scenario 3: You win the first game, lose the second, but win the third. .60% x .40% x .60% = 14.4% chance of this scenario occurring.
In this case, you actually have a better chance of being promoted if you are actual better than the Division you are currently placed in (64.8% chance to move up).
