Everyone: "THERE IS WAY TOO MUCH DAMAGE IN THE GAME" Riot: "Removes AP from the game"
Everyone: "Loses their shit"

i think its because mage and ap assassin mains have taken more hits to their damage than any other class in the past and riot keeps buffing death cap like that's supposed to help with its garbage build path and being super expensive while also being a verry poor choice for a 1st or 2nd item.
It's not even a nerf to AP items considering you're going to go Archangel's Staff and get two mana items. The average champion will have around 2700 to 2800 mana when fully charged. This means that Archangel's will provide a total of 130 to 135 AP which was more than Morello. Add to the fact that Rabadon bonus AP is being increased by 5% more than makes up for the 20 AP you're losing on Luden and the 10 AP on Void. People just can't do math.

Except unlike before -- it's actually worth upgrading from tear right away meaning you'll get the 8 stacks then and there. I play Lux for example which has longer CDs on her basic abilities then nearly every single other mage. A level 10 Lux with 0 stacks on Archangel's would have 1398 mana. That's an extra 42 AP from the passive on top of the 50 basic AP the item already provides. That mean Archangel provides 92 AP and it only goes up from there as you get stacks and more levels absolutely destroying what Morello gives in the current version (100 AP)
Honestly AP champs do tons of damage since runes cut a bunch of default me from the game. I think the main issue is that big AP values are really satisfying and people really miss the nice round benchmark of 500 AP late midgame.
Before, you'd buy 3 items and see that spike and see some of your scalings start to overtake your base damages, and it was really satisfying and visually clear that you bought a bunch of damage, and would do a bunch of damage. Same reason current sorcery keystones are so much less popular than Thunderlord's, same reason people laughed at scorch. Pure on-paper satisfaction.
Nowadays mages still hit like a truck, especially with some pen - but we don't get the big numbers, so it's not as clear until I QW the adc on Morgana and realize that even just ignite would have finished them. Shit's insane.

Well, max. 1, maybe 2 ap champs per game min. 2-3 ad champs per game :[
I dont have a problem with riot nerfing damage. I have a problem when riot nerfs only mages damage and leaves the most reliable dps source untouched which can achieve burst per second.
