@Riot, Can we discuss about support?

With the mage update coming mid-year, I was wonder about traditional support been look at? Many of the recent support champion like Bard, Tahm kench and Barum have a good kit and theme that satisfy players. They felt good to use and you have an impact in game. I have no worried about the upcoming reworked Taric would be success despite the numbers might be overtune or undertune on release (similarity to Barum or Tahm Kench release).

Now what's my concern with support currently? I'm concern about traditional support champion being lackluster and unsatisfying to play as. Tanky support has less margin of error of being punished when making a mistakes compare to squishy support. Some of the squishy support felt unsatisfying when play well. Squishy support have to play almost prefect to have about the same impact as tanky support. Squishy support does not have not much damage and have a good cc in their kit, but tanky support have about the same amount of cc as squishy.

My other problem is the amount of support item for squishy support. Currently the only good support item is gold generating item, sightstone, mikael, ardent censer, zeke and locket. Their great, but my problem is you have to build them almost every game. There's not enough variety to use otherwise. Beside those items, either you build resistance that the tanky support benefit more than squishy or build ap that most squishy support does not have a very good ap scaling. I want more items that can answer against certain team comp like full ad team or have items that can benefit my other teammates beside the adc.

Some of the traditional support are awesome to play like Morgana, Janna, Zilean, Lulu and Soraka which they have a good theme and kit. The problem is there some support that plays similar but does the job better. Sona and Nami have almost the same kit but nami is better in terms of damage and cc. Nami has a knockup and better poke than sona. Sona has a very linear playstyle of using her passive and q to do damage. It's not bad for a support to have simple kit, but Sona have a unhealthy playstyle of doing damage. She usual either overpower because you have no answer to dodge her poke or felt underwhelming. I want a reason to pick sona beside poke and better damage.

Riot, if you seen reading this, please share your thought about support currently.
