Jungle Leona.

Why isn't it a common thing?

She has clear. She has gank potential. She has strong duel power. She has flexible build paths to accommodate the matchup. She can be played as a tank, bruiser, support, or assassin.

Her only downside is, she has weak drag pressure due to a lack of sustained damage to kill a drag in a reasonable amount of time and come out of it healthy.

Her clear is actually very slow compared to traditional junglers.

its not, as long as you skip chickens on first clear. 15AD runepage, with her Q being a AA reset on a short CD actually clears camps at a rate about equal to leesin. Minus jumping over walls.

As a diamond player who occasionally screws around with Leo in the jungle...

Don't.

Her clear is abysmal and the game is far too fast paced these days for her to be effective. Also, I get why you want to max q first as jungle Leo. It's the wrong skill. Level the shield, buy bamis, her clear is cut in half. You won't need short cd q until people can survive a full rotation of her lockdown or teamfighting starts in earnest.

lol I never said max Q tho. I said its a AA reset. Obviously you max W silly goose.

Her clear is pretty slow, and a lot of that is due to lack of sustained damage and her MOVE SPEED.

Jungle Leona would be a thing if she could proc her own passive on jungle monsters.

But yeah, its fun. But not something thats going to make it in high level play.

Put it this way:

Clear: + Duelling: ++ Ganking: +++++

Ganks are the only reason to play her. Pit her against any conventional jungler and you'll see her fall behind if her ganks somehow fail. However, they seldom do unless your laner is a totally cc-less lategame hypercarry that doesn't do damage early. If you can get a few early ganks off, you're set. If not, you'll be a tank who can't really tank nor do damage for majority of the game especially on a jungler budget.

Only time I actually feel behind when my ganks are failing, is vs Nunu and Nidalee. In the event that I find myself not having successful ganks and a shortage of gold. I just build pure support tank. Its cheap and effective for peels at the very least.

Id rank her more like Clear ++++ Dueling ++++ Ganking +++++ Objective pressure +

Having good clear 'for Leona' does not mean she has good clear in comparison. I think you're just shirking the strengths of a lane-present Leona-- not to mention you're now two supports up. Leona can't really push (like Xin or Evelynn could manage) and she doesn't really have the kind of area or map command that the likes of Fiddlesticks or Nocturne have. She has high CC, but a lot of jg picks do-- and some of them, like Ivern, come with more than just the control.

I think the reason she doesn't see more use is that she's not an optimal pick. Unless your enemy's comp was particularly easily outed by roots/stuns, she just seems like a watered down option compared to lots of others. For what a JG has to accomplish, you could get a pick that would move your team further.

I don't know how viable it is or isn't, I'm just saying other picks will have a more fluid time with less finnicky workings, and might experience a more ready opportunity for comebacks if they fall behind. I could see Leona suffering from being behind, moreso than other melee picks, because she doesn't exactly scale to AD (so her individual buys are worth less, in theory).
