A REAL look at ekko. (Long detailed read)
Lengthy post.
The amount of INSTANERF screaming is a bit silly, in my opinion. Yes, Ekko has some solid utility and is a good assasin. But people just hate assasins when they do their job. People still want Lb, Zed, Akali nerfs. No one likes to get blown up.
Also a huge factor is the newness of the champ. People arent comfortable playing against him, and then when they get beat, it isnt because they didnt play well enough, its because the champ is op. I think refusing to learn how to play against a champ is a terrible mindset of alot of the community, at least here on the forums.
Passive - At max, 360 + 70% AP damage, if target has been proc'd 3 times. Pretty strong Passive, but there are other's out just as, if not more powerful.
Aniva/Aatrox/Sion/Zac/Karthus - All give extra life/time for extra damage and attacking, pretty powerful passives. Naut gets a stun and extra damage Voli gets a 30% heal when he drops below 30% hp Kat gets her damned CD resets ( I hate this one most) Anni gets repeat stuns
I feel like there are plenty of other great passives that exist. Ekko's is based around his assasin thing, and people just hate assasins when they do what they are to do.
Q - AP ratio on outgoing Q is 20%, incoming in 60%. It has respectable incoming ratios's but not great, and outgoing one is low. The BASE damage is 120/160 at max rank. Those are low base damages. Its not a real powerful spell at all. Its not going to take 1/4th of your life like most other single mage spells will do. The return on the Q is easy to dodge. Whats the problem here?
Some other Mid Max Q's Orianna - 180 base 50% AP Viegar - 260 base 60% AP, AND gains AP Vlad - 230 base 60% AP AND gains health Xerath - 240 base 75% AP AND tons of range Ahri - 140 base 35% AP/return 280 base 70% AP TRUE damage, and much faster Aniva - 180 base 50% AP AND stuns Vel - 240 base 60% AP Liss - 190 base 65% AP and also a slow LeBlanc - 155 base 40% AP, and repeat is another spell hits while they are marked
got tired of looking up champs, but everyone I looked up has better base damages ans better AP ratio's. Yes he gets a total 80% if they get hit by the return, but the return is slow and easy to dodge unless you aret trying, or enemy ekko pulls off some reall nice positioning, in which case you deserve t get hit by it.
It has a slowing feild which gives it good ultility, I think its a fair compensation for the lower then averages.
You can outplay this skill with a little effort. Q is fine.
W - The passive. 5% + 1.81% AP per 100 AP of enemies missing health to enemies below 30%. 5% alone isnt that much. 500 AP gives you another 9%, making it 15% at 500 AP. You can raise this is you build Glass Cannon, but you are going to be squishy as a result, and easier to kill, making getting into a fight to get a low health target a good chance of death for you, even with our other skills. If an assasin catches a low health person alone somewhere, they will have a good chance at assasinating them, which is his job. Passive can be strong late if you get like 800 AP and get a 19% missing health AA, but by then they are already fed or its a long game, which means everyone should be there, or you are just losing badly. I dont see any reasonable issue with the passive.
The Skill. When Ekko uses this skill, he picks a location and fires. It takes 3 seconds, which is a long time in this fast paced game, before the bubble drops. The stun on it is a solid 2 .25 seconds, but for how hard it is to land its very reasonable.
It also gives Ekko a sheild, which at max gives 330 + 80% AP sheild. I think the AP ratio is a LITTLE high, but only a little. He really needs this sheild though to have a chance at staying alive. Maybe a little highly tuned, but considering he has to go to wherever his W lands, which is often near enemies, this puts him in danger. Cut the ratio too much and you make it useless.
Other Max Stuns
Morgana - 3 seconds plus 300 + 90% AP damage Exact opposite of Ekko's basically
Twisted Fate - 2 seconds plus 45 + 100% AD/50% AP. This one is weak but it is targeted, so easy as hell to land
Lux - Can hit up to two targets, for 2 seconds and 1 second, and for 260 + 70% AP and 130 + 35% AP.
LeBlanc - You have to stay Tethered for 1.5 seconds, it slows them to help this, but does 140 + 50% AP damage. Then stuns for 1.5 seconds and does 280 + 100% AP damage. Pretty brutal.
Viegar - After .5 seconds stuns for up to 2 seconds, and even if you miss the stun you have them trapped in a lil box.
Based on other stunning champs, and these are only a few, most of them all happen faster then Ekko's(considering the massive 3 second delay AND needing the enemy in the right spot) and most of them all do pretty solid damage, which is a fair balance for ekko getting a sheild from his.
His W seems reasonable to me.
E - Dash with a blink attack if enemies are near. At max this does 170 + 20% AP damage. Again not a really high powered skill. Looking at examples from Q, we see this is still lower then most other mage skills. It balances this by giving the extra dash/blink. This also puts you right up on the enemy, which puts you in danger, as opposed to other mage's being able to use most these skills safely from range.
Some other similar abilities
Shen - His dash does 190 + 50% AP, more then Ekko's
Gnar - His hop does 180 + 6% max health. I think lower then Ekko's when you vs the hp vs ap scalings, but take into account the safer escape Gnar gets in mini, and when he is Mega he will wreck you after he hits you while being much tankier.
Fiora - 140 + 60% AD, and she can cast it a second time. Again a higher damage output then Ekko's
Fizz - 70 + 30% AP and 100% AD, and applies both oh hit and spell effects.
LeBlanc - 245 + 60% AP, and can be cast again to escape. Safer and stronger.
Just a few I found. And all on lower cooldowns. His skill can be used for a pretty small escape, or as an engage, but then he is in the enemies face. I dont see anything wrong here personally.
R - His R is tricky, because it does damage where the shadow clone is. This requires either very good pre positioning, ot living long enough in a fight to let your clone catch up. While this skill hits hard, you know exactly where it can hit. If you are worried about it bursting you, STAY AWAY FROM THE SHADOW. Even if Ekko is on you, even if he stuns you, you have time to get away from the shadow since it is always 4 seconds behind him. Know where the shadow is and adjust/move accordingly. With the utility Ekko has, even if he isnt fed, if he gets in a teamfight, which alot of his kit requires him to do, focus him down. You have 4 seconds before he can hurt you, forcing him to at worst blow his ult on an escape. People say its op, but they just dont even watch the shadow while a fight is going on, they dont even aknowledge it untill it blows up. Thats not OP, thats just poor battlefield awareness in my opinion.
Other Ults.
Akali - 250 + 50% AP, times the three stacks she gets, thats 750 damage and 150%AP. Seems stronger to me, and a bettter chase tool Katrina - If you stay close to her for 2 seconds, which is harder to escape then a visable 4 second incoming shadow, she does 750 + 250% AP/ 375% bonus AD damage. Harder to dodge, easier to land, and hurts way more. Fizz - Arguable easier to land, slows the enemy, increases fizz's damage against target by 20%, and does 450 + 100% AP. Granted a LITTLE less then ekko, and only single target, but much more burst with the added 20% and slow, and easier to land by far. Lux - 500 + 75% AP. Same base damage, a little less AP%, but much easier to hit and much much more range.
Basically just pointing out that damage wise his ult isnt that severe compared to alot of other ults. It just is more of a shock to people because no one pays attention to the shadow, which is just bad play.
Also there is the heal, which is 200 + 30%(+ 3.33%) of damage taken. and the jump back 4 seconds. His ult has some function to it for sure. But in my opinion, it seems reasonable/outplayable. If he ults he is likely never going to get far away. He is squishy, and it heals a percent of damage he's taken. If he has to ult to run away, things are going bad. he doesnt rewind far and he doesnt gain a huge amount of life back. He's still in the danger zone. And if he was in that fight for 4 seconds and not dealt with, he wasnt played against properly.
CONCLUSION-TL/DR Ekko has a complicated kit. To use it right, you either have to be good, or the enemy has to be bad or unfamiliar with the champ. Right now people dont know him well. Once people do, then the real good players will use him well, and less and less people will get lucky and snowball a game (except lower elo's where snowbally champs live because, well, low skill levels)
He is a squishy champ by nature, but has to get in our face to hurt you. His scalings are all normal for mage's, which in essence he is. His HP per level is on par with and lower then most champs i checked. His armor per level is lower then most, though his MR max is a tad bit higher then alot of others. But his survivability isnt anywhere he cant be deleted if a team plays against him well. Considering that unlike a vast chunk of other mages/ assasiny types he has to get in and stay in your face to unload all his damage, his heal/sheild, and slight mobility all seem pretty reasonable.
Stop complaining because you didnt know enough to beat a champ, and instead learn to play better against him. This is all my opinion anyways.
