Im new to Vlad, wanted to play him one last time before free week was over, and went up vs a morde. He out damaged me level 1, outranged me with his e, so he had early control of the lane. After his first back (Revolver) his e hitting 2 minions filled his shield, more than my q poke. So I couldnt touch him, he outranged and damaged me. How am I supposed to play at all in this lane?
Tsugaga2 votesYou don't always have to kill your lane opponent or even out damage him, the main goal in lane is to get as much CS as you possibly can, getting kills is just a bonus. Just last hit minions with auto attacks and Q, Morde will naturally push the lane. Morde will probably be under your tower trying to hit you with his E, this is when you ask for a gank, Morde is a very easy kill if your jungler/mid ganks top and either of them have some CC. Morde is very weak to ganks early game, especially if you have disabling CC.
As far as I know, Vlad is supposed to win this matchup, he has sustain and lower cooldowns than Morde. Don't fight in your minion waves because he'll just get a bigger shield.
Vesarixx2 votesOne tip is not to stand behind the minions in this match up, that way he needs to choose between using his E on the minions or on you, if he uses it on the minions you don't take damage and if he uses it on you then his shield strength is reduced since he only hit one target, so it's easier to trade back. His shield strength isn't affected by spellvamp, it actually just depends entirely on how much damage he dealt. He also needs to get into melee range early to last hit, so you can harass him with autos, and since he tends to push the wave you could ask for a gank. Getting an early Abyssal(before hextech) can help vs him since he deals magic damage and Vlad gets a lot out of the item. I take magic pen reds, health yellows, 6 flat CDR and 3 scaling CDR blues and spellvamp quints on Vlad with 9/21/0 masteries when I play him top, but another Vlad player I know takes MR per level blues, armor yellows, M.pen reds with spellvamp quints and runs 21/9/0 masteries, so you might want to also try some alternate setups even changing it up depending on the match up.
Malicious Metal1 votesAs a Morde main I know exactly how to deal in this kind of situation. Since patch 5.4 Morde's hp/5 is basically 0 so try to harass him whenever his shield is down. He's Melee so abuse your range to farm and try to aa him early game as you'll out-sustain him with your q and him using hp as a resource. Also call for ganks. He's an easy target if you can hard cc him but if you're low prepare to give him a double as a quick ignite-ult-e can kill anyone below 50% health. Also get a Spirit Visage early as it reduces his damage and boosts your sustain with CDR and its unique passive.
